CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT
The ride with Mabel and Ben was awfully quiet. Ben had a serious expression on his face, Mabel wouldn't dare to say a word. She knew that face too well. It was the side of Ben he never showed Lia, but it was Mabel's everyday breakfast.
Mabel watched the busy streets in awe, she saw a man carrying who looked to be his daughter on his back. She wondered what it would be like if her father acted that way toward her.
Ben drove into a street that was undeniably familiar to Mabel. She knew this place like as if it were engraved on the back of her palm. It was the path to the Griffon's residence. As they drove past the residence, Mabel wondered how Jack was doing. She had hoped that what she had done didn't affect him too much and that he had moved on.
Being locked up for a while, had caused her to reflect on her past actions.
Ben pulled up by the side of a huge fence, there was a gate but it looked like it wasn't the main gate. There were also about three guards watching the gate.
Ben took out his phone and then dialed someone's number.
"What?" Cynthia asked.
"It's time to carry out the plan, I need you to distract the guards," Ben said.
"What? Why?" Cynthia asked.
"If you want the plan to work then do as I say," Ben said with gritted teeth.
"How can I trust you when you wouldn't even tell me what your plan is?" Cynthia asked suspiciously.
"You will know soon enough, now stop being so impatient and do it" Ben commanded.
" Fine, but after all of this is over let us never have anything to do with each other again," Cynthia said and cut the call.
" Foolish woman," Ben said under his breath.
After some time the number of guards began to reduce until there was no one else standing near the gate.
" You know what to do," Ben said without glancing at Mabel.
With shaky hands, Mabel reached for the door handle but was stopped when Ben proceeded to speak.
" Remember, when you see her do not hesitate to shoot," Ben said.
" Why d...do I h...ave to kill L...Lia" Mabel stuttered earning her a harsh glare from Ben.
" For both of us to start over, Lia has to go. Don't forget that" Ben said.
" O... Ok," Mabel said.
" It might take a while before the girl comes out, but I will be here waiting for you to come back," Ben said.
Mabel flashed him a small smile before getting off the vehicle. Ben waited for some time after Mabel had entered and passed the gates before driving off. He had lied to Mabel. He had no intention of waiting for her, he had to get back home before Lia would wake up to no one else in the house.
Ben sped off unknowingly driving past the person he had been looking for, for so many years.
...
Some of Leo's men came into the house to meet Leo.
"Sir, we have a problem" One of the men spoke.
"What?" Leo said.
"There is a woman here, she keeps insisting to meet with you"
" Send her away," Leo said.
" We have tried sir, but she wouldn't budge. She said that you were the one who told her to meet you here"
" Then dispose of her," Leo said with a straight face.
" But sir, I think you might want to meet her," The guard said as he scratched his head. He said that because of the resemblance between the woman and the master's mistress.
" Why don't we just bring her in and see what all the fuss is about" Cynthia who had been sitting there spoke, not in agreement with Leo's idea.
The guard looked at Leo for permission to go through with what Cynthia had said. Leo gave a light nod and all the guards left.
Only one of them came back with the woman. As soon as he brought her to where Leo was he disappeared.
On seeing the woman Cynthia gasped and Leo was dumbfounded.
"Diana?" Cynthia said.
"Cynthia" Diana said back. She wasn't expecting to meet Cynthia here.
"God, where have you been?" Diana didn't want to explain to anyone where she had been these past years, so she did not attempt to answer Cynthia's question.
Diana's eyes wandered all over the place until they landed on a tall and handsome man. He looked young, if she had both her daughters with her then she would have simped for one of the girls to marry the man and give birth to beautiful children. Strangely enough, the man looked familiar and she felt as if she was supposed to know him.
Diana looked around once more. She was searching for the man who had found her, but he was nowhere to be seen.
"Where is he?" Diana asked.
"Who are you talking about?" Cynthia asked her.
" The owner of this house," Diana said.
" Liana, you are awake," Cynthia said and everyone's eyes turned to Liana who had just arrived in the room they were in.
Liana was rubbing her left eye with one of her hands. She stopped to look at the stranger and went closer to have a better look. The woman looked like her but she didn't like her. In Liana's mind, the woman probably came here to try to replace her big sister.
Diana smiled so lovingly at Liana and tried to reach for her but Liana quickly ran to Cynthia's side for protection. This made Diana frown. She then remembered what Mr. Black had told her about Liana not being able to recall anything before the accident, so Liana probably doesn't remember her.
"Where is he?" Diana asked again awkwardly from being rejected by her own daughter.
"I am the owner" Leo finally spoke.
Diana flinched on hearing Leo's voice. It was deep and it showed authority, He sounded scary and it was filled with dominance.
"That can't be right, you aren't the person I met before," Diana said.
"Who did you meet?" Cynthia asked her.
"He said his name was Mr... Black" Diana said.
And Lia let go of Cynthia's arm after hearing her brother's name come out of the strange woman's mouth, she went closer to Diana.
"That is my brother's name, do you know where he is?" Liana asked smiling.
"Say that again," Leo said as his anger was surfacing.
"Yes your brother," Diana said.
"Hold on, you are telling me that Mr. Black is your brother," Cynthia said just to make sure she heard correctly.
"Yes," Liana happily said.
"Gideon Black?" Cynthia said again and got the same response from Liana.
"There has to be a mistake, it's probably just another person," Cynthia said trying to laugh it off and convince herself.
"How does he look like?" Cynthia said and Diana began to describe the man from her memory, to Cynthia's surprise Mr. Black fit the description perfectly.
Leo had already heard enough. The painful realization that Mr. Black had betrayed him hit him like a brick. Leo began to angrily march away but Cynthia stopped him by grabbing his hand.
"Wait Leo, there has to be a reasonable explanation" Cynthia tried to reason with him.
"Leo?" Diana gasped and put a palm over her mouth. She never expected Leo to grow up so reserved, he was a lucky child back then.
"Let go," Leo said and roughly pulled his hand away.
"Wait," Diana said as he was about to walk away.
"He did hide her for a reason. It was because Lia was in danger it was the only way to protect her" Diana said.
"Where is Liana?" Cynthia asked looking around and then ***BOOM***, three gunshots were heard.
