CHAPTER TWENTY NINE
After Mabel had run away from Leo. She shamelessly came back to join the crowd.
She made new friends amongst them, some had already began to worship the ground she walked on.
She caught their attention mainly by boasting of how the banquet was held for her and her fiance.
Some envied her, while others wished to be her. They didn't know how lucky they were not to be in her shoes.
As soon as the board members began to give their speeches one after the other, she left her group of friends to look for Jack.
She couldn't find him among the people standing in the hall. She wondered where that idiot could have possibly gone to.
She set her journey and began to look for him. She found him on the balcony, the same place she left him before.
But this time he wasn't alone. He was with his friends, bragging.
"Jack" Mabel called.
"Ah, Mabel. Look everyone it's my beautiful fiancee" Jack said proudly.
Some of his friends whistled at her and checked her out. Mabel just scoffed, she thought of them as nothing but the dirt that was meant to be beneath her feet.
"It's time," Mabel told him.
"It's time guys, for me to be crowned king" All his friends congratulated and cheered for him.
" Come give me a kiss Mabel" Jack came closer to her.
The smell of alcohol hit her nose and she pushed him away. He staggered a bit before gaining balance again.
"Are you drunk?"
"No, I'm just a bit tipsy that's all."
"How can you drink at such a critical moment?" Mabel scolded him.
"Stop making a big fuss about it Mabel, I only had a little to drink" Jack tried to defend himself.
"Whatever let's go" Jack followed suit behind Mabel.
Jack listened attentively to his father's speech. He became delighted hearing the words his father used to describe him.
He even added a lot of achievements just to make Jack look good in front of everyone.
Now more than ever Jack's ego had been boosted. He couldn't wait to take over the company and finally show everyone who is the boss.
"Everyone put your hands up for..." Jack started making his way up to the spotlight with his head and shoulders raised high.
"Josiah Griffon" Jack paused for a brief moment but convinced himself that they mistook his name.
But then he saw another figure already amid his father and the board members.
It was the same man from earlier. The one who Mabel unknowingly gawked at. The same one who acted all righteous.
Mabel was also shocked. She remembered Josiah's surname to be stone. How on earth did he become a Griffon.
She felt like a fool. She had previously told Josiah that she was going to be the future Mrs. Griffon. But how was she going to accomplish this if her fiance wasn't even going to be Mr. Griffon?
Both Mabel and Jack just stood there, after all their nagging, they were once again humiliated.
Jack looked at his father, He was busy looking at Josiah with pride and love. It was as if Jack didn't even exist to him.
Jack grabbed Mabel's hand and dragged her back to the balcony. Somewhere he can release his anger.
"Leave" He shouted at everyone present on the balcony and they all scurried away.
Even though he didn't get the position, he was still Griffon's son and that gave him power.
"Fuck" Jack used his leg to kick the wall out of anger.
"Jack, what is the meaning of all this?" Mabel demanded an explanation.
"Do you think I know?" Jack yelled at her and Mabel frowned.
" Who the hell is that fucker?" Jack asked.
" I don't know, he was the doctor that treated by injury at the grand hospital"
" Then why the hell is a fucking doctor taking my position and why does he bear my surname? I'm the only heir, me. No one else"
" Why don't you stop being a pussy and ask your father?. Yelling at me isn't going to get you answers"
" What did you call me?" Jack asked. He wasn't in the mood to overlook Mabel's insults.
"A fucking pussy" Mabel challenged him.
He was about to do something despicable to Mabel but unfortunately for all of us, his mother interrupted their little fight.
"Jack" she used both hands to cage his face in her palms.
Mrs. Griffon had been searching for her son as soon as Josiah was called out. She couldn't imagine how her poor son could be feeling.
"Who is he, Mother?" Jack asked.
"He is your father's illegitimate child"
"Father cheated you?"
"No, he had him before we got married"
"Why now? Why did he suddenly appear in my life and take everything from me?"
"I don't know Jack, everything will be fine. Don't worry too much" Mrs. Griffon tried to sympathize with her son.
He suddenly pushed her away from him.
"You did this right?" Jack gazed at her angrily.
"What are you talking about Jack?"
"You told me that if I left you that day, then you will take everything from me. You convinced him to give my position to that bastard, didn't you?" Jack blindly blamed his mother.
"Don't be silly Jack, you know that your mother can't do such a thing to you"
"Don't forget that I don't have a mother" Jack harshly spat out before turning around to leave.
Mrs. Griffon held unto his arm as if her life depended on it.
"Jack don't say such things, you know that I love you"
"Let go," Jack said sternly.
"Let's go talk to your father, okay. All this is just a big misunderstanding" Mrs. Griffon tried to explain to her son.
"I said leg go"
Jack roughly pulled his arm out of her grip causing her to fall back and hit her head on the floor. However, this didn't stop her.
She was lonely and missed her son. Her mind was set on making peace with him.
She grabbed his legs and begged him on her knees.
"Jack please, I have nothing to do with this I promise you"
Jack, however, didn't listen, he struggled to get his leg out of her grip, and when he realized he couldn't he kicked her chest and she started coughing and let go.
Jack didn't spare her another glance, he turned around to leave. Mabel looked at her one last time and smirked.
Mrs. Griffon did nothing but sit there and weep bitterly.
