Chapter 44
Natalie POV
When Tristan and I arrived at Tristan’s mansion, Lauren the cook, was shocked to see both of them entering the living room. I had presumed that Tristan would be in another city at the moment, and never expected it to be otherwise.
I dropped to the couch the moment and breathed in relief. It has been a very hectic day for her and seeing that I was in one piece was one of the biggest things I had wished for in a long time.
“You look really unkept Natalie.” I opened my eyes to see that Tristan was staring at me. “I don’t mean it to be some sort of insult, but you need to get yourself clean.”
I totally understood his point and decided to take his advice. Tristan directed her to the guest room and while I was taking my bath, Tristan directed several other maids to get good female clothes for me.
Tristan proceeded to the kitchen, where I found the old woman cooking and for some odd reason, he was confused as to whether Mrs. Lauren would do such a thing.
Lauren on the other hand had felt his presence at first, but didn’t make any slight indication of turning around. After some minutes, I turned around and faked being scared at the sight of Tristan.
“Didn’t see you step in.” I commented, laughing awkwardly, while Tristan easily stared at her.
“Did you by any chance add something to my meal?” Tristan finally asked the one question that has been bothering his mind. Lauren was confused “No, I would never do such a thing. I have been serving Walters for a very long time; I would never do such a thing.”
Tristan still didn’t trust the woman's words. “Very well then, I just need to remind you that henceforth, I would be cooking the meal for myself.”
He left the kitchen and the thought of what could have possibly happened to him bugged his mind. Suddenly, an idea ran through his mind and he turned to the security room. The house had a surveillance camera and indeed there was no way that anything would have happened and it wouldn’t have been noticed by the camera.
Once he arrived at the security room, Tristan was surprised to see that the cameras had been shut down, leaving him even more confused. Who could have shut the camera down? He wondered. Tristan was beginning to realize that staying in the mansion wasn’t the safest thing to do at the moment.
While Tristan had the urge to come and meet me, he knew that I would most probably be tired. He decided to leave her till the next morning, where he would have time to discuss with me about the current awkward things going on around the place.
The next morning, Tristan was up early and immediately headed over to my room. He knocked on the door and I immediately opened the door.
Tristan stepped into the room and sat down on my bed, while I locked the door. I had been expecting that Tristan would bug her with question, but was surprised he chose to leave her till the morning.
“Something seem odd about this place.” Tristan commented.
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“The last thing I remember before opening my eyes to see that I was in a plane, was eating lunch and how I got to be in a crashing plane is really mysterious.” He explained. “Again, the surveillance camera hasn’t been active.” Tristan explained further.
The other hand, believed that Tristan was going to question her about her incident, but he had chosen another topic, which was much more vital at the moment.
“We need to leave this place.” Tristan announced after momentary silence. He realized that staying at the mansion would poise security threat to both of them.
“Where are we headed?” I asked.
“Don’t worry, I have my personal apartment that would be conducive for both of us.” Tristan assured and I immediately stood up to her feet, began to gather my old clothes that the maid had taken their time to clean up.
“I am ready.” I declared.
“Alright, wait for me. I will be back.” Tristan stepped out of my room and went to get his car keys.
They stepped out of the mansion and unto Tristan ’s black mustang. While cruising along the highway, Tristan checked through the side mirror and realized some group of black vans on their trail for some minutes now.
He didn’t want to believe that they were after him and turned to the left road, in a bit to determine if he was the target. He checked the side mirror afterwards and realized they were still behind him. For further confirmation, he turned to the right side of the road once more and checked the mirror to realize that indeed, they were after him.
“We have company!” Tristan announced and increased the speed of his car. He observed the black vans behind him and realized that there was only one person that had a series of black vans; Felix.
“Do you have a gun?” He asked me, after making a sharp turn to the left and I shook my head to say no. I had also noticed the black van and they were indeed Felix’s van. I was frightened and began to offer prayers to deities above, not to get caught once more by the demon himself.
Tristan knew that allowing the black van to chase him would only be at his disadvantage. They could outnumber him and there would be no place he could stay. He continued cruising through the highway roads, till he was at the outskirt of BAO, where lots of bushes, covered sides of the road.
“We need to stop here.” Tristan announced, pulling the car over.
They both stepped out of the car, Tristan grabbing my hand and running into one of the bushes, where they found a place to hide.
Meanwhile, Felix’s soldiers took notice of the black mustang and stopped their van right beside it and rushed out to check the car to realize we weren’t inside.
“Search around the bushes, they shouldn’t have ran too far from us.” The leader announced to his men and they commenced their search for both Tristan and me .
