Worried

Karl's P.O.V

What I noticed in Jessy's eyes really disturbed me. I could see that she felt frustrated but there was something deeper there—she looked genuinely hurt.

After a moment of silence she asked me in a soft voice “So is it true that you only see me as a way to get what you want?”

I pressed my teeth tightly together because I felt a lot of pressure from the decisions I had made.

I turned to her and said “I view you as a very strong and important partner. I believe that you will help make our group even stronger.”

“Ally.” she repeated slowly her voice filled with bitterness. “Is that really all I mean to you? Am I just a part of your plan or a strategy for you?”

I took a deep breath and felt a tightness in my throat. The atmosphere inside the car felt charged almost like the air was buzzing with electricity.

It was really hard to breathe because the silence was so thick filled with all the things we weren’t talking about.

“Jessy you understand what this situation really means right? You were completely aware of how serious everything was when you decided to go along with this deal.”

“Arrangement?” she said her voice sounding tense and strained.

“You were so busy thinking about Becky that you didn’t even notice what I was doing. I was out there looking for dangers and making sure our group was safe from any threats. I risked my own safety and well-being and yet all you think of me as is just a part of a strategy.”

I felt like I had to question her about her actions. So I said to her “If you didn’t mean any harm then why were you going through my things and looking into this? What were you thinking when you decided to use strategies that could put both of us in a dangerous position? Did you actually think that I would never discover what you were doing?”

Her eyes shone brightly with a sense of defiance reflecting the strong feelings I had inside me.

“I was doing what I thought was right! Do you really believe that I want to just sit quietly and be the perfect bride? This situation isn't just about the two of us it’s about the future of our entire pack!”

“Then you need to stop treating the other wolves as if they are just pieces on a chessboard!” I said sharply my voice getting louder as I spoke.

“Becky is not just another pawn in this game we are playing!”

“She is someone who plays a very important role! Being a Whitewolf has always been significant!” Jessy shot back at me her voice loud and matching my anger.

“You cannot ignore this fact just because you have some feelings that you haven’t dealt with yet!”

I quickly brought my hand down hard on the horn and the loud noise it made cut through the quiet air around me like a sharp knife. “That's enough!” I shouted.

She flinched at my words and her reaction was more intense than I had expected. Even so the look in her eyes was strong and determined.

“Do you really believe that I don’t care at all? That I’m just playing a role while you sit around feeling sad about someone who is no longer here? I really thought you wanted to keep your pack safe but it seems that all you can focus on is her—”

“I can clearly see a group of individuals that really needs to come together!” I exclaimed loudly feeling my heart beating fast within my chest.

“This group truly needs strong and capable leadership in order to thrive and succeed. However if you continue to challenge or question the decisions I make I may have to reconsider what role you will have in this whole situation!”

“Alright then! Perhaps you should really consider changing your attitude if you believe that this way of acting will make me change my mind and agree with you!”

Inside the car the atmosphere became dense with our unspoken emotions. The weight of the silence made our heavy breathing feel even more pronounced reminding us of the argument we had just experienced.

I could feel frustration building up inside me but there was also a persistent feeling of regret lurking beneath the surface. We really needed to figure out how to cooperate and work as a team because there was no alternative for us.

However the memories of our past messy and difficult to navigate wrapped around my determination like a tight coil making it hard for me to stay focused and strong.

As we fell into quiet the view outside the window turned into a blurry smear of trees moving quickly by us.

The light outside was fading and couldn't reach through the storm of feelings that was building up between us.

It felt like the road was going on endlessly and the tightness in my chest from feeling anxious was a constant reminder of how far apart we really were.

At long last we arrived at the place I knew so well which is called Silverfang. I relaxed my hold on the steering wheel just a little bit but I could still feel the heaviness of the tension that had not been resolved.

Ahead of us stood the pack house a stronghold that seemed to stand against the dark shadows surrounding it. However even as we got closer I couldn't shake the feeling that the distance between Jessy and me was getting larger and larger.

I parked the car and was about to open the door to step out when suddenly a guard came toward us. He was holding a letter in his hand and an uneasy expression crossed his face as he approached.

“Alpha this has just come in” he said to me while nervously handing it over.

I could see that he was a bit uneasy and worried about what he was giving me…
