60 - THE DREAM INVADER

Fat juicy goosebumps under the trails of his touch, distractingly painful yet so enticing. I squirmed as his tongue traveled from lips, down my neck and camping at the intricate curves of my waist. His hot breath formed a mist at the painful spots he had bitten and I curled my toes and bit my lips together. It was dark, I could barely see his face but I recognize his touch even from the dead of my sleep. It instantly lights me up, sets me on an all consuming fire that ignites my soul and through out my entire being. I gripped me hair and anchoring him even closer to me, because I needed the warmth of his skin warming the iciness out of mine.

A bite here and there, caressed by wet kisses that drew a pool in between my legs even in the surrealness of this or whatever dream I had now strangely found myself because there was no way it was Kyle. There was no way that he smelled like butter and cream – or wait was it chicken? Why do I suddenly smell fry chicken? Immediately, my eyes popped open and struggled to focus my vision. I sighed deeply turning to the sound to find Shawn but the bed was empty and there was the strange but now very familiar sound of clanging of pot. Okay that explains the fried chicken I smell.
I hopped out of the bed and wrapping my bathrobe around me to ward off the cold and I tiptoed to kitchen to find Shawn now deep frying chicken, it was barely seven in the morning.

“You’ve been cooking a lot lately” I said in my still raspy voice as I walked over to pour myself a cup from the freshly brewed pot of coffee. Unconsciously and because my mind was endlessly replaying excerpts from my sultry dream, I touched the bottom part of my ceramic mug and it burned me instantly, causing the cup to drop from my hands and shattering on the floor, immediately I pulled back to avoid the scalding liquid from burning my hands but my reflexes weren’t quick enough and I felt the scalding pain envelope my hands.

“Shit!” I cursed out loudly just as Shawn was now running towards me in horror

“Are you okay? Shit!”

“No goddamn it, I just burned my fucking hands” I said to him, irritated from the burning sensation that seemed to intensify every passing second. Immediately, Shawn pulled me away from the mess I had caused over to the sink.

“You have to be more careful babe”

I paused, a certain anger now enveloping alongside with the radiating pain and I shot him an irritated look “I am careful” I snapped and his eye brows lit in surprise at my snappy tone, but he kept his expressions light as if cradling to the anger that was slowly burning inside me. Why did I feel so annoyed with him in that moment, he did nothing to me except wake up at the crack of dawn to fry me chicken while I slept soundly on my bed dreaming about the man that emanated the deepest and darkest desires from my soul. Why did Kyle have to come all the way to haunt me in my dreams?

I pulled my hands away from Shawn “I’m fine”

He stopped me “You’re not – ”

“I am trust me, I need to get ready for work. It’s my first day back since you know – ”

“And you want to show up with a scalded hand, how interesting” he sneered at me, and this wasn’t a poor attempt to be funny, he was trying to annoy me and I could sense it the annoying sarcasm in his voice.

“Don’t be smart be with me” I shot at him and he fired back instantly “Why wouldn’t you let me help you”

“I don’t need help! I don’t need to be cradled by you all the time Shawn”

“What the hell do you mean by that? You burned your hand and I’m trying to fucking help”

“I said I don’t fucking need it!!” I yelled, my voice raised higher than the intended octave. I whipped around and stormed back into the bedroom.

I got ready for work in a huff and being annoying on purpose while Shawn side-eyed from the corner, as he equally got ready for work but strategically avoiding all the corners that I seemed to be rotating at. I hailed a cab and while I rode to work, my phone chimed with a text and it was from Sam.

“Just rsvp’d the engagement dinner, it’s going to be so much fun” ugh, I rolled my eyes and threw my phone back into my handbag. With the burning pain in my hand, and the irritability of having Kyle invade my dreams without my permission, the last thing I wanted to hear was about no engagement party.

Then the phone chimed again and I groaned, thinking it was Sam gushing again about my engagement, and I pulled it out, it wasn’t Sam – it was Kyle.

“See you at work Aria.”

My heart instantly picked up and a strange excitement filled my belly. I held the phone tighter, my brain racking for something nonchalant and indifferent to say but nothing came forth. Just then, the taxi arrived at the company and just when the taxi zoomed off, a BMW sped up in front of me – Kyle’s BMW.

I walked nearly passenger’s side just as he rolled down and looked at me “Get in”

There was the rapid heart beat again and I looked at him – at his delicious eyes that stared back at me causing that same excitement that rumbled in my stomach. I held his gaze lovingly even though my entire system shook with nervous, how does he always manage to evoke such feelings from me, after all these years, how was it still possible.

“Where are you going?” I asked him a bit playfully.

“I want to show you something, it’s important that we see this together.

My heart leaped even further as I slid into his car, his familiar scent immediately attacking my phone. He held a special glint in his eyes and it intrigued me, whatever it was that caused that glint.

“Seat belt on baby, it’s pretty fast and we’re going far”
