Chapter Twenty Six

Jay:

I was talking with Vidya and she didn’t respond. I found her sleeping by leaning onto my shoulder. I smiled anx made her to sleep on the bed. I caressed her hairs.

I am sorry once again, sweetheart. I hurt you so much. I didn’t understand why didn’t you say that you took risk to save the nation. Till now I know that you are sweet, loving and caring. But today I understood that you are courageous and bold too.

I saw her lip where I bit to hurt her. I cursed myself and slowly touched her lip. Vidya woke up screaming.

"What?" Vidya said.

"I am sorry for disturbing your sleep. Is it still paining?" I said, feeling guilty.

"Just little bit. Don’t worry. It will be cured within two or three days."

I nodded, sighing for my stupidity.

"Jay, did you really forgive me?"

"Don’t talk. Take rest," I said.

"So still you are angry with me, isn’t it?"

"No, Vidya. Frankly, I feel guilty for my behaviour and unable to talk to you."

"So you forgave me? Am I right?"

"Nothing is there to forgive you, sweetheart. I am asusual stupid to hurt you unnecessarily."

Suddenly Vidya started screaming holding her stomach. I didn’t understand what happened.

"Vidya, what happened to you? Please, tell me. What's wrong with you?"

Vidya didn’t say anything and fell unconscious. I took her to the hospital immediately. The doctor checked her and gave her an injection.

"Mr.Jay, I want to tell you one important thing," the doctor said.

"Tell me, doctor. Is she fine? Is anything wrong?"

"Actually there is a complication. We are not sure whether she can become mother or not even in future."

No, it shouldn't happen. That's ok for me but Vidya can't take it. I love Vidya and for me, child is not that important.

"What?" I said.

"Yes. One more thing is I think you both got intimated. That's the reason for her stomachache. You should stay away from her till she recovers completely. But we can’t say how long. In the case of some patients, it may be lifelong too. Please take care. Otherwise, we can’t assure her being alive."

"Okay, doctor. Previous doctor didn't tell me to stay away from her. So, I don’t know about that. I will be careful from now. But please don’t say this to Vidya. She can’t bear if she comes to know that there are very little chances for her to become a mother."

"Sure, Mr. Jay. But let's see the reports tomorrow. Anyways we can’t hide it from her for long."

"Shall I take her home, doctor?"

"Yes, you can take her home but please take care of her diet and rest. She shouldn’t do any works because she is so weak."

I nodded and went to Vidya.

"What did doctor say?" Vidya said.

"Nothing. The doctor told that you are so weak. So, I should take care of you," I said, pretending as if everything is normal. How would Vidya react if she comes to know the truth?

"Why did I get severe stomachache all of a sudden?"

"It's just food poisoning."

"Nothing is serious, isn't it?"

"Yes, sweetheart. Everything is fine. Shall we go to our home?"

Vidya nodded and got down from the bed but walking with difficulty. She is so weak. I lifted her in my arms.

"Jay, what are you doing? Everyone are seeing us. What will they think? Put me down, please," Vidya said.

"Shut up. I am carrying my wife. I don’t mind about others. By the way, if you walk this slow, we will reach to our car tomorrow morning. I don’t have that much patience. That's why I lifted you in my arms not because of love for you," I said.

Vidya glared at me and averted her gaze from me to show that she's angry with me.

I took her to our car and she got inside the car. We reached home and again I lifted her to the room. I dropped her on the bed carefully.

"Look, from today you shouldn’t get out of this room. I will kill you if you don’t listen to my words. If you want anything, just tell me. But you shouldn’t get down. Do you understand?"

"Okay. Don’t shout."

"If I don’t shout, you don’t listen to me. You will not take care of you. It's better to make you listen to me by shouting rather than seeing your health deteriorating. Now shut up and sleep. I will bring juice for you," I said.

"Jay, When will Suhana and Shwetha will come here?"

"I forgot to tell you. Actually the doctor treating Kiran told that if Suhana stays with Kiran, he may remember his past soon. So she decided to stay there. As she is not well, Shwetha is also going to stay with them."

"What about Adi?"

"Adi took a room near to the hospital where your parents are admitted as it's near to his clg too. He will stay there until your parents recover. After that he will return to us. Karthi and Vikky are went to US for a few months. I mean till everything becomes normal. Now if you stop asking questions continuously, I will bring juice for my sweetheart."

Vidya nodded and I went from there. I sat on the sofa. My eyes filled with tears remembering that Vidya may not become mother forever.

How can I say this to you, Vidya? I can’t say this to you. Whatever it is, I won’t leave you. I will be with you taking care of you. I don’t want a baby or anything except you. I will not hurt you and will be more careful about you. I just want your happiness. I will do anything for you. I love you. I love you so much.

I saw Vidya coming down and wiped my tears.

"Why are you coming down? Stop there," I said. What if she falls unconscious again?

"I called you but you didn’t respond."

"I am sorry. what do you want?"

"You."

"What?"

"I feel so insecure. I want to be with you," Vidya said.

"Okay. You go to your room. I will come within five minutes."


Vidya went to the room and I brought juice to her. I sat beside her and Vidya held my hand tight, having the juice.

"What happened to you, sweetheart? Are you fine?"

"What did the doctor say? Did she say I can’t become mother?"

I got shocked listening to her. Does she hear our conversation?

"No, Nothing like that. Why do you think negatively all the time? She just said you are so weak. That's it."

"Then why are you so dull?"

"Because she told that you shouldn’t get upset. But I hurt you a lot. That's why I feel bad for my behaviour. That's it, nothing else."

"Thank God. I was so worried till now thinking like that. I know you love children a lot. I want to give a child who is same as you in everything.

"It will happen for sure. Don’t worry," I said, giving her a side hug and kiss on her forehead.

I didn’t allow her to do anything and I did all the works. Next day, I went to the hospital to take reports.

"It happened as we expected. She has very little chances to become a mother. We can’t assure you," the doctor said.

"Is there any treatment available, doctor?

"Vidya is not well and not in a position to take any treatment. Atleast for one year we can’t start any treatment. Anyways we are not sure about the success of the treatment too.

But first let her recover and then we can shall try it. Don’t leave her alone because she may faint at anytime. So someone must stay with her all the time."

"Okay, doctor. Thank you. I will take care of her."

I reached home and found the door locked. I unlocked it and called Vidya. But her mobile rang in the room itself. After one hour, she reached home.

"When did you come?" Vidya said.

"Where did you go?" I said seriously. She is so weak and I am worried about her. What if something happens to her.

"Why didn’t you call me?"

"Check your mobile."

Vidya checked her bag and didn’t find her mobile. She understood that she forgot the mobile at home. She looked at me as I am looking at her seriously.

"I am sorry, Jay."

I held her hand and took her to the room.

"I told you not to come out of the room. Where did you go without telling me? Why did you go? If you don’t change your behavior, then I will change the way I treat you. I think I should lock you inside the room, when I go out. You will never listen to me. If you faint…….."

"I am sorry," Vidya said.

"Shut up. Everytime you will do the same mistake and will say sorry. It became a habit for you."

"I went to see mom and dad. I miss them."

"I didn’t ask you not to visit them. But you can tell that to me. I will take you to that hospital."

"Please, stop scolding," Vidya said, pouting.

I looked at her and went to her. Vidya was scared of my anger. I remembered the doctor's advice that Vidya shouldn’t get stressed. I controlled myself and cupped her face.

"Ok. I am sorry for scolding you. But promise me that you will take care of your health and will never go anywhere alone until you recover completely."

"I promise you," Vidya said.

"Did you have anything?"

"No," Vidya said.

"I kept juice for you in the room. Why didn’t you drink it?"

"I am tired of drinking juice all the time."

"Tell me what do you want to eat?"

"Rice with paneer."


I made food for her and we both had it. One month passed by and I am treating her as a kid. I took care of her. I appointed the maids to take care of Vidya and didn’t allow her to do even a small work. But Vidya is unhappy and suspicious as I am staying away from her as per doctor’s advice which Vidya doesn't know till now. I came from the office and got fresh up.

"What are you doing, my sweetheart?How was the day?" I said.

I sat beside her and tried to hug her from side. Vidya got away from me.

"Is anything wrong, Vidya?" I said.

"Shall I ask you one thing?"

"Tell me."

"Do you still love me?" Vidya said.

"Of course, I love you. I love you forever. Why are you asking like that, sweetheart?"

"Then why are you......" Vidya stopped her words.

"What's your doubt? Ask me."

"Why are you staying away from me?" Vidya said.

I was drinking water and got cough hearing her question. I composed himself.

"When did I stay away from you, dear? I am always with you and even now I am with you, angel," I said trying to cool her.

"Stop jocking, Jay. I am serious," Vidya said.

"Ok but why are you serious?"

"You are not making love…….."

Vidya hesitated to complete her words.

"Nothing like that, Vidya. You are weak, so I am staying away from you. I just want you to recover fast," I said.

"From a month?? I am better now but even now you are staying away from me. I feel as if you are not loving me or you got attracted to someone else."

"Vidya, did you understand what are you talking?"

"Yes, I understand. Tell me, Jay, why are you avoiding me? Be frank. Even after saying that you forgave me, you are coming home very late. What does it mean? Do you have affair with anyone else or your love for me reduced? or are you still angry with me?"

I controlled my anger as I shouldn’t hurt her. I know the reason and for now, only her health is important to me. I don't mind her accusations.

"Take rest, Vidya. Don’t worry too much. Your doubts are so stupid. I love you and only you," I said and left the room. I went downstairs and sat on a sofa.

Vidya, how could you doubt me? I am staying away because you are more important to me. If I come close to you, it hurts you. How can I say this to you?

I went to the room after sometime and saw Vidya crying. I sat near her and hugged her from the side. I caressed her hairs.

"Don’t cry. I am not avoiding you. I don’t have an affair with anyone, dear. I love you so much. Love doesn’t mean just getting intimated. It means taking care of one another. First you take care of your health and leave the rest."

"I am sorry for talking like that," Vidya said.

I didn’t speak anything.

"Are you angry at me?"

"I am upset, Vidya. How could you doubt my character? Don’t you know about me?"

"I am sorry," Vidya said asusual.

"Sorry alone won’t work. If it's coupled with a kiss then it may work."

Vidya smiled listening to me and kissed me him on the cheek.

"Still do you have any doubts about me?"

"I love you."

"I love you too," I said.

Vidya didn’t say anything and went into a deep thinking suddenly.

"What are you thinking now?" I said.

"Nothing," Vidya said.

"Did you have the dinner?"

"Not yet," Vidya said.

"Come, let's have the dinner and then take a rest."

Vidya nodded. We had the dinner and came to the room. Vidya slept hugging me. I held her in my arms and then looked at her innocent face. I wish the truth won't break her heart. I love you, Vidya. I too slept after sometime staring at Vidya’s beautiful face.
