Chapter 91
**Milo**
Something is wrong. I felt it and glanced at the others finding them just as confused but we are coming to the end of the show. We have no choice but to finish this and figure out what’s going on with Luna after. This isn’t the first time she has overwhelmed us with a roller coaster of emotions. She battles with a lot that she still doesn’t talk to us about and we understand she needs her space. Unfortunately, we have to endure her struggling emotions while feeling powerless to help her.
This though…it’s more. Too much. Fear, pain, determination, anger. We have also learned that something as simple as watching an intense movie or reading an emotional book can set her off like this. That is the only reason we didn’t jump off stage the minute we felt the shifts in her. A decision I will regret for the rest of my life.
As soon as we close the show we rush down the steps and go searching for Luna. I spot Annie standing not far away and head straight for her. She smiles brightly at us.
“You guys were amazing up there!” She says cheerfully adding a little clap as well.
“Thanks. Where’s Luna? Have you seen her?” I ask not sparing her a longer glance.
“Oh! She had a little headache or something. I think she’s in the medic tent. I have the VIPs all lined up and ready for you!” She says and we all look at her like she has just grown a second head.
Is she serious?
“We don’t give a damn about VIPs! We need to see Luna.” Declan growls out pushing past her and heading toward the medic tent.
We rush to keep up with him and unfortunately, Annie continues to run her mouth.
“I told you she’s fine. It’s just a headache, and I’m sure she doesn’t want you guys making a big fuss over her, or she would have asked for you to go see her.” She adds and I cut her a sharp look.
Her mouth snaps closed and she lowers her eyes.
When we get to the medic tent we find a few people sipping on juice and being checked out for dehydration I’m guessing.
No Luna.
“Where is she?” Declan asks whirling around to face Annie.
She takes a step back and fidgets nervously. “I-I don’t know. She was here…”
I narrow my eyes at her. There is something she ain’t saying. Her eyes are glancing around nervously but she doesn’t seem surprised that Luna isn’t here.
“Annie. Where did you last see her?” Rowan asks firmly.
Annie turns wide pitifully sad eyes up at him.
“I swear she was here. I couldn’t stay with her because I had to get the VIP tent ready. She was here.” Her words seem true but there is still something off about how she’s acting.
“Call the police now!!” Someone yells outside of the tent getting our attention.
“What the hell is going on?” Rowan asks turning and heading for the doorway of the tent.
We follow and see people looking around confused and whispering. Some are all heading in one direction and I can hear shouting in the distance. It’s coming from the area where all the cars are parked.
The sound of police sirens and ambulances in the distance has us moving in the direction of the crowd. Whatever is happening must be big because no one seems to notice us. A security guard starts shouting instructions to the crowds asking them to keep away and allow space for medical and police vehicles to get through. As soon as the ambulance stops there is a flurry of motion that is blocked as more help arrives.
“Excuse me. What happened?” Bennett asks when we reach the guard.
He recognizes us right away. “Sorry sir, but we have a hell of a situation here. There was an accident. A van crashed into another vehicle and inside we found several unconscious girls. One of the men got away but it seems like there was a struggle and one of the girls was shot. She also got a shot in of her own. The guy didn’t make it.”
I am stunned and my worry for Luna grows. She must have gone back to camp and had no idea everything that was going on.
“How is the girl who was shot?” Rowan asks.
The guard leans a little to see around the ambulance.
“She lost a lot of blood but she was still conscious when we found her. There…they’re loading her in the ambulance now.” He points to several paramedics rushing a gurney into the back of the ambulance.
There is a lot of commotion and the number of them makes it hard to get a good look at the girl. Until one climbs into the ambulance to help pull it in and I spot the honey golden hair.
“Luna!” I shout pushing forward immediately.
I don’t know if the others are following but I rush through the police and try to reach her.
“Sir! You can’t come through here.” One of the officers says pushing me back.
I feel the others crowding behind me.
“That’s our Omega!” Rowan yells pointing to the ambulance just as the double doors are shut.
The paramedics take off immediately leaving us behind.
“Okay. Okay. They are heading for the nearest hospital which is ten minutes away.” He tells us and we thank him and rush through the crowd.
Before we get too far I stop by the security guard from before.
“I need the keys to your SUV,” I tell him.
“What?” He asks a little confused.
“Our Omega is on her way to the hospital and could die. Give me the damn keys.” I growl and he fumbled to hand them over. “Thank you.”
I run back to join the others and we head toward the row of SUVs the security team uses.
“How did they not recognize one of the girls as Luna? The security team was supposed to be briefed about her.” Rowan asks as soon as we are loaded in the car.
Declan snatch the keys from me before I could object and Meath drove off before we could all climb into the car. The drive is tense and silent, all of us trapped in the fears of our own thoughts.
What if we get to the hospital and it’s too late? How badly was she hurt?
The thought of losing Luna forever hits me so hard that I feel sick to my stomach. I try to reach through our bond and feel her but…there is only silence.
“I can’t feel her…” Kai says quietly.
“She’s fine. She has been through so much and has made it through.” Bennett says with fake confidence.
He wanted to believe she was alive as much as the rest of us but doubt lies beneath his words.
“She won’t leave us!” Declan yells and we fall silent again.
If he loses Luna, he will fall into the darkness for good. That dark hole of grief will swallow him for good and we will lose our brother along with our mate.
She has taken the last parts of us that are keeping us tethered to this life. I can not live without her…and I don’t want to.
When we finally arrive at the hospital we rush inside and we all speak at once demanding to see Luna.
“Excuse me. I need you all to calm down.” The nurse at the front desk says. “Now who are you looking for?”
“An Omega named Luna was brought here. She was shot.” Bennett says.
“Okay give me a moment to find her information.” We stand tensely silent and wait as she types a few things into her computer. “I see that she was brought in not long ago and was rushed into surgery. That’s where she is now but there have been no updates on her condition yet. You will have to wait here until the doctor can update you.”
We agree reluctantly and drop into a few free seats in the waiting room.
“Please fight…I need you…” I chant over and over in my head like a prayer.
“Excuse me. Are you the pack of the victim?” A man asks and I look up to see several cops have appeared.
“The one in surgery? Yes.” I tell him.
“Good. We wanted to let you know that the other women inside the van owe her their life. We were able to catch the second man and he told us about what they had been planning to do with the Omegas. If your Omega had not fought so hard, we may never have found the others.” One of the officers says.
“Others? How many others?” Rowan asks.
The officer turns his attention to our leader.
“All of them. The man confessed to everything. Even the location where they were meant to deliver the women. Our people just raided the location and found all the missing Omegas. He even told us who the inside person was working at the event tonight.” He goes on but I cut him off.
“Annie,” I say and he looks to me.
“Yes. A miss Annie Banks was responsible for assisting in targeting the vulnerable Omegas.” He agrees.
The guys curse to themselves. “All this time…we should have known. There has always been something off with her.” Kai says.
“Sometimes it’s hard to see clearly when things are right in front of you. Often you don’t notice it until it’s too late. Thankfully, this time we were lucky. Your Omega saved a lot of lives today.” He nods to us and leaves us to take in his words.
“Our sweet shy girl just saved all those women,” Kai says with a small smile. “She’s amazing.”
No one says another word after that. Time drags on as we wait for news about Luna. It could not have been more than a few hours, but the not knowing made it feel painfully long.
“The Luna pack?” Someone calls out.
My head snaps up to see a doctor standing just outside a pair of double doors. Luna pack? I kind of like the sound of that.
“That’s us,” Rowan says jumping to his feet.
“Hello. So we just finished surgery and there was extensive bleeding but thankfully no severe damage. She will be groggy for a few hours but if all goes well she should recover fine. The baby was not hurt either, so that is another blessing. She was very lucky.” He gives us a reassuring smile and turns back.
Baby?
“Did he just say, baby?” Kai asks and all I can do is nod.
“Holy shit,” Rowan says breathlessly and stumbles back into his seat.
He took the words right out of my mouth...
