Worry

Becky's P.O.V

Rian moved in a little closer to Jessy and you could see how angry he was from the look on his face. He said “Jessy what happened here was not just a small disagreement it was something much more serious—an act of war. Do you really believe that I would not have let your man go if he had any important information to share?”

I could sense the loud and chaotic emotions of anger and fear building up all around us. It was clear to me that both Rian and Jessy had good reasons for feeling the way they did.

I realized that I had to do something quickly before the situation got even worse. So I took a deep breath and called out to Rian stepping closer to him but moving a little slowly feeling very nervous.

My heart was beating hard in my chest. “Rian!” I shouted trying to get his attention. “Things are getting completely out of hand. We really need to—”

“Becky please don’t get involved in this situation.” Rian said sharply his intense gaze meeting mine for just a brief moment before he redirected his attention back to Jessy.

“You are the one who is to blame for what has happened here.”

Jessy took a step closer to Rian narrowing the distance between them so that their faces were just a few inches apart. With a sharp tone she responded

“You are the one allowing your feelings to cloud your ability to think clearly and make good decisions. If I had really wanted to send someone to spy on you I definitely wouldn't have chosen someone so incompetent and foolish.”

The atmosphere around us became more and more tense almost like you could feel it weighing down on us. After a moment of hesitation Karl decided to take a step forward wanting to change the situation and break the stalemate between us.

He looked directly at Rian and said “Rian come on let's not pretend that we are both shocked or surprised by what is happening right now. Deep down we both understand that situations like this are not unusual in the kind of work that we do.”

Rian looked at Karl with a completely shocked expression on his face. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

“Are you really taking her side? Do you actually support her actions which include murder?”

“She got rid of a problem.” Karl said strongly backing up Jessy’s choice but lowering his voice to keep things calm. “We can’t take chances when we’re all fighting for control.”

“Competition?” Rian said with a sarcastic laugh. “This is not just a game that we are playing!”

“Don't you think so?” Karl asked as he crossed his arms in front of him looking quite serious.

“Sure Jessy can be really tough and even a bit harsh at times but you can always count on her to follow through on what she says. When you're dealing with these unpredictable and ever-changing situations it's important to understand the way things work and how people operate.”

My heart felt like it was beating really hard against my chest as I listened to their voices getting louder and more intense.

The atmosphere around us felt thick with tension almost like it was filled with electricity. I couldn’t hold back any longer so I blurted out my thoughts.

“Listen this isn’t just a matter of who has more power.” I said wanting to make my point clear. I needed them to truly understand what I was trying to say. “What really matters here is loyalty. You are meant to look out for your own people and protect them.”

However my words were completely lost in the overwhelming turmoil that was growing around us. Jessy looked at Rian with a knowing smirk and it was easy to see that there was a lot of tension between them.

“Let’s be honest and realistic here. You and I are not really that different are we Alpha? We both know very well what we have to do and the extreme measures we have to take to protect our packs.”

Rian’s eyes grew darker filled with intense anger and I could sense the rising tension between us. It felt like a storm was getting ready to break and I was afraid of what might happen next.

My heart was racing and I could feel my fear growing stronger. “I would never act in such a cruel and heartless way.” he said in a low growling voice. “And you Jessy are someone who lacks any sense of honor.”

“And you Rian.” Jessy replied interrupting him sharply “are being very naive if you believe that staying innocent and keeping your hands clean will keep you safe. The world of Alphas is extremely harsh and unforgiving. You really need to learn how to adapt to it.”

Rian's breath caught in his throat and he couldn’t take his eyes off Jessy staring at her with a look that was intense and unyielding.

“I think it would be best for you to go now before I call for the others.” he warned in a voice that was quiet but filled with menace struggling to keep his anger in check.

Jessy lifted her eyebrow a little showing that she was surprised or skeptical. She then looked over at Karl for a moment and he responded with a very small nod. It was so small that you would almost miss it if you weren't paying attention.

“Alright we will be on our way now.” she said sounding as if she didn't really care much about the situation.

“But just so you know Rian when it comes to politics regarding packing and how things are organized it's never really straightforward or easy.”

With a dramatic gesture she carefully put her dagger back into its protective case and then turned her body around beginning to walk away from the scene.

Karl quickly caught up with her matching her pace as he walked beside her. Before fully leaving he glanced back over his shoulder at Rian with a look that seemed almost challenging or bold as if he was not intimidated at all.

After that quick moment he turned his attention back to Jessy and continued to follow her.

I stood there completely still unable to move or think clearly. The words they had just said kept repeating in my head as if they were bouncing around like a stormy wind.

Inside me there was a whirlwind of feelings building up. I felt really angry scared and an overwhelming sense of helplessness that made it hard for me to breathe.

As Jessy and Karl walked away I couldn't take my eyes off Rian. He looked big and intimidating filled with anger but at the same time it seemed like he was deep in his own thoughts lost somewhere far away.

“Alpha Rian” I murmured moving nearer a sense of urgency driving my need for answers. “What’s our next move?”

He turned to face me his shoulders tense and stiff and his eyes were filled with a storm of mixed emotions. “We really need to make the security around the pack much stronger. You are in serious danger Becky.”

His words were filled with worry and care for my safety and I felt a cold realization settle in me I understood that the events of this day were just starting to unfold and things were going to get complicated…
