Chapter 24
Cyn’s POV
It’s been days since I’ve seen Tucker. He vanished into thin air. He hasn’t been to his grandmother’s house or school and he’s not answering his cell phone. Where are you Tucker?
“I have news.” Alex said as he wrapped an arm around my shoulders. He’s been so touchy lately and sadly I’ve been getting used to it.
“What?” I asked exasperated.
“I found out where Tucker went.” He whispered into my ear. I gaped at him, “what? Where?”
“Now baby, you’re making me jealous. You two are just friends, right?” He said.
“Yes, you made sure of that.” I grumbled. He smiled, pleased with himself. “Anyway, he found his mate. They ran off together. I guess he couldn’t face you after they found each other.”
I stopped in my tracks in the middle of the school hall and faced Alex, searching his eyes for deceit. “You’re lying.” I breathed out.
“No baby, I’m afraid not. He left you.”
Tears streamed down my face as I let his words process. Could what he’s saying be true? Alex squeezed my shoulder, bringing me back to the present. He cupped my face and looked into my eyes. “Tell me what I have to do to win you back.” He whispered sincerely. I turned my head away from him. “I don’t know.” I answered honestly.
He closed his eyes and breathed out, his minty breath hitting my nose and making it twitch. I pulled away from his grasp and kept walking to my next class. Alex caught up to me and tried to intertwine his fingers with mine but I pulled away, unwilling to keep feeling the sparks from all the touching he’s been doing lately.
“Don’t you have any whores you can go bother?” I asked haughtily.
He grumbled, “no. I’m done with whores, I just want you.”
“It doesn’t matter, it’s too late for us.” I told him. We finally reached the classroom and I took my seat next to Helena. Alex took his favorite spot behind me and began twirling my hair in his fingers. I wanted to groan but didn’t want to encourage him further. I never know what will trigger him anymore. I can’t believe he used to be my best friend. Things have become so messed up.
Is what Alex said true though? Did Tucker find his mate and leave? I wish I could contact him and find out. I would be incredibly hurt but I would’ve understood if he talked to me about it. I personally know how hard it is to resist.
The class seemed to last forever and then finally the bell rang, dismissing us for the day. I jumped up from my seat and gathered my things before rushing out the door.
“Hey Cyn!” I hear Josh call from behind me. I turn with a smile and he immediately picks me up for a hug and spins me around. When he lets me down, I slap his arm and grin. “Ready to head home Cyn?”
“After you Joshie.” I tell him as I hook my arm in his.
We walk together to his car and as I get into the passenger seat I feel eyes on me. I turn and see Alex glaring at us. I shiver and turn away.
“You okay?” Josh asked with concern in his voice.
“Yeah. I’m fine.” I answer while looking out the window on the ride to the house. I feel my phone vibrate and I pull it out of my pocket.
Alex: we need to get together to work on our project
Me: we can work on it during school
Alex: stop being stubborn and come by the pack house, we can work on it there
I put my phone away and we shortly arrived at Josh’s house. Things with Josh and I are better than ever, he’s been a wonderful friend. When we go inside we head straight for his room.
“Hey, Josh?” I weakly asked.
“What’s the matter?”
“Do you think Tucker ran away with his mate? That’s what Alex told me.”
“I think he’s full of it.” He said as he approached me and tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear. “How much longer do you think he’ll be gone? Do you think he’s okay?” I asked him.
“I don’t know Cyn, I’m so sorry.” He hugged me as I cried into his arms.
3 months passed and still no sign of Tucker. The days have grown weary and long and I’m on the verge of losing hope that he’ll return.
“Cheer up girly, I’m sure he’ll be back soon.” Helena tried to comfort me but it was no use. I was tired of everyone trying to cheer me up constantly, I’m just tired of it all. I walked to lunch with her and sat down. Matty has been sitting with us everyday and he looks like he’s seen better days.
“No word?” I asked him. He shook his head, shattering the last of my hope into bitter pieces.
I withheld my tears this time and picked at my food. Alex has been relentless every day in trying to get me back and it’s driving me up the wall. I still haven’t forgiven him for everything he’s done and there’s a chance I never will.
After school I’m sitting in Josh’s room with him and we’re just chatting about anything and everything.
“Thank you Josh.” I told him as I lay back on his bed.
“For what Cyn?” He asked curiously.
“Being here for me. I don’t know what I would’ve done without you all this time. You give me hope.” I told him honestly. He laid down next to me and played with my hair, “I’ll always be here for you, okay?”
“Okay.” I whisper back.
We end up cuddling to sleep and when I wake up the next morning, I realize it’s the best sleep I’ve had in months. I tried to stretch but realized I was being held down by a cool and heavy arm.
“Josh.” I whisper. I tried shoving at his shoulder but he kept on sleeping. As I try to move I feel his arm wrap even tighter around my waist and it pulled me flush against him. I could feel his hardness against my butt and I stiffened before I started trying to wiggle out of his grasp.
“Mmm,” I hear him groaning from behind me. “Cyn baby, stop wiggling.” He squeezed me tighter before finally letting go. I hopped out of the bed and ran to the bathroom to do my business before brushing my teeth and heading back into the room. I grabbed a light blue dress and some black low heels to wear for the day before I brushed my hair and put it up into a high ponytail.
“You look beautiful, as always.” Josh complimented me. I blushed and muttered a thank you.
Josh was dressed in a pair of tight black jeans and a fitted white shirt, showing off his thick arms. I turned even more red when I remembered the position we were in this morning.
“I think what you need is some fun.” He exclaimed suddenly. “Hmm?” I questioned.
“Let’s go a couple towns over and go dancing. You’re 18 right? We can go into the clubs there.” He said excitedly.
“I’m not so sure.”
“Oh come on Cyn, you need to let loose and forget about everything for a bit, don’t you think? What have you got to lose?”
What do I have to lose? Absolutely nothing.
