Chapter 60 - Alexander's Deception
"Where would you like to go, pretty lady?"
By the time I pulled Alexander and tried to leave, several men with different colored hair had appeared behind me.
They were very intricately tattooed, and each had some scars on their faces.
These people were closing in on Alexander and me, and such behavior made me very uneasy.
I turned my head to look at Alexander and was just about to open my mouth to call out to him when I felt a dark shadow flash across my eyes and I blacked out for a moment.
I felt a painful sensation in my forehead and reached up to touch it, warm liquid sliding down my forehead.
My eyes could no longer focus and I looked at Alexander with the last of my strength.
And Alexander, who had been standing behind me a moment ago, was long gone.
I finally couldn't support myself and passed out completely.
When I opened my eyes again, I was greeted by a pale ceiling and the air smelled like the hospital's characteristic sterile water.
"My money!" I sat up with a jerk and fumbled around for my suitcase in a panic, but I didn't feel anything.
"You're awake? Hold on, I'm calling the doctor." The nurse saw that I was awake and tried to go out to call the doctor but I stopped her.
"How did I get here?" I asked, rubbing my forehead in confusion.
"It was an ambulance that was called to take you to the hospital, you'd better ask Dr. William about the specifics."
The nurse finished ignoring me and went straight out the door.
William soon arrived, and unlike the usually exquisitely dressed William, today his clothes possessed very obvious creases, and even his face was a little paler than usual.
William saw that I was awake and took two steps over to the hospital bed and embraced me directly in his arms.
"Thank God, it's a good thing nothing happened to you." William's hold on me was so strong that I couldn't break free of his embrace.
I could feel his body trembling slightly, and even his voice had an undisguised worry in it.
"Why am I here, have you seen Alexander?" William calmed down a bit and finally let go of me, and I hurriedly asked after him.
William's expression was very hard, he opened his mouth, but eventually closed it, and instead of answering my question, he hugged me tightly again.
Because of the problem that William was running away from, this made a bad idea use to appear in my mind as well, but I was a little afraid to admit it.
"Where's my suitcase? Have you seen my box?" And my voice gradually trembled.
My eyes were locked on William's lips and I was so worried that he would say the answer I didn't want to hear, unfortunately. My wish was dashed.
"When I saw you, you were lying in the ambulance covered in blood, with nothing around you." William's eyes were fixed on the other side, not daring to look directly at me, and immediately afterwards he added, "Alexander wasn't with you. Did he not take you straight back to the manor? And then where did you go."
I tried to adjust my emotions, always keeping myself sane, and recounted the day's encounter to William.
William looked at me heartily as he listened, and said nothing to comfort me, but made his attitude clear by his actions.
And long before the narrative was finished, I couldn't stop the tears running down my face, and finally I couldn't contain my emotions any longer and broke down and cried.
That's $100,000. Losing that money is the same as losing Eric's hope for surgery.
"I should have known he was lying to me, I shouldn't have just taken out all the money, it's all my fault!" I couldn't help but grab my hair and blame myself as I pulled at it, trying to make myself feel better inside that way.
William heartily wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes and patted my back gently.
"You shouldn't worry too much about Eric's match, I've mobilized all my connections to find the adapter officer."
At William's words, my body stiffened and the tears welled up even more.
I hate myself for trusting someone so easily and for being too impulsive, which has led to the consequences now.
"But I can't afford to pay for the surgery anymore." I whimpered in William's arms.
Even if I went back to work at the nightclub, I wouldn't be able to come up with enough money to pay for the surgery anytime soon, and this thing made me feel desperate.
The consequences that resulted from my negligence were something I simply could not afford.
William fell silent and I finally found some sense and sat up straighter, reaching up to wipe the tears off my face.
Suddenly, I saw a familiar figure in the doorway of the ward, the one with the flash of fiery red hair, and I almost thought I'd misread it.
My heart skipped a beat at the thought of myself crying out in William's arms earlier, but I quickly let it go.
Don't understand why Damon is here, but none of that matters to me anymore.
I clenched my hands into fists and pondered how I would be able to come up with enough money to pay for Eric's surgery.
After the lessons Alexander brought me, I don't trust anyone anymore, and all things that need to be done through my own efforts.
"Selena, are you okay!" Jenny exclaimed my name as soon as she entered the door of the hospital room.
By now Jenny's eyes were red and puffy and looked like she had already had a good cry, probably from outside where she had overheard me and William talking.
Jenny came up and hugged me tightly and kept apologizing to me, "I'm sorry honey, I really didn't expect Alexander to be like that, it's my fault, if I had gone back to the manor with you none of this would have happened."
I knew it wasn't Jenny's fault, but I couldn't get the words to comfort Jenny out of my mouth.
"Don't worry, I'll work with you to get the money for the surgery, or I'll sell everything, look this is the jewelry my grandmother left me, selling it will be enough to pay for Eric's medical bills."
Jenny released me and pulled a velvet box from her bag, opening it, inside lay a sapphire ring with a pristine gemstone face, reflecting Jenny's sincere face.
I closed the box and put it back in Jenny's hand, giving her a hug again, I had come up with a solution, although I wasn't sure if it would help me solve the problem.
Since it was only a forehead injury, after sending Jenny and William away, I got an Uber and headed back to the family estate.
Yes, I could only rely on my family for a complete solution to the funding of Eric's condition, and I needed to obtain my parents' help.
"Selena, I'm telling you for the last time, the family won't pay a dime."
My father stood at the window, his voice revealing a desperation that was not the least bit negotiable.
