Chapter 6
My heart froze in my chest. Stopped beating.
Chelsea’s eyes bore into mine. Her eyes are filled with such sinister gleam, as if she took pleasure in my reaction. My suffering.
My ears throb with the sound of my own blood rushing as the edges of my vision darken, and I force my lungs to keep working. But it still feels as though there is a blockage clogging my throat, preventing the oxygen from entering.
“He can’t do this!” I say, breathless. “He can’t do this to me!”
Out of the corner of my eye, I notice that Az is approaching. As soon as he catches a glimpse of Chel standing at the door, his face immediately contorts into a scowl, and in return, she greets him by waving her fingers while giving him the exact same wicked smirk she had previously given me. I promptly close the door behind me to protect him from her menacing gaze as I block her view of him.
“Not only is Lolo capable of doing it, but he has also already done it!” Chel says as she directs her gaze towards me, narrowing her eyes. “Sign it right now, Alicent! I’m not leaving this shitty place until I’m sure you don’t have anything else attached to him!”
“Chel—” I make a conscious effort to stop myself from calling her nickname, clearing my throat. “Chelsea,” I look directly at her after I blink forcefully, struggling to maintain control over my anger. “Logan and I will always be connected because of Az. We’re his parents! It doesn’t matter if I divorce him or not. Besides, I’m not ready to sign the divorce documents. It might seem new to you, but not everything happens when you want! I need to contact a lawyer first!”
I can’t stop using Logan’s last name right now. It’s too dangerous.
Fuck me! Logan is aware of how this single thing is important to me, even though he doesn’t know why.
I can’t believe he’s doing this to me! And, what for? Whether I continue with his last name or not, it will not alter anything in his life! Seriously, it seems to me that he is doing this on purpose just to hurt me. What the heck does he gain from all of this, for God’s sake?
“You can barely pay the rent for this shitty place!” As she crunches around her nose, she raises her chin and disgustingly points directly at my apartment door behind me. “Wake up, Alicent! Do you really think you can afford a lawyer? Really? Lolo—”
“Stop calling him that!” I abruptly interrupt her, the tone of my voice almost resembling a snarl. “That is the stupidest nickname I’ve ever heard!”
I just can’t hear her calling Logan like that. He was my faithful husband just a couple of days ago.
“You stupid bitch! I’ll call my future fiancé whatever I want! Sign those fucking documents right now!”
Her small steps grow heavier and more aggressive as she threateningly approaches me. She’s wearing high heels, the same color as her dress. I can’t help but notice the redness on her foot; her high heels are probably hurting her foot, not that that’s the most important thing for me to focus on right now.
Chelsea goes on and takes a step further, issuing threats towards me. “Don’t forget that my father is your boss, Alicent! I don’t even need to call him. I can easily get your ass fired with just one message to him!” Despite wanting to retort, I swallow all my words and let her continue speaking because I really need my work, and I know she is really capable of doing that. “Unlike you,” Her eyes travel up and down my body, she is so close to me that the scent of grape candy wafts from her breath and fills my senses. “I’ve got a solid family that is always there for me whenever I need it. I’m not a nobody, Alicent. You know that very well.”
She takes a long step back from me as if she believes that getting closer to me would somehow result in her contracting the so-called HPV she was scared of, and I cannot help but speak my mind. “If you think so highly of yourself, I’m curious to know, why are you with Logan? What kind of relationship do you expect to have with him? You know he hasn’t worked in forever, right?” I ask, narrowing my eyes. But she acts like she doesn’t hear my questions while she slings her purse over her shoulder. “You do know I’m the one footing the house bills, right? Logan can’t afford to keep up with your expensive taste, Chelsea,” I say, looking at her fancy purse.
However, much to my surprise, she opens a huge smirk. “Poor Alicent. So deluded! You really are a stupid person, aren’t you?” Her hands clap together, and then she tilts her head to the side. “You guys were married for ten fucking years, and you don’t even know your husband!” She tsks with her tongue as if she knows something I don’t. Well, probably because she does.
“What do you mean by that?” I ask. My confusion is evident in my voice as I tightly clutch the divorce papers in my hand. My body is trembling and heating up with an anger that I’ve never felt before. I’m pissed off about everything Logan has done and all the shit he’s probably been hiding from me. And it really hurts that he and Chelsea couldn’t care less about how I feel.
“Logan might be broke, but he knows people who will be useful to me. People that your tiny brain can’t grasp. Do you really want to know what I think? I think you deserve everything that has happened to you. You are so dumb! I’ve been fucking Logan for years, and you only found out now! You deserve it! This is for you to smarten up and stop being so fucking stupid—”
*Slap!*
I interrupt her, giving Chelsea a hard smack in the face!
