Chapter 13
It's been a week now, I had convinced Brooklyn to go to the hospital the day I found her vomiting blood up.
Thankfully the baby was fine, and is indeed a girl, but they'd found nothing wrong. Told her to make an appointment with her OBGYN for a follow up and to return if it happened again.
Today she was feeling sick so she hadn't left her bedroom all day. Her sister would go in to check on her and come out with so many thoughts and worries it had me wanting to go in there.
She had her door left open so that we could hear her if she called out. I was surprised to learn that her room and her sisters were soundproof.
"Scott?" My head shot up from my phone the moment my name left her. I got up from the chair her brother-in-law gave me so I wouldn't be standing the whole time.
I opened her door more and went over to her, sitting on the bed she rolled over to look at me. Her beautiful hair was a mess from her laying in bed all day, but I think it made her look adorable.
I also noticed over this past week that me being able to hear her thoughts was starting to dwindle with each passing day. I was curious if it was me being a Lycan or her being part witch and she had developed an immunity to my power.
"Can you help me?" She asked, her voice was a little scratchy but that was probably due to the coughing she's been doing since yesterday.
I gave her a nod and grabbed her hand. "What do you need me to do?" I asked her softly..
"I made a doctor's appointment this morning. I have to get changed and look somewhat presentable.." She gave me a tired smile.
I helped her sit up, "I can make you something to eat before we leave, it would help you from feeling to weak and tired." I said, she hasn't ate anything since dinner last night and it was almost 2 in the afternoon.
Getting to her feet I seen her nod her head. "I think you might be right, I just don't want to end up throwing it all up in your truck."
"I don't care about that. You need your strength and some energy, I think some coffee might help too." She laughed at me as she entered her closet. "Thank you, I'd appreciate some caffeine right about now." She replied.
For the next 15 minutes I helped her change into fresh clothing, since I'd already seen her naked she was comfortable letting me help her change. I even brushed her hair for her and braided it so it wasn't in her face when we were done.
She didn't want to apply any makup so we began our walk down the stairs.
We walked into the kitchen and she sat at a bar stool while I prepared a sandwich, even had the coffee pot going as I made her food for her.
"Hey Brooke, feeling any better?" I turned to see her sister walking in with her son perched on her hip.
"Not really, I made an appointment even though I'm sure it's just a cold." She replied with a groan as she lifted her head up from the counter. I set the plate of food down in front of her.
Brooklyn groaned again when the doorbell went off. "Turn the volume down a bit." She whispered to her sister rubbing her temples.
I placed her drink in a cup we could walk out with, then added some sugar and creamer to it for her. Being around her I'd noticed how she made her coffee, although she never mesured her creamer, but based it on how light her drink got.
"Bailey?" Evan called from the door. I heard her sigh before walking out. "Thank you!" Brooklyn told me when I gave her the cup.
She grabbed the sandwich from the plate and got up. When we left the kitchen I could hear Bailey yelling at somebody to leave her property.
I could hear who it was and normally that wouldn't be an issue, but in the past week Brooklyn has begun to show alot more. There was no hiding it from him if we walked outside.
"I also beed to stop by the bank when we are finished at the doctor. I have to sign some paperwork to allow them to transfer the money into my new account, so that I can put a deposit down on the house." I heard Brooklyn tell me, could she not hear him?
I placed both my hands on her shoulders stopping her before she reached the door handle. "It's cold outside, here..." Shrugging off my jacket I slipped it onto her then stepped in front and zipped it up.
"Thank you.." I wanted to smile at how she brought it closer to her so she could take in my scent on it, but i held off.
We had a jealous ex outside.
I opened the door, the cold air wafting at my skin but it wasn't so bad for me. Lycans ran warmer than a normal wolf did.
"You don't leave, I'll be forced to contact my brothers to have them remove you. Now my wife and I have asked you to leave." Evan growled in in Ryan's face.
Ryan went to turn and leave when he noticed both me and Brooklyn walking out of the house. A glint sparkled in his eyes when he noticed her. "Brookie!" He smirked coming closer.
She didn't even give him a glance and that's when I realized she knew he was outside the whole time.
I tucked her behind me when he stepped in front of us. He wasn't crazy enough to try something with me here, atleast I don't think he is.
He growled at me but quickly composed himself. "I need to talk to MY wife." He plastered a fake smile on his face. "Yeah not gonna happen pup. We have somewhere to be." I told him coldly.
"Scott, it's fine. I have time." Brooklyn said so I sighed deeply and moved aside.
His smirk widened. "Nice of you to finally agree to speak to me, since you've been keeping your phone off."
"I haven't been keeping my phone off, I changed my number." The nonchalant tone she used made me proud of how unbothered she was acting in front of him.
"You do know I can easily get it. We share the same account." An unladylike snort left her. "I'm surprised you haven't noticed."
He looked at her with confusion written all over his face. "Notice what?"
"That I'm no longer on that plan anymore. Did you really expect me to stay apart of anything with you?" He growled. She was right about one thing, he didn't like how headstrong she is.
"I came here to talk to you about the divorce papers." He rolled his eyes."I wanted to tell you I've signed them, and we won't have to go to court. You contact your lawyer and I'll contact mine so we can settle this right." He told her a little softer than he intended to.
"What's the catch, Ryan?"
He grumbled something nobody could hear. "I just have 1 request?" He looked up catching her eyes, my lycan didn't like how he was looking at her and I had to say I didn't either.
"What is it?" Brooklyn asked him her gruff exterior slipping a little.
"My dad, he don't know why we are getting a divorce, he has also requested to come and visit the pack. I think he wants to speak to you." Now I was seeing a side of him I hadn't seen yet. Vulnerability. "Can you not tell him about the affairs I've had. He won't be happy with me if he finds out."
"Why is it any of your dad's business why I have asked for a divorce?" She asked him getting annoyed now.
Ryan sighed and closed his eyes. "Because he told me I shouldn't ruin what I have with my mate no matter how horny I get. My mother died because of my dad cheating on her, he's not been the same since." Her eyes widened a little. "I don't care what you tell him, you can tell him I hit you or something but don't tell him the real reason." Where did the man go from last week? He threatened to kill her and everyone she loved because she slept with another.
"Ryan, I can't tell him you done something you didn't do. Especially something like that." Her head shook after saying that, no matter how much he'd hurt her she still cared for him.
He took a deep breath and stiffened a little, his eyes flew open. "Why do you smell different?" He took another deep breath then looked down at her stomach.
She stepped behind me again, he sqared his shoulders as he prepared for some kind of fight. "Are you pregnant?" He asked harshly. "How come you never told me? I had a right to know, Brooklyn."
"A right to know?" Evan snarled at him from where he stood, Bailey had went inside with Tyler but Evan wanted to make sure nothing happened. He was a good brother-in-law. "Do you have any idea how close she was to loosing that baby because of you and the people you cheated on her with?" He was now standing next to me.
"What are you talking about?" Evan laughed bitterly at him. "The pain a mated person feels when their partner, their other half sleeps with somebody who isn't them. It fucking hurts, Ryan. She only found out because she started bleeding and I had to rush her to the hospital because I thought you had finally done enough to kill her."
The venom he used with his explanation was enough to make Ryan flinch and take a step back. "I'm sorry." He whispered avoiding Evan's gaze. "Brooke, I'm sorry, I didn't know." He looked down at his feet, I knew he was sincere in his apology because I could hear his wolf whimpering in his head.
"Will I be allowed in the child's life?" He asked. I felt Brooklyn's head fall on my back, she already told her brothers she had to tell him but she never said if he'd be in the baby's life.
"Only if you don't try to keep her from me when you have her." Brooklyn said, her voice sounded strained and if I could hear her tboughts I'd know why that was, but I couldn't.
"A girl? It's a girl?" He said a glimmer of happiness shone in his eyes. He went to say something else when Brooklyn started coughing, worry was overtaking his features now. "Is she alright?" He tried to go around me to check on her when Evan growled at him forcing him to stop.
"She's sick. She isn't your concern anymore, you can leave now." He told him roughly.
"Evan, she's preganat. With my child, of course I'm concerned about her health. I'd like to know how she's doing!" Ryan raised his hands up in defense. "I'd never jeopardize her life if it caused the baby harm, if I'd known sooner I would have stopped hurting her."
I scanned his features for any malice or ill intentions. "She has an appointment we have to get to." I said reaching behind me to grab her hand, the second I found hers I took it and started walking towards my truck.
"We have to talk to our lawyers about this too, Brooke." He called after her.
She stopped and faced him. "I've already told my lawyer. He should contact you soon." She turned back and we continued going to my truck.
I opened her door when we got there, she gave me a smile and got in. I walked around and hopped in the driver's seat.
I glanced over at her to see her lean her head on the window. I took the cup from her and placed it in the cup holder on center console.
"I'm tired.." She mumbled her eyes closed. As I got onto the highway I noticed she hadn't touched her food. "Your blood sugar is probably low because you haven't ate since dinner last night."
I took a quick glance at her again, "Eat your sandwich amoureux. It will give you a boost of energy." I encouraged her.
I heard a sigh leave her but she did begin to eat. "Where is your appointment located at."
"It's a family doctor, it's 6 miles past the hospital. It's a werewolves only practice." She said. "It's called New Haven!" I nodded and when I stopped at a red light I typed it into google maps.
"How are you feeling now that Ryan has signed the paperwork? And that he knows about the baby?" I asked her.
"I don't know...I knew he would find out eventually, I just didn't think he would smell it on me. He never noticed before." Brooklyn said taking another bite of her food.
"It must be a weight off your shoulders." I looked over at her and she nodded her head. "It is." She looked out the window. "I just thought we would raise her together, give her the life I had growing up, with parents who were together."
I reached over with my other hand and squeezed her leg. "I'm sure you and Ryan will think of ways to be involved in her life together. He said his mom died right?" She nodded. "I have a feeling he wouldn't want his child to grow up without you in her life."
"I hope so..." She whispered and looked back out the window.
