CHAPTER FIFTEEN

" I'm sorry honey, I just got a little carried away, by my mood swings. You know it's not easy to carry this little bundle of joy in me"
Jack patted Mabel's back and apologized for being too harsh on her.
"I will pay for your suit as compensation," Jack said.
"No need"
"Don't act so cocky Ameliana, we all know that you can never afford something of that price and also I'm afraid that if you don't accept our help you are going to walk out of this store empty-handed, and that would be a shame now, right sis?"
Mabel said loud enough to draw the attention of a few customers.
" How thoughtful of her, I wish I had a sister like her", "that girl has no manners", "she is so rude and arrogant if someone offered to help me then I would let them"
Murmurs were heard among the crowd. Mabel was satisfied.
" I can pay for the suit, I don't need your money, in fact, I'll take this, this, ooh I like this one too"
Lia started picking random suits that caught her eye, without looking at their price tags. Lia was set on winning this round.
"Oh honey, there is no way you can pay for all of that. Instead of embarrassing yourself, just accept our help."
Mabel was sure that Lia was only going to make a full of herself. After all, she wouldn't be able to pay for atleast two suits.
"Watch me buy them" Thankfully Lia had brought the black card Leo gave her.
Lia took all the clothes she had picked and brought them to the cashier. Today she wasn't going to let Mabel win.
She brought out the black card and paid for her clothes, she quickly tucked the card back into her purse, she didn't want Mabel and Jack to see it.
Mabel and Jack came soon after, with the intention to shame Lia for not being able to pay for the clothes.
They were both shocked to see that Lia had already paid for them and the clothes were being put in a bag.
"Wow Lia, so you are really whoring around" Jack was heartbroken.
He didn't want to believe that Lia had sold her body. But now the proof was right in front of him.
"What I do with my life is non of your business".
Mabel couldn't let Lia get away with this.
"How much did she pay for these clothes, My hubby here, will pay thrice the price. I want everything she bought just now"
" What?" Jack shouted.
" Right hubby? won't you do this little favor for me" Mabel said with a pout.
Hearing this made the cashier happy. She could take the extra money.
Lia just stood there, all she wanted to do was to show them that, she could pay for the clothes.
If Mabel was going to buy them then at least she would be able to get a refund.
"Mabel don't you think that's too much, she already bought it"
" I want them, and Lia needs to know her place. I can't just let her walk away after she looked down on us for offering her help"
Jack gulped and hesitantly gave the cashier the card.
Jack's allowance was cut short because his father was annoyed with him for a reason he still had no idea of.
Paying for those clothes alone could make him broke, and now he was going to pay thrice the amount.
Even if he had his full allowance, he still wouldn't be able to pay thrice the amount.

The cashier swiped the first time.

she glared at Jack, clearly annoyed that she wasn't going to get a dime from them.
"Mam, the card isn't working," the cashier said.
"Impossible do it again"
Jack was already feeling the waves of shame.
This time the cashier was annoyed. She didn't want to say it out loud before but Mabel was getting on her nerves.
"Your money is insufficient to make this purchase, it's not even enough to pay for the original price"
The cashier's voice was loud enough for the customers who were watching them to hear.
Two girls at the corner were talking about how Mabel was acting so cocky and arrogant when she didn't even have the money.
Mabel turned pink from the embarrassment. She gave Lia one last glare before leaving.
"Sorry" Jack apologized and followed Mabel.
Lia was amazed and also sad. It turned out that the couple got a taste of their own medicine, but she didn't get the refund that she wanted.
She felt extremely bad for wasting so much money just to defend herself against people who weren't even worth it.
She decided to buy him something as well but this time with her own money.

AT THE GRIFFON'S RESIDENCE.

Mabel locked herself up in her room. The events of today were too much for her to handle.
She hadn't eaten breakfast and now she was refusing to eat her lunch.
Someone knocked at her door.
" What?" Mabel screamed not caring to know who it was first.
" Mabel, it's me, Jack. Please eat something, you are not only putting your health on the line but also the baby"
" Leave me alone, dammit"
" Please"
" You should have thought about that before you decided to embarrass me in front of everyone today"
" I'm sorry my love, just please open the door. I have some delicious food prepared for you"
" I won't say it again Jack, leave me the hell alone"
" Ok, but if you don't let me in, then I won't be able to tell you about the good news I've got concerning your role"
At the mention of the play, Mabel hurriedly ran to the door to open it, at least her day wouldn't be completely ruined.
Jack came in with a tray, containing a bowl of hot soup.
" What did they say?" Mabel asked with hope evident in her voice.
" I talked to the director and he agreed to give you a role" Mabel frowned.
She didn't want just any role she wanted to be the female lead.
" What did he give me?"
"I don't know, it is a supporting role. He hasn't decided what you will be doing actually"
SLAM
Mabel slammed her hand on the mini table.
"Get out"
"What?"
"I said get out, I hate you" She screamed at his face.
Mabel pushed Jack out of her room. She carried the tray of hot soup and threw it at Jack and immediately shut her door.
Jack's groans could be heard, but Mabel didn't care.
"Useless, they are all useless".
