Epilogue
*Three Months Later*
***Alpha Ethan***
With my hand splaying on my Little Dove’s rounded belly, I lock eyes with Christine’s mate, one of the three doctors in my pack. “You’re sure?”
I can tell he wants to scowl but hold himself. “As I told you in every appointment before, yes, Alpha. I’m sure.”
“Ethan!” my mate squeezes my forearm. “Elijah wouldn’t say me and the baby were fine if we weren’t actually fine.” She rolls her adorable meadow green eyes and glances down, resting on the exam table.
“You’re in the middle of your pregnancy—”
“Oh God, you’re exhausting me! We are fine. I actually felt a lot more nausea during Az’s pregnancy.”
“You still need to rest.”
“This again?” Little Dove narrows her eyes at me angrily.
This morning, she bent down to pick up one of the new toys to put on the shelf in the baby’s room. But, of course, I grabbed it first—just like I had with every other thing she tried to pick up off the floor. And that was it. She snapped. Called me *infuriating*.
But in my defense, I *genuinely* think those things are too heavy for her to be lifting. However, when I told her that, she shot me the flattest look imaginable and deadpanned, saying that even the baby in my belly could lift that toy.
She is too fucking precious to me. Can’t my Little Dove see I was just being cautious?
I cross my arms over my chest. My fated mate is three months pregnant, and considering what she said that had happened when she’d gone into labor with Az, I am not taking any chances. She can complain with every breath that I’m being overprotective or infuriating.
It wouldn’t make me change.
I’ve been like this since the day I felt that her scent had changed.
“Today, we would like to know if it’s a boy or a girl.”
Without even needing to check, Elijah looks at us both with a smile on his face, relieved by the change of subject. In the last few appointments, I didn’t want to know, but yesterday, we talked, and neither of us could wait anymore. “It’s a girl.”
My mouth drops open, and my eyes find my mate. Her eyes are wide open. “Oh, God! Really?”
“Yes, you see it here,” Elijah says, pointing to the screen. He starts to explain, but I can’t think of anything else right now. I can’t hear anything. Kral’s howling with joy in my mind.
I’m having a baby girl!
“I already have a name option,” I tell her, unable to contain my smile after Elijah congratulates us and then leaves to fill out some paperwork. “Ava.” I’ve been thinking about this name ever since I found out she was pregnant.
My Little Dove starts to cry, and I get out of my head to focus on her. “What’s wrong? Are you tired? Do you need to go to the hospital in Summerville? I knew you should be resting!”
“It-it isn’t that...”
“What’s wrong, baby?”
“It’s Ava...”
“What’s wrong? You didn’t like the name? We can change it, love, don’t cry.” Absentmindedly, I caress her belly with one hand and dry her tears with the other.
“Remember the dream I told you about our daughter?” She asks, and I nod. “Her name was Ava!”
*Oh*. Cedar said she could have glimpses of the future and that they could come through dreams. That day at the surprise picnic that Az and I threw for her, she said she had dreamed about our daughter, that she had seen her entire future. My Little Dove’s powers were blossoming, and we didn’t even realize it at that time.
“I’m going to meet her! She exists!” Little Dove strokes her rounded belly. “Oh, Ava. I’ve loved you ever since I dreamed about you!” she says. “I can’t wait to meet you!”
“Well, not everything you dreamed about will happen, love.”
“What do you mean?”
“You said she met her fated mate on her first day of work. But see? Not everything is going to happen since she wouldn’t be allowed to date until she’s fifty.”
She rolls her teary eyes at me. “Wait... You look kind of serious.”
“That’s because I’m serious.”
“I didn’t tell you everything, but she was pregnant—”
“I don’t want to hear. If that happens, it’d be an immaculate conception.”
“Good Lord!” She wipes her tears away, shaking her head. At least she's not crying anymore.
“I won’t believe anything else, Little Dove.”
“You’re utterly insane sometimes.”
Reaching out, I cup her chin with my hand. “You’re so beautiful.”
Blushing, she lowers her gaze from mine. “I’m not. I’m big!”
“You are. You’re beautiful and precious and fucking mine.”
She sniffles, her eyes rising to mine. “You’re insane, but I love you.”
I lift her off the table, carrying her in my arms out of the room after I sear her mouth in a kiss so blistering it has me wanting to tear off her floral dress.
Later, I carry her back to our bedroom and gently settle her in bed.
I still can’t believe I’m having another kid! A little girl!
So, this is what a fated mate means?
This is what love is?
This overwhelming need to be with my Little Dove, to keep her safe, to never want to imagine my life without her.
This feels right.
I feel deep, grounding happiness; different from all those years I spent cursed and numb.
But now, with my Little Dove by my side, *my heart feels so full*, it might explode.
***The End!***
