Chapter 16
I sat on the couch in the living room as I watched Brooklyn play with her nephew, she was playing hide and go seek with him.
Everytime he went and hid from her he would hide in the easiest places ever but she would still pretend to go and search for him, and when she did find him he laughed his head off.
The little tyke was supposed to be asleep an hour ago but he refused so Brooklyn has been trying to get him as tired as possible for her brother-in-law.
I watched Tyler walk his little chubby self over to the curtain he has hid behind for the fourth time in the past 15 minutes, and when Brooklyn uncovered her eyes when she was done counting her eyes instantly landed on him.
"Now where did little Ty go? Scott, have you seen Tyler?" The little giggle that came from him made Evan chuckle as he played on his phone from the other end of the couch.
"Unfortunately, not. Perhaps he can go invisible now." I told her and she rolled her eyes at me. "Lord I hope he never gains that ability." Evan muttered.
"Well according to mom, my brother's were the talk of the town when they disappeared for 3 hours when they got that power." She giggled looking behind the other couch.
I looked over at Tyler who was looking from behind the curtains, I got up from the couch and placing my finger over my mouth and picked him up and dove behind the couch I was just on with him.
I heard Evan choke on a laugh while Tyler and I got situated in our area. "All good, Evan?" I could hear his thoughts screaming 'no that huge lycan just nose dived the ground with my son' but instead of saying that he went with "Yeah I'm good."
"Where did Scott go?" Brooklyn asked him, she must have just noticed I wasn't there. "Bathroom I think."
"So, since we're alone. Brooke, what do you really think about Mr. Toussaint?" I shook my head at Evan, I didn't need to know how she felt about me. I already knew how she felt about me before I lost the ablity to hear her inner monologues.
"I'm not discussing my feelings with you about him, Evan!" I could feel her eye roll from here as she said that.
He chuckled. "What other sister you wish to gossip about him with that I don't know about?" He teased her. "Besides, I just want to know if he would be a good boyfriend for you or not!"
"Really Evan?" He laughed again. "Oh come on, Brooklyn. I heard you tell Bailey that you slept with him just to get back at Ryan. Good choice by the way." I'm sure her face was red by his comment, and her not speaking told me I was probably right.
I took a glance down at Tyler to see him fast asleep on my chest. Well that was fast, I decided to link Evan. "Your son fell asleep."
"Hey Brooke, you look tired. Go on up and get some sleep, I'll get Tyler. He is behind the couch." A few moments passed before I heard feet moving out of the room, then Evan getting up from his spot and comeing to where I was at.
Once he got him I got up. "Go get her cowboy!" He chuckled at his own joke while walking out. Oh but I did plan on going after her. I grabbed my things and turned off a few lights then went up the steps 2 at a time.
It didn't take me long before I was in front of her bedroom door. I knocked on the door and waited.
It didn't take long for her to open the door, and when she did I had a smirk on my face. "Amoureux, did you forget about what I said earlier today?" I told her as I took a step into the room and she stepped out of the way.
"N-No!" She studdered. My smirk grew some. "You aren't binding me to the bed this time, Scott."
I closed the door then locked it. "I will do whatever you want me to do." I said softly. Brooklyn nodded her head and bit her lip while looking down.
"I don't want to have sex with you." She whispered. "Not tonight atleast." She glanced back up and me and I my lips formed a very small smile.
I haven't smiled since my mother tranported me to the future, but being around her I feel genuinely happy and calm.
I refocused back on my surroundings when I felt her fingertips on my lips. It tingled as she moved her finger along them, my eyes closed as she placed a hand on my cheek letting it rest there.
"You should smile more, you look handsome when you do." She whispered.
I opened my eyes to see her beautiful brown eyes staring at my lips, I couldn't help but give her another small smile, her own face morphed into happiness.
I leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Sleep well, amoureux." I said and turned around about to walk out when she grabbed my hand. "Wait!" I turned back around.
She looked down as her cheeks turned red. "Stay.." Brooklyn looked back up. "I may not want to sleep with you, but I didn't say I wanted you to leave."
So for the next 2 hours I sat up with her as she rambled about her life growing up. How she's been picked on by the kids at school for being the only one of her siblings who didn't get powers.
She didn't mind not having powers she said, said she was like her uncles because they didn't have powers either.
A couple of her cousins got them even though their fathers didn't have them. She still didn't care about having them, Brooklyn even said she hoped her daughter didn't get any powers, not that she would be envious over it but because she wanted her to grow up with a normal life.
I switched off her TV when I realized she'd fallen asleep. I carefully moved her off my arm and onto her pillow then got up.
When I got to the door I looked back over at her to make sure I didn't wake her up. I waited about a minute before I opened the door and left the room and quickly and as quietly as I could.
I went to my room and and changed into something comfortable for bed.
As I laid in bed I felt something nagging at me the whole time I tried to go to sleep. I usually found sleep easily, not tonight apparently.
I groaned and got up and went out and and down the stairs for a glass of water.
When I got there I seen Bailey. She must have just gotten home from work. "You're home early!" I said when I noticed the time.
"Yeah, there was a co-worker who has covid so they sent us home till our results cone back." She didnt seem bothered by that though.
I knew wolves were more susceptible to human illnesses but lycans weren't. We can be in a room with 100 people who have covid and not catch it.
"Well I hope you are in the clear." She nodded her head, taking a sip of the water she had. I went over and grabbed a glass and filled it. "Why are you up? It's 4am you're usually asleep!" She asked.
I turned back to her then shrugged shoulders. "Can't sleep, I don't know why though."
"How much do you know about the Judas Coven, Scott?" She asked me leaning on the counter while looking at me. I stared at her with a bit of amusement.
I chuckled once and shook my head. "Just that it contains less than 20 members."
"It's my family's coven. My great great great grandmother founded it after a coven cursed her but unknowingly gave her powers. She killed every person in that group, even the children who had no powers." She said, I went to apologize but she continued.
"Centuries later she possessed my great grandmother so she could take over her body and live again, bur my great grandma killed her daughter then herself before she came through." She told me. "Then 29 years ago she tried again, and succeeded."
I looked at her with some pity. She kept her thoughts clear so I couldn't tread them, I've noticed she did that anytime she was around me it wasn't like Brooklyn whose were just beautiful silence, Bailey's was like a static going off in her head, my parents did that when they knew I could hear them.
"Who was it she possessed?" I asked her quietly. "First let me ask you one thing first. Have you lost a mate before?"
My brows furrowed, I shook my head. "How about someone you love dearly. I thought back on my baby sister, my parents yes I loved them but I believe I loved my sister more, she was the family princess.
And that wasn't an exaggeration we were our kinds Prince and and Princess on my mother's side back in France.
"My baby sister Victoria!"
She nodded her head. "My mother lost my dad. Yes it was only for half an hour but she still felt him die, she left the pack with the man that was responsible for killing him, Quientin Dale!" My eyes widened a little and at looked it the stairs.
Was he related to Ryan? "From what we were all told, mom was gone for a little over a month, she was found at first a week or so after she left in the same budding she was brought to when she was kidnapped, killed 12 people before she murdered Quientin."
A heavy sigh left her. "While she was gone, she was attacked by witches, one was temporarily possessed by Amara Judas." I nodded my head letting her know I was listening. "She cursed my mother by putting the coven symbol on her, when the mark reached her heart that's when Amara would take over."
I ran my ha ds through my hair, that must have been intense. "A visit from the Moon Goddess told my uncle Brandon to bring me to her before she came through, but after her wolf had died. Clary had to die in order for me to save her.."
I put my ha d up, stopping her from talking. "You're telling me...that your mother, a teenage girl, delt with the pain of a dying mate, then suffered with the pain of loosing her inner soul too?" Bailey nodded her head. "How on earth did her wolf die? Silver and wolfsbane won't kill her because she's a witch too."
"The witch that was corrupted by Lord Sebastian and my great-grandmother Amara had an old family blade that was coated in wolfsbane, silver , and oleander." I stared at her in shock. Her mother should have died too, not just her wolf.
"After Amara, killed my mom, she realized that my mother didn't actually die, because of me she was still with her. I don't know how I did it, but I was able to keep my mother's soul with her body even though Amara had taken over it."
A smile formed on her face. "My aunt Ophelia, and uncles Landon and Marco helped my grandpa kill Amara for good and bring my mom back." She looked back up at me. "We may not have alot of people in our coven, but we have the strongest people in it."
I nodded my head. "I understand, I'm sorry for judging so fast." I may have to ask if I can join the coven since I'm in the pack now.
"One of my gifts, Scott, I can feel people's emotions. I'm an empath. So even with a sound proof room, I can tell when my sister is hurting." That must be hard to deal with at times I'm sure. "But since you arrived, I don't think I've ever seen her so calm or relaxed around anybody. Not even when she was with Ryan, before he started cheating on her."
Bailey set her cup down and stepped closer to me. "I know lycans are different than us wolves are when it comes to a mate bond. But is my sister your mate?" I blinked at her, a little shocked she could feel that coming from just her sister alone.
I cleared my throat and looked over at the stairs again. "I don't know. Until Ryan's mark is gone, I won't know." I admitted to her looking back down at her.
She smiled with a nod of her head. "You should tell her, Scott. I don't want her to be shocked when it happenes one day unexpectedly. Daddy Wyatt hid that from my mom for well over a year and she wasn't happy about it when she realized it."
My lycan suddenly got agitated and growled. "What's wrong, Ezekiel?" I asked my lycan, he growled again. "I can hear Zena, she's crying and I don't like it."
"How can you hear, Brooklyn's wolf? We havent marked one another, what you're saying isn't possible." He growled at me.
"Whats up?" Bailey asked. I huffed slme. "My lycan Ezekiel said he can hear Zena. That she is crying or something like that."
I watched her posture stiffen. She craned her neck a little. I didn't have to ask what she was doing I could hear her wolf talking to her and her talking back. "She isn't responding to her sister wolf." Bailey muttered. "I also can't feel anything coming from her from down here."
I took a gulp of my water the set the cup in the sink. I turned and made my way back up the stairs, Bailey following me closely.
I opened the door to the bedroom and was hit with a smell I knew very well.
Blood.
Bailey must have smelt it too because she pushed past me and ran to her sister. "Brooke?" She pulled the blanket down.
She gasped as tears gathered in her eyes. "Brooklyn wake up." I heard the waver in her voice. " EVAN!" She yelled. I stepped closer to see what she was so upset about, it only took me 2 steps to see it.
The bed beneath her was stained in red. "Come on you're stronger than this, Brooke. You have made it this far, hang on a little longer."
Evan finally burst into the room, his breathing heavy, he was only a room down the hall, why is he out of breath?
"I need you to watch Tyler, something is going on with Brooke." Was all she said. She looked over at me and I didn't even need her to say anything. I walked over, just as Bailey moved I picked Beooklyn up.
Once she was secure Bailey placed her hand on me then the world spun so fast around me, I almost lost my footing when we ended up in the emergency room of a hospital.
"Damn it I teleported us to my uncles pack hospital." She grumbled "Just come on..." She pulled on my arm and went over to the front desk.
