In my feelings

"I'm here now."
He flashed me a hard look. It didn't seem like he heard me. "And now your mother is in jail." His voice was filled with regret. "The person who saved you, the woman who brought back color to my life. And yet, here I sit, I hate it."
He slammed a fist repeatedly against my heart monitor until it died.
"No! Roman! Please stop blaming yourself."
"It's the truth," he shouted in frustration. I'd never heard his voice so loud. I'd never seen such hate in his eyes. It was terrifying.
"I'm alive, Roman, lets just not think about the what —"
He interrupted me. "Why did you go meet him?"
"Hypnosis."
He fumed beside me. His hands trembling so hard that the bed shook slightly. "He didn't hurt you did he?"
"No," I answered quickly, I didn't want his anger to get to him. I understood immediately what he had been getting at. For there was only one way anyone could ever hurt me, take the one thing that mattered most in me life (other than Roman) — my virginity.
"I was worried too, you know. I thought... —" I gulped — "I thought I might never see you again."
"What did Nikolai want with your mother?"
"He wanted Jennie to watch, and he made her watch all the horrible things he did to me."
Roman glared at the wall, disgusted. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that alone."
I hated watching him in agony, agony my almost death caused him. I thought my body would suddenly explode from witnessing the regret and hopelessness in his eyes. He gave me a smile that made my heart break for him.
"Roman, you can't imagine how bad I felt when I saw the terror in my mother's eyes. Before last night — I mean the twenty seventh of May, I always thought nothing scared Jennie but the second Nikolai put his hands on me. My mother lost it. I can only imagine what it was like for her, to see me like that. I wouldn't want you to witness anything like that."
Roman hung his head in shame.
I placed my hand over his. "Don't—"
"How did you get home so fast?"
"I asked the driver you sent for me to get me to Jennie's house."
"When my driver got there he didn't find you."
"Oh," I whispered, my eyebrows pulling together. "Then who sent the car?"
"That bastard!" Roman roared at the same I made the chilling discovery. "Nikolai," I mumbled.
The nurse, along with Ruth and Kate, Julius and Isaac, Anton and a new pixie head, blond girl pushed through the door.
There was a moment of silence. Every pair of eyes in the room turned to stare at the destroyed machinery beside the bed and then at Roman in shock. The poor nurse had her mouth hanging open, her eyes round with horror. Nobody said a word. It looked like they weren't even breathing.
Ruth eyed the mess on the floor again and sighed, scolding Roman with her eyes. Kate kissed my cheek and started cleaning the floor.
Julius and Anton shrugged and Isaac roared with laughter. The new girl looked like she'd rather be somewhere else. The look Ruth was giving her made me feel sympatric.
"Nuru," Anton greeted.
"Hello, Anton. What happened to your face?" He had fresh bruises.
He grimaced and looked at the new girl instead. "Meet my lady friend, Isabel. Isabel that's the infamous Nuru."
I got suspicious of the way he put emphasis on lady. There was something way too friendly about the way he was looking at her.
"What a pleasure to meet you," she said and extended her hand. She had a southern accent. Was she from Taxes?
"Hi," I said pleasantly, and to show the only reason I wasn't shaking her hand was because of the pain I'd feel, I jerked my chin towards my hands. "Sorry."
I winced in pain, agony shooting through me at the slight movement.
Roman flashed Isabel a dumbfounded, irritated look.
"Oh," she mumbled, looking uncomfortable.
The whole time Isabel held her hand out Isaac was giving her the are-you-an-idiot look. He shook his head and the corners on his mouth faced south but then his lips twitched and a faint rumble shook him, evidently he was fighting laughter.
"I'm hungry," I mumbled, to pull the attention away from her. My voice was muffled. I was tired enough to sleep again.
"Rest... I'll go make you something to eat," Roman offered. The nurse was hooking a brand new heart monitor to the socket.
"Don't go," I begged.
"I'll be right back, Nuru," he whispered, and crouched down to kiss my forehead.
The monitor ratted out my abrupt pounding heart.
"Ha ha ha," Isaac laughed and nodded once as he continued. "...nice."
"No! Please stay." If my hands weren't in a state of agony I would have clung to his neck, holding him to me.
It looked like Roman wanted to roll his eyes but one look at my face convinced him otherwise. "I promise."
Isaac made kissing sounds and then rolled his eyes at us. Julius gave him a reproving look.
Isaac seemed like the naturally happy type. The kind of person who looked... wrong when they were upset or serious. His smiley nature was contagious and I caught both Kate and Roman fighting smiles. He seemed like he rarely took anything seriously and because of that it looked like happiness came naturally for him.
"Sit..." Isabel was telling Roman, I was busy hyperventilating still watching Isaac make a joke of my misery. "I'll get her some...." She trailed off, looking at Roman expectantly.
"Soup," he said, his voice kind. I was beginning to think he too felt she was good for Anton.
