He is getting worse
Becky's P.O.V
“Yelling at things that aren't really there won't do any good for anyone” Jake said as he moved in front of us to interrupt. “We need to deal with this situation in a calm and collected manner. If we start panicking and making wild guesses it will only frighten the rest of the pack.”
“Who are we trying to protect?” Brian responded with a hint of anger in his voice. “Karl is an Alpha which means he holds a very important position in our pack! His life is far more valuable to us than—”
“That's enough!” Alpha Rian's booming voice echoed through the room once more causing everyone to fall silent. He turned his attention to Becky and continued “Becky I truly value your opinion in this situation. You have spent some time with Karl and I was wondering if you might have any thoughts or insights on who could possibly want to cause him harm?”
I gently shook my head from side to side fully aware of how heavy their eyes felt on me watching closely. I took a deep breath and replied “Well to be honest I’m not completely certain about the situation. He is indeed a strong individual with a lot of power and influence but the truth is that there are always people out there who want to seek that power for themselves. Because of his strength and the kind of person he is he has made quite a few enemies particularly among other rival packs. This could create trouble for him.”
“Brian let out a scoff and said 'That's really an understatement.'“
“Brian please for the love of the Moon I really need you to stop right now!” Jake said sharply his fists tightly clenched at his sides. “This is not the right moment for making accusations or pointing fingers at each other!”
“No it is very obvious that we need to include Becky in this situation” Brian said with a mocking tone. “And we all remember just how useful she has been for us in the past.”
“Please be quiet Brian!” Rian shouted feeling extremely frustrated. “This arguing isn’t helping anyone at all. What we really need is a solid plan and it’s very important that we keep this information to ourselves. The last thing we want to happen is for panic to spread among the pack. At this moment the healer named Sage is busy trying to create a cure. We absolutely do not need to tell anyone about this—no one at all.”
Brian exclaimed in disbelief “You really can’t be serious right now! The entire pack absolutely has the right to know about the danger that we are currently facing! If we keep this information a secret and don’t share it with everyone it will only increase the risks we are all facing!”
“Are we talking about risk or are we talking about speculation?” Jake asked raising a challenge. “What benefit do you think comes from telling everyone about this? I believe it would only result in chaos and that chaos could end up putting even more lives in danger.”
The room was filled with a lot of loud talking and intense conversations and I felt overwhelmed as if my mind was spinning around. I decided to speak up and said “Can we all just take a moment to pause and breathe?” My voice came out louder than I intended because it was a natural reaction for me to raise it in heated situations.
I turned to Brian and said “I completely get that you are feeling anxious and concerned about this situation but at this point it would be much more beneficial for all of us if we could calmly think through our ideas and feelings rather than pointing fingers and blaming each other.”
“Being rational and thinking logically doesn’t really make a difference when someone’s life especially that of the Alpha is in danger!”
Brian shot back at me his eyes narrowing with intensity. He was clearly very upset and I could feel the waves of his anger almost washing over me.
“That's enough!” Alpha Rian said again his voice strong and steady. “We cannot have any more arguments! This situation is very delicate and we must be very careful with the words we use.”
“But if we keep it a secret and don't talk about it that could be very risky Rian!” Brian said strongly crossing his arms tightly. “How are we supposed to protect ourselves if we don't really understand what the danger is?”
The atmosphere in the room was filled with a quiet unspoken tension. I noticed the way Rian’s jaw clenched tightly which indicated that he was feeling stressed or upset.
He paused for a brief moment taking his time to look carefully at both Jake and Brian. It seemed like he was being very cautious and considering his words carefully before saying anything.
Rian finally spoke up keeping his voice quiet as he said “It’s really important for us to concentrate on collecting as much information as we can. We should be careful and take all the necessary precautions but we need to do it in a way that doesn’t attract too much attention. At this moment our main goal is to get to the bottom of this situation—figure out exactly how the poisoning occurred. Once we have that information we will be able to figure out what we should do next.”
Brian was just about to speak up and protest once more when all of a sudden the door burst open with a sense of urgency. A guard hurried into the room and it was clear from his expression that he was very afraid his face was noticeably pale.
The guard clearly out of breath and filled with urgency called out “Alpha Rian! I need your help! Please hurry and come here quickly!”
The air felt tense and filled with fear as everyone around us quickly turned their eyes toward the guard. “What is happening?” Rian shouted loudly eager to know more as he stepped closer to get a better view.
“It’s Alpha Karl” the guard said his voice trembling slightly. “He is getting worse very quickly. Sage is unable to make him stable” he continued clearly showing how urgent and serious the situation was.
Rian’s face lost all of its color and for a brief moment he appeared unsure and uncertain about what to do. He then firmly instructed us by saying “We need to leave right now” as he turned to look at all of us…
