CHAPTER FIFTY NINE
Mabel stood outside for a while. There weren't many guards so she was able to wander about without getting caught.
Mabel walked as she enjoyed the cool weather breeze that grazed her skin as she was enjoying the beautiful view.
Mabel found the garden and entered it with the intent to explored. It looked like a place you can only see in myths. Something about the place made her feel at peace and she almost forgot about the reason she was here.
Mabel was careful where she went, seeing as she didn't want to get lost in the maze-like flower paths.
Mabel came across some camellia bushes. The flowers looked as if they had just bloomed, the fragrance coming from them enticed her. she brushed her long fingers over some of its pink and succulent petals. It was the first time she had ever seen these flowers, but yet they suddenly became her favorite.
Mabel had completely forgotten that she was meant to be hidden and not exposed in the open area she currently stood in. Her interest in the flowers made her fail to notice the guard who was approaching her.
"Who are you? and state your business here," The guard said from a far distance.
Mabel was snapped out of her trance and frozen in her spot. She had just fucked up the plan by getting caught, Ben was going to kill her.
The only thing Mabel could register in her mind was to run and that was what she did.
"Hey" The guard shouted as he chased after her.
Mabel was faster and luckily for her, the guard was new and he wasn't familiar with the place yet, so it was all too confusing for him. He had managed to get lost before he could even catch up with her.
Mabel rejoiced as she had managed to get away from the guard, but she knew that she had to act quickly because now all the guards will be on high alert about the intruder.
Mabel walked a little deeper into the path she was in. Lia's familiar figure appeared in front of her however Lia's back was facing her. This was good, now she could finish her task more quickly and then return to her father who was waiting outside for her.
Mabel took out the gun from her back pocket as she slowly made her way toward Lia. She then remembered Ben's words, ***Do not hesitate to shoot***, but she ignored them.
"Lia, at last, we finally meet again. I have been waiting for this moment for so long, I can finally get rid of you and father will finally recognize me as his daughter, don't blame me for what I am about to do because you did way worse" Mabel said as she aimed the gun at Liana's head.
Mabel's gun clicked as she prepared to shoot, she placed her finger on the trigger and pushed it a little, she was too hesitant.
Mabel couldn't do it.
Mabel laughed bitterly and said "Even though I hate you so much I can't do it, how pathetic can I be" she lowered the gun.
"There she is," The guard from earlier said as he pointed at her.
Mabel glanced at him and saw that some other guards had followed him here. Mabel was outnumbered.
The guards saw the gun in Mabel's hand and they were instantly high on alert. They all pointed their weapons at Mabel and one of them said,
"Drop your weapon"
And then Liana turned around and looked straight at Mabel. She frowned when she noticed the scar on her face.
Mabel looked sternly at Liana. Something was different. There was a huge resemblance but some features were still missing. Mabel realized that she had been fooled by Ben once again.
This girl at her front wasn't Lia, That was probably why Ben wanted her to shoot immediately, so she wouldn't have time to recognize who she was targeting, but if Ben wanted this girl dead then she would do it.
Liana stretched her hand out and traced the scar on Mabel's face. Mabel didn't know why she didn't get the urge to push the girl away, in fact she felt a pull toward her.
Liana opened her mouth to speak,
"Does it hurt?" Hearing those words come out of Liana's mouth made her heart skip a beat. That was a question that she rarely heard.
Mabel shook her head and then Liana withdrew her hand.
"Have you seen my brother?" Liana asked her and she said No.
"Drop the weapon," the guard said again breaking them out of their little moment. Mabel had completely forgotten about the men. She looked around and saw that they had surrounded her and there was no way to escape.
Mabel raised her gun again and pointed it at Liana, Liana didn't flinch or cower in fear. She stood straight and smiled at Mabel. Mabel smiled back and sucked in a deep breath before saying,
"Goodbye" to Liana.
She closed her eyes and pulled the trigger and the sound of two more gunshots followed after and then she fell to the ground.
She had three choices.
To drop the gun and let the men take her away, but Ben will kill her.
To listen to Ben and shoot the girl but then the men will probably kill her.
And then lastly for her to end her own life there and then.
But she couldn't do it, she didn't have it in her to kill the girl. Mabel chose the last option, but she didn't have the guts to pull the trigger on herself. She shot ahead of Liana, making two of the guards shoot her.
Mabel lay on the floor with a hole in her chest and leg. She was bleeding profoundly, it was unbearably painful for her.
She couldn't hear anything, she couldn't hear the sound of Liana crying or Leo, Daina, and Cynthia's footsteps as they were fast approaching. All she could think about was the pain.
And then the pain disappeared. She smiled as her vision began to blur.
Cynthia who had seen Liana on her knees crying came to her side to lift her up. Mabel's blood had splattered a bit on Liana so her panic attack was acting up and she was finding it difficult to breathe. Cynthia managed to carry Liana inside while Leo and Diana remained at the scene.
"What happened here?" Leo roared angrily.
"Sir, this lady over here tried to kill the young miss" One of the men spoke.
And Leo and Diana's gaze fell on the figure laying on the floor.
"Don't you people know how to do your fucking job?" Leo yelled at them.
"We are sorry s..."
"How did she get in?" Leo asked but none of them had the answer to his question.
Meanwhile, Diana's eyes never left Mabel's body. She was on the verge of breaking down.
She knelt down beside Mabel who was still breathing steadily. With shaky hands, she raised Mabel's shirt and saw the birthmark on her stomach and then she began to weep. Mabel grew up to look just like her father, Diana thought. Diana raised Mabel's head and put it on her lap.
Mabel who was struggling to remain conscious, saw a person crouching over her. Her vision wasn't clear enough to completely make out who it was. The woman's resemblance to her father made her think it was him. She never believed that anyone would cry for her, but there her father was, he was there by her side to mourn for her. Her smile widened as her vision went pitch black.
"I'm sorry for not being useful to you, even in my death. I hope you can forgive me father" Mabel said one last time before she gave up.
