CHAPTER TWENTY

"I'm sorry Mother, but you just lost your son"
"What do you mean by that? You would rather go with that skank than stay here with your own mother"
"Watch your words" Jack spat out.
"I raised you, Jack, not only did you watch me get insulted but you chose her over me. Over your family"
"She is my family"
Jack's mother burst out into tears.
"What about your wealth?"
"None of those matter to me, not especially when Mabel and my baby are involved"
"You are going to regret this" Jack's mother wiped her tears away.
"Not as much as you are going to regret making me choose"
All this time Mabel was quiet. She silently watched the drama that played itself in front of her.
Nothing that Jack did or said shook her, she was happy with the split up between mother and son.
She was done with this family. They had nothing good to offer and if she was going to leave then something has to go wrong.
"Let's go, Mabel"
Jack carried Mabel bridal style and walked past his mother. He motioned for one of the drivers to prepare a car.
" I want to stop at the hospital," Mabel said.
" Take us to Ginseng hospital" Mabel looked at Jack and scrunched up her nose in disgust.
" Are you trying to make fun of me?"
" What do mean?"
" There is no way I'm going to go to that lowly place"
" Sigh" " where do you want to get treated?" Jack asked.
" Of course at the grand hospital, what kind of question is that?"
" Can you please, pick a less sophisticated place, it will be best if we start saving money"
" Are you so broke that you can't even afford for a little wound to get treated at the grand hospital?" Mabel said in a mocking tone.
" You know what? Here is my card. You might as well just use up all the money in there" jack yelled.
" Don't use that tone on me, I'm not your mother" Mabel fired back at him.
Jack kept silent. No one else said a word throughout the whole ride, not until they arrived at the hospital.
" Don't follow me in"
" Why not?"
" I want to be alone"
" How are you going to get back?"
" I will find my way"
" You don't even know where we are going to stay," Jack said frustrated.
" Just text me the address and I will find my way, Jack" Mabel gritted her teeth.
" You know what, forget it, I will take an Uber. The driver will wait here for you"
" Good, I'm leaving"
Mabel left Jack and went into the hospital.
" I want to see a doctor, the best. Make it snappy"
" Good morning mam, do you have an appointment?" Mabel narrowed her eyes at her.
" How rude, do you know who I am?. I don't need appointments to see a doctor"
"I'm sorry mam, but if you don't have a doctor's appointment then I can't let you in"
" Bullshit, can't you see that I'm bleeding or you want me to bleed to death before you get me a doctor"
" I'm sorry mam, but I really can't help you. You either have an appointment or you leave"
" You know what? Pack up your things and leave. I'm going to get you fired today"
" Good morning Linda, I hope there isn't any problem"
" Oh, thank God you are here doctor. I was just trying to explain to this lady here, that she can't see a doctor without an appointment " Mabel was stunned because of the deep and sexy voice that had just invaded her ears.
"And I don't need an appointment" Mabel turned around to look at the person.
Her breath hitched. He was gorgeous, she had never seen anyone like him and believe me when I say she has seen a lot of men.
"Well I'm sure we can make an exception for the lady"
"That could get you and I, into a lot of trouble," Linda said.
"Shh, no one has to know" Josiah winked at Mabel causing her cheeks to turn pink.
"Fine, but if you get caught it was only you"
"Yes mam"
Josiah grabbed Mabel's hand in his large and warm hands. His skin felt so good against Mabel's hand.
She loved the feeling of him touching her. Her cheeks were flushed and her heart pounded against her chest.
It was what one would call,

Mabel carefully watched him as his majestic fingers tended to her wound. She felt like the true Queen she was.
"Now that we are done with that. What happened to you?"
"I..I..m" Mabel was short of words. Josiah frowned.
"Are you having problems speaking too? Should I check that for you?" Mabel just shook her head.
"So tell me then, why is a pretty girl like yourself injured?"
Josiah smiled showing off his pearly white teeth. Mabel watched as his Adam's apple went in and out of its original position.
She gulped.
"Water please" she managed to choke out.
"Sure, do you want it warm or chilled"
"Warm"
Josiah grabbed one from his stash and opened the cap for her.
Mabel was still staring at Josiah. She missed her mouth and water spilled all over her body.
Josiah quickly took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped Mabel's mouth with it.
He gave the cloth to her, so that she could wipe the remaining parts of her body.
Mabel just stared at him confused, she wondered why he was giving her the handkerchief.
Josiah chuckled.
"You are really funny and cute" Josiah complimented her.
Mabel decided to leave. She wasn't feeling like herself. How could she fall for just a mere doctor?
"I'm leaving, how much?" Mabel asked.
"Don't worry about that. My services to you are free, love"
" Thank you"
" You can stop by anyway to have a checkup, I will inform Linda to bring you to my office"
" Goodbye"
Mabel rushed out of his office flustered. She waited till she got back into the car before she took out the handkerchief from her bag and smelt it.
" It smells just like him" she mumbled to herself.
