Chapter 20
It's been nearly a week now, and Brooklyn has been in her room since she's been home. Scott has tried to talk to her but she has been more closed off than she normally would have been.
She had asked Evan to remove the baby items that she had bought from her room and donate them, sell them or trash them, she really didn't care.
That was one of the only times he had seen her. Bailey brings her food up to her but comes out with the meal she gave her previous to that one everytime.
She even tried bringing Tyler up to her one day but she asked her to take him out of the room. "He misses you, Brooke!" She told her but she still ended up leaving the room with him.
I opened the front door after the doorbell went off. One of her dads were here, Noah. "Hello sir." I moved aside to let him in the house.
"Hi, Scott! How are you?" I gave him a subtle frown. "I'm okay, how about you?"
He shrugged. "I'm good, I just came by to check on, Brooklyn!" I nodded and followed him up the stairs. "How's she been since she's been home?"
"As good as can be." I answered him then took my spot in the seat by her door. He walked in leaving the door slightly open.
"Hey baby girl..." He cooed. I heard a sniffle and knew it was her. "Hi daddy."
It was quiet for a while until he spoke again. "You've lost weight, Brooke." He told her softly, I have only seen her a couple times since coming home, she always wore baggy clothing so none of us noticed.
"I have no reason to live anymore." She flatly told him, even her voice sounded void of any emotion, but I knew she was hurting like hell because Ezekiel said that he was always consoling Zena.
"You have-" he was cut off "Nothing. I lost the person I loved more than he loved me and I lost my daughter in the same night. I have nothing now." He let out a loud sigh. "They should have let him kill me."
"Don't you ever say that again!" He growled at her. "You have a reason to live you just won't see it through."
"Why not?" She yelled at him. "I have been through hell for the past 3 years and now because I'm all depressed and upset you want to suddenly check in on me? Nobody checked on me when I was living with Ryan, except for Levi and Zack."
He didn't say anything to her, but I could hear what he was thinking. "You never talked to us, Brooklyn Jeanne!" He spat back at her, but it wasn't as harsh as her tone was. "You want to blame us for not being there for you, but you never talked to us about your relationship, or lack there of with, Ryan." He told her, trying his hardest to see if she understood their point behind everything. "Your mom and Wyatt tried to talk to you about his family and what they were like but you chose to ignore them."
"Because I loved him...I still love him!" She whispered, her voice cracking.
"Hey, I'm not an expert on what it means to have your heart broken. But I do know how it feels when a mate dies so I can understand why you're still hurt." He told her softer.
I looked into the crack into the room and seen tears falling down her face, goddess she had lost weight and her face was pale because she has refused to eat. "I don't know what to do anymore daddy."
He brought her in and hugged her. "Come home, me, your mom and dad can help you through this." She buried her face in his chest and started sobbing.
"We will let Scott come too." He tried to use me to get her to come home with him. "Do I still need him to protect me?" She asked him quietly.
"Well, no. But we were hoping you would try and give this mate thing a try." She lifted her head and he smoothed her hair down with one hand and wiped the tears off her face with the other. "He seems to really care about you honey!" She looked over at the door, but I moved back hoping she didn't see me.
I heard her let out a shaky breath. "Give me a couple days so I can get my things packed." She told him quietly.
Suddenly her brothers, sister, and brother-in-law, plus her mother and other dad popped up in the hallway scaring the living lycan out of me.
"I was hoping you'd agree. So I brought some help." They all walked into her bedroom, a few seconds later a few other people knocked on the front door. "Scott can you get that?" Bailey asked me.
I got up and quickly made my way down the stairs and over to the front door. When I opened it I seen 3 of her cousins plus a few others I hadn't met yet.
"Hey Mr. Lycan!" Caleb teased me with a wink. "As you know, I'm Caleb, this is my sister Danielle, and cousins Jon, Samantha, Emily, Alana.." He leaned in "She goes by 'Lana' though." He then pointed to the smallest of them. "And this is uncle Jackson's son Donnie." He ruffled his hair.
I gave them all a nod and moved aside so they could enter, they all walked up the stairs and up to--I'm asumming Brooklyn's bedroom.
I went to close the door but someone else stopped it from closing. I heaved a heavy sigh and opened it again. "Yes, may I help you?"
"I'm here to talk to my daughter-in-law!" He said, his voice was gruff and hard with a hint of anger in it.
"There's alot of females here today, I need a name?" I asked him. "Brooke. I came here to see Brooke." I put up a finger and closed the door and ran up the stairs.
When I got to her room they were all moveing things into boxes, but from the looks of it wouldn't let Brroklyn help them. "Umm, there's a man at the door asking for Brooklyn, I think he's Ryan's father." And with that they all stopped moving.
Her dad pushed past everybody, his brown eyes narrowed as he stared at me. "What does he want with my daughter?" I shrugged. "He didn't say, but he does seem angry."
"You will sit with her durring this so called talk. Understood?" I nodded my head, I planned on being close by just incase he tried to do what Ryan did when he was alone with her.
Bailey grabbed her sisters hands and pulled her up from the bed and walked her over to me. "While you are talking, I'm gonna make you something to eat. I want you to eat it this time okay?" She told her when she got to me.
"But I'm not hungry." Bailey glared at her. "I don't care, you are weak because of you not eating." Bailey then gently nudged her into me and I smirked at her.
I placed my hands on Brooklyn's shoulders as the 3 of us walked out of the room and down the stairs, Biley beat us though. I took Brooklyn to the living room and she sat down in a chair while I went and opened the door.
"She's ready, follow me." He stepped in after me and closed the door behind him. We went into the living room where Brooklyn was and her eyes met mine then his.
"Hey sweetheart.. how have you been?" He asked her and sat on the couch, I stood by the entrance with my arms crossed.
"Fine I guess." She looked away from him picking at the sleeves of her shirt. "And you?" She asked him still not looking at him.
"My son was murdered, how do you think I feel?" Brooklyn looked down at her hands while nodding her head. "I know you are upset, but-"
"But what? He was killed because of you!" He pointed a long finger at her, his anger beginning to surface. "I want to know why!"
"Excuse me?" She looked up at him her tone taking a turn.
"Why was he killed? What did you do for him to be murdered the way he was." He stood up crossing his arms.
"Excuse me I'm sorry, did you just blame her?" I asked him. He laughed a little dryly. "The wife is always the one to blame when a husband ends up dead."
I heard a growl, I turned just as Bailey came storming in the room. "Do you want to say that again?" She walked right up to him and stood in front of her sister.
"My son told me what she has done, how she had been cheating on him the whole time they were together!" He seethed.
Brooklyn got up from her seat and moved her sister aside. "Is that what he told you? That I was the one sleeping with other people?"
I seen his eyes widen, I moved closer to them and when I seen it I looked over at Bailey, I linked her parents for some assistance here.
"2 months after our marrage, he began cheating on me. At first it was just the one time, then it happened again and again and again. Then he locked me in the basement of our house when I asked him who they were and if he'd stop." She spat at him. "If it wasn't for my brother, I probably would have died down there." The man in front of her dropped to his knees.
I leaned over to Bailey and asked. What is she doing?" She looked at me her eyes wide. "I have no clue."
The first one of her parents in the room was her father but he dropped to his knees. "Bailey stop it." He gritted. "Dad it isn't me." His hazel eyes flickered to Brooklyn. "Clara hurry!"
"Don't you get it? He cut my soul more times than he ever kissed it, and I stayed." She told him. "He broke my spirit more times than he ever lifted it, and I stayed." Her eyes began to water.
Brooklyn took a deep breath just before her other 2 parents came in. Her mother pulled her father out of the living room and he took a refreshing breath, then pointed at Brooklyn. "I'm fine, go help her because I haven't felt that kind of aura since you were possessed by Amara."
Her mother came over and tired to take her away, but she removed her hand from her grasp. "Ryan, took more good from me than he ever gave back to me, and he stood there and watched me ball my eyes out more than he ever comforted me, and I stayed." I seen a tear fall from her eye.
"He used my weakness against me, threw my past back in my face and I still stayed." More tears fell from her eyes. "He watered my insecurities with pleasure, helping them grow stronger and shushed my voice and my expressions, so that I could remain in his eyes, smaller than him."
She closed her eyes, her mom put a hand over her heart as she listened to her daughter express how Ryan treated her."Time after time I stayed and that? Boosted his ego." Her eyes flashed from those beautiful brown to white for a second.
"It hurts, please stop." She growled at him and turned around to walk out but stoped when she seen everyone standing in the doorway.
I grabbed her from behind and she tried to fight me off of her but I held her tightly. "Bailey take me to my house." Her sister touched my shoulder and teleported us out and into my little home, then left in the same second.
