Chapter 65
Brooklyn's POV
"What if she doesn't like me?" I asked Scott. I could hear everyone, plus all the kids running around playing an enjoying themselves. Man did my cousins get busy after I left. Finding their mates and popping babies out left and right.
"Rosa will love you. She is half of you, Brooke!" I fixed the shirt Bailey let me borrow then fixed the shorts again making sure they weren't too short. I know I've done this about half a dozen times since showing up here.
"Hey!" Scott grabbed my hands. "You look fine. Stop fretting about, your nervous habits will die off once you and I have decided to mark each other again. But until then you will have to stop fretting so much and just relax so you can go and see our beautiful daughter."
"Is that a Lycan thing? Wolves don't fret like this." I asked him pulling my hair into a neat ponytail. I quickly ducked for his side view mirror to make sure it looked perfect. He chuckled lightly pulling me away and back to him.
"It is. You'll begin to do similar things over me too as our bond begins to grow again. Reforges itself around one another until we are comfortable and completely and utterly safe with one another," I nodded my head. He told me a few things to expect when we got up and I started doing things I didn't realize until he mentioned them. I was glad he was here to help me through these new obstacles, and didn't complain about it like some people would have.
"Come on, Penny has called twice now." He took my hand and pulled me away from the mirror I was trying to get back to. Scott had me stand behind as I held his hand tightly.
My nerves were a wreck and I wasn't sure who I was more excited to see. My parents or my daughter.
"Don't worry, amoureux. I have your scent covered. They won't sense you until you show yourself to, Rosalie." He stopped abruptly and I crashed into his back. I hit him but he said nothing.
"Uncle Scott, Rosie hit me in the face!" Was that Tyler? He sounded so big now. Like a grown little man.
"Why did she hit you Ty?" Scott asked him. So it was my favorite little nephew, I want to see who he has grown up to look like, Evan or Bailey?
"I don't know. I offered her a dino to cheer her up and she hit me with it. My nose hurts now." I almost wanted to laugh, but I also wanted to make his hurt nose feel better. Scott must have felt my intention and squeezed my hand.
"I'll ask her to apologize to you, alright?"
"No just tell her not to hit my nose if she does hit me again." I snickered as his footsteps dissapeared.
Scott turned to me and thankfully we were still near the vehicles, I saw the look in his eyes and I shook my head. No way was he asking me to stay here. Not after two years, I wasn't waiting any longer.
He sighed then kissed my forehead. "We will talk to her about it later then." He turned back around and made me stand behind him again. The sounds of laughter and children playing got louder as we got closer I had to cover my face with my hair as some people walked past us. One was an aunt and another was one of my dads, his scent made Zena whimper because she missed him just as much as I did..
"Hey, look. Who is that?" A familiar voice said. Penelope's voice to be exact, and hearing it made me want to crumble because I was really horrible to her in my final moments.
Then a huge little squeal was heard bringing me out of my thoughts.
Scott cleard his throat loudly and her shoes skidded on the gravel as she skidded to a stop. "How does a Princess present herself when approaching her King?"
"It's my day daddy. You don't matter!" He chuckled along with everyone else around him.
"What are you looking for?" I heard him ask her softly. He squeezed my hand. He told me before we got out that after the third one he wanted me to come out from around him. The palms of my hands felt hot and I wanted to wipe them off but I also didn't want to let go just in case I missed his signal.
"She promised she'd be here!" I squeezed his hand. I couldn't ask him what she meant because if I did everyone here would hear me and know prematurally I was here before the time was right. I also couldn't link him because I wasn't apart of this pack anymore. When i died I was essentially turned into a rogue. My brothers gave me free passage so that my scent wasn't a bother to the members here.
He shook our hands lightly. I have no damn clue what that meant, I groaned inwardly and let my head fall on his back. "Rosa, who promised what?"
"Umm...the lady. The one with long bright hair and a white pretty dress." Did she mean Selene? The Moon Goddess?
"Selene?" My mother asked her. Her voice sounded just like I remember it did.
"Yes, her. She promised me yesterday that my mommy would be here for my party! She lied!"
My head shot up uncaring of who saw me now. Scott let my hand go and I took a few steady deep breaths to calm my raging nerves. "Baby, I'm sorry. But sometimes she cannot bring people back even if she did make that promise." Just as my mother was finished saying that, I moved from around Scott. My heart was beating like a drum in my ribcage, I was sure that even the people from space could hear it, it was so loud in my own ears.
"No, I know what she said!" She went to push my mom away but only just skidded her little feet against the gravel while my mother stood in place. The wind shifted a little, then she stopped and turned around with her little fists balled up at her sides. "Daddy, make them stop, I wanted to hurt-" she stopped seeing me standing next to Scott.
"Go" Scott leaned over and whispered while tucking some hair behind my ear. I didn't hesitate either, both me and Zena moved towards her, Rosalie's little feet began running too when I did. The pigtails she had were bouncing as she ran in my direction.
I slid onto the harsh blunt rocks at my feet as I reached her and scooped her into my arms. Her small frame colliding with mine with such a force that I had to catch myself from falling over. Her arms went around my neck while mine wrapped around her tightly.
Tears filled my eyes and cascaded down my cheeks as I held the one good thing that ever happened in my life. I may have been a horrible person and said terrible things regarding her before, but now as I sat here holding her in my arms as she sobbed right along with me, it felt right. Like if everything around me started burning, I wouldn't care as long as I had her and she was safe, then all was fine.
"Why didn't you come back?" Her question made another sob leave me. I've made this innocent little angel suffer because of my mistakes. She suffered the loss of a parent because I was too weak and broken to live, too weak even for her.
I refused to answer her. She wouldn't and I repeat would never know the truth about what he did to me. I will let him stay buried in the past where he should have been when Scott came back with help. Everything was fine after that, I never saw him again until I went after him. And I should have left it at that, but I didn't and that was my biggest mistake.
She pulled back so I did too. I used my shirt to clean her face of tears and snot, she smiled and poked my cheek. "You have my eyes." I murmured.
"And the red mark that looks like a poop here on your leg. Daddy said mine is in the same spot as yours." I looked over my shoulder and glared at him it was a smudge not a poop and he knew that.
He looked at the sky like he didn't see my glare. I went back to Rosalie and smiled. "Do you know what it is?" Iasked her as she showed he her little red smudge. When she shook her head I continued. "It's your blood, it's just under the skin and won't hurt or itch. I call it my beauty mark. I used to say Cupid shot me with his arrow in the leg and not the butt." She giggled and the sound made my heart melt into a whole damn puddle in my chest.
"Let me see yours!" She said jumping off me and crouching on the ground like that would help her see it better even though she could see it just fine with me wearing shorts. She slowly inched her finger to it and right before she touched it, Scott scared her.
"Dont! She'll melt!" Her eyes widened as she pulled her hand back.
"Scott!" I scolded him and pulled her back into my lap. "I won't melt, Rosalie. Your daddy is just being mean!"
"Whew, I thought I was gonna have to bring you home and put you in the swimming pool." Scott chuckled. I ignored him for scaring her like that. He quieted down as I began to fawn over our daughter. Her cute little outfit, her shoes, her hair, those chubby cheeks and that smile everytime she would look at me. And to think I tried to kill her before she was even born.
"You wouldn't ever go through with it. Deep down I knew you cared about her." Scott murmured into my ear as he helped me stand up while I still held into Rosalie. It wasn't until I finally decided to look up from her bubbly smile and face everyone else here. Only they were on their knees.
No not them too. My siblings were bad enough, "Scott ask them to stand up!" I whispered lowly feeling slightly uncomfortable with all of my family around on their knees.
"I can't, they aren't doing this because of me. They are doing it for the return of their Queen! And that is you, Brooke!"
"All hail Queen Brooklyn Nichols-Evans!"
