Chapter 63 - Meeting of the Parents
"What happened to your forehead, and who did it?"
Damon's fingers stroked gently near the wound on my forehead, only to speak in a very harsh tone, fury that clearly made him angry.
I lifted my eyes to look at him and opened my mouth to explain something when I suddenly blacked out and passed right out.
I heard Damon's hiss before I lost consciousness completely, but I couldn't open my eyes.
By the time I woke up again, I was in Damon's apartment, and I looked around at the strange and familiar surroundings, holding my forehead and propping myself up to sit up.
"Selena, you're finally awake!" Jenny's surprised voice came, and it was only then that I saw Jenny, who was sitting on the sidelines watching over me.
"What are you doing here, did Damon tell you to come over?" I looked over at Jenny in confusion.
Jenny nodded and sat on the edge of the bed, holding my hand, her face was hard and she also had big dark circles under her eyes, clearly not rested.
"Where did Damon go?" I looked around and there was no sign of Damon.
"He's been keeping watch over you here for two days, and he just called me over to take care of you after something happened at work first." Jenny, her eyes red and swollen, with traces of tears still faintly in them, said to me wearily.
"You know you were in a coma for two whole days this time! Do you know how worried I was about you?" Jenny grabbed my hand very hard, showing that she was quite worried right now.
"It's been so long ...... isn't Sophie getting married today!" I seemed to remember something and immediately jumped up from the bed and was going to go out.
Jenny held me down, "You still have time, no need to rush."
Luckily, there were plenty of clothes in the apartment, so I quickly picked one and changed into it before dragging Jenny straight to the manor.
When I returned to the manor, however, it wasn't Sophie's wedding that I saw, but my parents with both William Morgan's siblings, and the two nobles standing beside William.
I looked at the scene before me suspiciously, my eyes falling on my parents with an inquisitive look in them.
My mother took my hand very warmly and said to the other two older elders, "The young people still have some unsteadiness, so I'm making you both look funny."
Because of my parents' attitudes, I also took a closer look at two other elders that bore a fifty percent resemblance to both William and Morgan, probably their parents.
I turned my head, looked stonily at my mother and father, and shook my head gently.
I really don't understand the "surprise gift" they have prepared for me this time.
But in the spirit of basic noble etiquette, I continued to finish my pre-dinner socializing, and when I finally breathed a sigh of relief, that's when I found William and dragged him to his room.
"What's this about?" Although I had a vague answer in my mind, I still wanted to check with William.
"Engaged." William took my hand in both of his, his silvery gray eyes looking deep into mine, his eyes filled with tenderness.
"So soon!" I said as I carefully pulled my hand out of William's and lowered my eyes.
Although the misunderstanding with Damon had been cleared up, there were more important issues to deal with.
Perhaps, my agreement with Damon is going to be completely null and void from now on.
I couldn't stop the tears from welling up again at the thought, and I blinked desperately so they wouldn't fall.
William tenderly lifted my chin, heartache written in his eyes as he carefully wiped my tears.
"It's only an engagement, I can wait until you accept me completely before I get married. "William tried to comfort me, only those reassurances didn't work and my tears welled up even more.
William was so shocked by me that he panicked and wiped the tears from my face.
"I know you'll feel too anxious, but Eric's condition can't be delayed any longer," William explained as he wiped my tears away.
"It's the only way I can have a legitimate excuse to use the family's power, and I assume you want to help Eric find a matching organ as soon as possible, right?"
I admit that William was right, but I simply could not control my sadness, and I could only hold back my tears and nod hard to show that I agreed with him.
Yes, Damon and I are so far apart in status that Morgan is the woman who can deserve him.
William carefully wiped my tears and coaxed me gently, and this time I didn't blink.
Just then, my afterimage caught sight of a familiar flash of fiery red hair suddenly appearing around me.
I tried to break free of William's hand, and William saw Damon, too, and he held me directly behind him, his gaze full of hostility.
"Damon, what are you trying to do?" William's tone was rarely stern and tinged with a hint of anger.
I could feel William's entire body stiffen.
"Let go of my woman." Damon exuded an icy aura as he looked down at William, who was just a little shorter than him, like a king speaking to his subject.
"She's not your woman, today is my engagement to Selena, if you're here to congratulate us then I welcome you, if not ......" William's tone was threatening, more so as he held me back More complete.
I stood behind William, not knowing exactly what to do for a moment in the face of such a situation.
My heart was telling me that I didn't like William, that I wanted to be with Damon, and reason was pulling me, that I needed the help William brought.
Standing behind William, I made no move, much less see the expression on Damon's face at this point.
"What happens if it's not?" Damon's tone was even colder, more like a demon from hell at this point, and I could hear the depression in Damon's tone.
Damon was already holding back his temper and not lashing out completely.
"Then please get out, this is a matter between our two families and not for you, an outsider, to interfere."
With those words, William turned and took my hand, and tried to leave the place.
"Selena, I want you to speak for yourself."
Without William's cover, my entire body was exposed to Damon's face, and I couldn't even look up at him directly when I heard Damon's voice.
"Selene!" Damon was clearly holding back to the point where he looked like a lion about to explode, and it was impossible to help but be afraid.
I took a step back, my mouth quirking at the corners.
"I'm going to be engaged to William, and I'd be happy if ...... you gave me your blessing."
With those words, I finally worked up the courage to look up at Damon, doing my best to keep a smile on my lips, though I thought it would be a very ugly one.
Damon's eyes widened and looked at me without blinking, incredulity written in his pupils, and I saw the hurt deep in the turquoise eyes.
