Chapter 29: The Fragile Angel
"It's noisy."
I woke up to the alarm on my desk and touched the alarm behind me to turn off the bell.
Closing my eyes and trying to go back to sleep, I suddenly remembered that I had to go see Eric in the hospital today.
I instantly sat up from the bed and slapped my cheeks hard to try to wake myself up a bit.
The phone kept vibrating on the bed, and I wondered whose call it was.
Fumbling out my phone and seeing Damon's avatar bouncing on the screen, I dropped it back onto the bed as if I had been electrocuted.
"Is it to sign the contract in the morning?"
I looked at the phone that automatically hung up, and Damon's avatar was still flashing.
I cleared my throat to make myself sound refreshed.
"Why aren't you answering your phone?" Damon's mellow voice came over the phone, tinged with anger.
I rolled my eyes, not understanding how this man liked to be so angry.
"Mr. Damon, may I ask what's up? It's only 7 o'clock in the morning, as a night worker, shouldn't I be sleeping?"
Because I had just woken up from a nap, I had a terrible temper.
Damon on the other side of the phone was silent for a long time, probably because it was the first time he saw that I would suddenly lose my temper.
Before last night, in front of Damon, I had tried to retain respect for my guests.
"Little fox, I can't sign the contract today, I have something very important to travel today."
Damon's voice was calm again, his voice had some huskiness to it.
"Sorry, I just got up ......"
I rubbed my forehead with some headache, regretting my words just now.
"It doesn't matter, don't let me make a second call in the future."
Sure enough, showing weakness and explaining were both just a momentary thing, and the man was back to his proud stance, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes again.
"Bye."
I said goodbye to him and hung up straight away.
I was going to get some sleep, but thinking about the tone of his words just now, I was very angry in my chest and planned to get up and go see Eric.
"What's the matter, did Damon piss you off again?"
Jenny appeared in the doorway of the room again at some point, and I threw her a pillow, she was always the first to show up when something gossipy happened.
"The hickey on your neck ......"
"I also boiled the milk, it is not paste."
My words had not finished asking, Jenny turned and ran, I could only shake my head helplessly.
Jenny some times seems to be very much like my sister who likes to avoid questions, no, my sister is instead the most mature one of us.
When I was completely packed and ready to go out Jenny called out to me, "Are you sure you don't want me to stay with you? And here's your check."
I took the check from Jenny's hand, the one that still smelled like Damon's perfume, and no matter what, the deal with Damon was way too timely.
This money is like a chance from heaven that Eric can continue to survive.
Because of the sudden deterioration of Eric's condition last time, Jenny was very worried about my situation, she was worried that I would do something more excessive because of the money.
"Jenny I'll be fine, I still have Damon."
I rushed to hold the check in my hand and waved it at Jenny, who only reluctantly allowed me to visit Eric on my own.
Half an hour later, I finally arrived at the hospital.
I stood downstairs and looked at Eric's hospital room for a long time.
I felt very guilty about sneaking Eric out of the hospital last time, and although William told me that Eric's condition had started to deteriorate a long time ago, I still couldn't let it go.
If he hadn't been out and about, he might have been able to deteriorate more slowly.
The morning sun was blinding, and I squinted up at William's office to find for William standing by the bed waving his hand at me.
Well, now there was no excuse not to go up there.
Since Eric had fainted, William had moved his office to a room on the same floor as Eric's, so that he could easily keep an eye on Eric's condition.
I walked to the door of Eric's hospital room with a somewhat heavy heart and saw Eric through the window.
The nurse was sitting at the bedside with a storybook in her hand and should be telling him a story.
The sunlight spilled from the window onto Eric's face and I was able to see his curly eyelashes and small face as if he was a very delicate doll.
This is his face is a little too pale, even his breathing is a little more faint than usual.
All these details were very painful for me, and my heart seemed to be as heavy as if it had been filled with a big stone.
"Selena!"
Eric saw me, and he just sat on the hospital bed and waved his hand at me.
The pale cheeks had regained some of their rosy color, and I could hear the weakness in his voice.
I walked up and gave him a gentle hug.
"Erik, guess what I brought you?"
I asked softly as I left a kiss on his bare forehead and gently stroked his hair.
I didn't dare to speak too loudly or too hard for fear that he would shatter if I pushed a little harder and louder.
"What is it Selena, come on tell me , I can't guess!"
Eric burst out of my embrace, with big eyes eyelashes blinking like feathers, turquoise blue pupils written with happiness and curiosity.
"It's five little bunnies!"
I pulled out a gift box from my bag and handed it to Eric.
"Oh my God Selena, you are an angel sent from God!"
Eric squealed happily and reached for the gift box, carefully opening it to see five bunnies inside and a little gray bunny in the middle of the black and white bunnies.
"Oh my, this must be Sophie and brother-in-law's baby!"
Seeing the smallest rabbit made Eric even more excited, and he held the box in his arms and gave me two hard kisses on the cheek.
I held back the tears that had welled up in my eyes, patted his little head and said, "You're my angel."
"Erik, what gift did Sister Selena bring you?"
William walked into the ward at some point, and he asked Eric with a doting smile on his face.
"It's not my gift, I picked out a wedding gift for Sister Sophie."
Eric held up the box in his hand and showed William the gifts he had selected, while explaining to William the meaning of these gifts.
William's face always kept a gentle smile as he listened patiently to Eric's narrative.
He really is a very gentle man, really special for Jenny.
I was a little disoriented staring at William.
"Sister Selena, you really like Dr. William, you keep smiling when you look at Dr. William."
I was awakened by Eric's words and hurriedly glanced at William, found that William was also looking at me and shifted my eyes back to Eric's body.
"Little kid, you're still young, so you don't know what like is!"
