Chapter 52

Caleb's POV

After helping her into the tree house and getting in myself, we sat in silence for a good two hours or longer. I was used to doing this with my own mate, she came from an abusive family.

Her step-mother liked to hit her all the time when she was little. Her dad didn't know. If we hadn't taken that trip to England four years ago then she would still be living in that abusive house with her.

She was only seventeen when I found her, and her being the daughter of an Alpha he was elated to learn I was the son of one.

When I first saw the bruises I thought that her father was the one that was hitting her, it wasn't until I attacked him after she was hospitalized that he learned the truth. His second wife, Amiee'$ step-mother hated that she was his. She was jealous of the relationship the duo had, still has.

"I hate him!" My thoughts quickly came back to the present at the sound of Brooklyn's voice.

My wolf whined, he didn't like it when women in our family or somebody we cared about was hurting. His whine escaped my lips and I didn't try to stop it, I liked to show off my bravado in front of my cousins but deep down only Danielle knew how sensitive I can be. Dad said that those emotions would make me a great Alpha.

"I don't think I've ever hated somebody so much before." I heard her sigh. "He probably seen how happy I was from hell and was like 'nope can't have that, I have to fuck that up;' and that he did."

I chuckled lightly at her. Even sad she still could find a way to fit in a joke. Though I think it was more for me than it was for her.

"I'm hungry are you hungry?" I asked her and she laughed a little and it made me grin hearing it. I stood up and held my hand out for her. "Come on, let's go eat some dinner. It should be ready."

"He's still here," she glanced at the house. "I'm not going inside, Caleb." She murmured. I looked back at the house and that's when I knew she wasn't staying in the packhouse with people she didn't know.

"Follow me then! I want to show you something!" I moved to the ladder and began my way down. I heard her sigh but she did eventually get up.

I wrapped my arm around her shoulder once she was on the ground and led her away from the house. There was a small cabin not far away from our home and a few hundred meters from the packhouse. I knew if she was there I could allow Scott to stay in the packhouse and still be nearby if necessary.

"I know you don't want him around, you don't have to talk about it either. Just know I am here to listen whenever you are ready." I whispered and rubbed her arm soothingly.

"I know, I'm just," She stopped and I did to turning to face her. "I'm tired, Caleb! So tired!"

"What do you need then?" I asked her and we started walking again. We weren't far from the cabin, I could already make out the garden Amiee made.

"You're doing it!" She looked up at me and I saw a smile grace her face. She looked ahead of her again and her smile grew some.

I let her go and she walked further towards the cabin. "What's this?" She asked turning to me.

"A cabin silly!" She rolled her eyes and I chuckled.

I dug in my pockets and pulled out my keys and took the spare off the key ring to the door. "I don't want you in the packhouse, the peoplestaying there are rogue and we are just letting them pass. Although you would be close by us and them." I said going over to where she was. I'd rather her in the house with us, but we had no room.

I held out the key, she went to grab it but I held it back and she raised a brow at me. "But Scott will be!" I told her and she groaned.

"No!" She said shaking her head.

"Why not?" I asked her softly. Mates aren't supposed to be avoiding one another the way she was trying to do with Scott. She will feel the pull no matter how far they are from each other.

"Because without Zena, I can't get over him abandoning me. I just need some space." She told me and I furrowed my brows.

Uncle Wyatt didn't tell us much when we all heard the news the next day. Danielle and Amiee wanted to go and check on her but Bailey told them that she had isolated herself in her room so no one saw her until week two afterwards.

"Hey!" I put my hands on her shoulders. "What was it you used to tell Amiee whenever she noticed something wrong with you?"

"I'm fine!" She whispered looking away from me. Amiee always told me something was off with Ryan when she first met him. But none of us thought much of it at the time.

"And what would she say?" I asked.

Brooklyn's eyes meet mine before she bit her lip and shook her head. "Brooke, am I gonna have to go get her?" I warned playfully.

"That I would be!" I nodded my head, Amiee always knew what to say. She wasn't hurt the way Brooklyn was but she did know pain.

"And you will be cousin!" I murmured. "As long as you have Scott by your side you will be alright. So allow him to stay close by. I don't want to come by one morning and find you dead because you couldn't handle life anymore."

"I can't do that even if I want to. Not now anyways!" Her hand moved to her belly and she looked down. The steady rhythm of the baby's heartbeat could be heard and I smiled.

"Rainbow baby, she's more like miracle baby if you ask me!" I told her and moved my hand down and coved hers with mine. "Promise me you won't give up. Even after she's born?"

"I can't promise that, Caleb." She whispered and I sighed. "But I'm trying to keep my head up, even if it feels too heavy sometimes."

"That's all I can ask for!" I held up the key to the cabin and she took it from me.

"Can I post a warrior by the cabin?" I asked as we started walking back to the house to get her things.

"Only if it's a female." She said. Our best female warrior though was out on maternity leave and the others weren't as good as she was.

"Sure!" I compromised with her request. We will just let the men know to stay out of sight. And I had no issues with her having female warriors watching her, it's just that the men were stronger and the cabin was close to the border. Thats why dad had the house so close to the packhouse. Just in case of a surprise attack.

Getting back to the house I saw Jordan walking up the front steps. But he saw us coming up the side and came back down.

"Sissy, dad asked me to bring you to their house." He said with a sigh.

"What no." She told him. "I'm staying with uncle Brandon for a little bit."

"Yeah I had a feeling you were gonna say that." Jordan Murmured. His eyes flashed white as I heard him enchant a spell over her.

My wolf Cam growled when he heard what he was doing. "Jordan stop it. I told you I wasn't leaving." She snapped at him, I pulled her behind me and out of his sight. I knew the spell he was doing, I also knew he had to see her to finish it. It was like a command but one that wouldn't hurt her or the baby.

"Caleb I'm only doing what i was told." He snapped at me and Cam growled again.

"Yes I get that, but can't you see she came here to get away from all of you?" I lied a little. But damn they were all treating her like she couldn't do things without being watched like a hawk.

"Scott called,we know why she's here." I'm going to beat his ass. He had no right telling them why she decided to come here.

"Jordan go home." Brooklyn said behind me. His nostrils flared like he was getting angry at me and her.

"No, I am your Alpha! We're going, now." I felt his aura wash over me but it had no effect on me, but he knew that. Cam growled not liking how he was trying to force her to do something she didn't want to do.

Her grip on the back of my shirt tightened as his command hit her. "N-No! Jordan go home. I'm fine!" She whispered.

"No?" He questioned raising a eyebrow. Jordan reached around me and gripped her arm pulling her away from me. "Why can't you just listen for once?" He berated her as he began walking to his vehicle.

"Let me go!" She pushed him off her and I felt this weird electric force in the air. "If dad wants me home he can ask me himself, but right now, I'm not going anywhere with you." She said moving away from him.

"Wanna bet?" I looked up at him. "Because I got permission from the head of our coven to do whatever it took for me to get you in that car with me!"

"Mom?" Brooklyn whispered in disbelief. Even I couldn't believe that aunt Clara was doing this.

Jordan nodded his head. He looked sympathetic over what he's been asked to do now.

"What is it she plans to do to me? I'm not going home bubba? I need space from everybody!"

He ran a hand through his hair. "She wants to activate your powers again. She can handle you being human, that isn't the issue, she wants you to begin training...magically I mean!"

"But, my wolf helped me more with what powers I do have. I have no reason to keep them if I can't use them when I need them." She told him moving to stand by my side. She kept close to me and I knew why. I have defensive magic where Jordan's is a bit of everything.

"That is why I was ordered to bring you back. She wants you to train-"

"No!" She growled at him.

"Did you just??" He shook his head then glared at her. He went to grab her arm again but I stepped in front of her.

"Leave her be!" I warned him, Cam wanted to shift but I held him back.
