Approaching Danger

Becky's P.O.V

As soon as Brian entered the room I could sense an intense feeling of anger and frustration in the air almost like the buzzing sound of electricity. It was really overwhelming.

I felt a rush of confusion and concern when I noticed Brian's eyes were filled with a fiery rage. He shouted loudly “What on earth do you believe you are doing?”

Before I had a chance to process what was happening or even consider how to respond he charged toward me with unstoppable energy much like a powerful hurricane.

In an instant he grabbed me by the arm pulling me away from Karl with a strong grip that startled me and made my heart start pounding rapidly in my chest.

I pulled my hand away from him forcefully and it was really hard for me to keep my irritation in check. “I’m trying to save him Brian! What do you think this looks like?”

I shouted my voice cutting through the air sharply almost like the sound of glass breaking. I shot him a fierce look and all the frustration I felt just erupted out of me.

“Save him? It seems to me like you are actually trying to hurt him!” He responded quickly his voice deep and filled with menace.

Did he genuinely believe that my intention was to cause harm to anyone? “Do you really think we are so blind that we can't see what you are doing?”

“What? I couldn’t believe what I just heard. It felt like someone had slapped me right across the face and I was finding it really hard to understand what was going on. “You must be crazy! I’m someone who heals people! He’s been poisoned!”

My fingers were shaking as I reached back toward Karl. His pale face made my heart ache with worry and hopelessness. I knew I needed to get back to him and help him but Brian was standing there and it felt like he was an unmovable wall that was blocking me from getting to my patient.

He took a step closer to her his jaw tightly clenched and his muscles tense with frustration. He said “Becky you have always had a special talent for finding yourself in difficult situations. Do you even realize just how suspicious this whole thing appears to everyone around us? Karl was doing perfectly fine before you showed up in this room!”

I felt a tightness in my chest from fear but I straightened my back and tried to feel strong and determined. “I promise I didn’t poison him!” I exclaimed looking around at everyone.

“You all saw him when he first got here—he was already acting strangely! It wasn’t my fault!” My voice grew louder as I spoke bouncing off the walls as I desperately tried to make someone understand and believe me.

“Please tell me why are you the only person here right now?” he insisted speaking with a tone that was very quiet but also very serious.

“Do you really believe that I am just going to stand by and watch while you interfere in Karl's life?”

“Are you really asking me that? Do you honestly believe that I’m here just for amusement or to have a good time? The truth is I came here to offer my help and support!” As I spoke my eyes narrowed and I could feel the frustration building up inside me.

“And what about you? Why are you so set on turning this situation into a personal battle? Is it because you have always seen me as someone who is a burden to you?”

“That's enough!” His voice boomed causing my determination to waver.

“You’re not going to trick me again this time. I promise if you don’t begin to tell me the truth—”

“Do you really want me to tell you the truth?” My heart was beating faster and I could feel a strong sense of passion coursing through me.

“Do you think you are the one who knows everything? You don’t know anything about who I really am Brian! All you can see is the problems that you believe I am causing. I came here for a very important reason to help someone and it’s obvious that you are too scared to trust them!”

He replied with a hint of anger in his voice saying “You know I really can’t think about trusting you at all when you are here with me!”

His hands were tightly clenched into fists as he spoke. “You act without thinking Becky and I want you to know that everyone else in this group is fully aware of it too.”

“Absolutely everyone is aware of that!” I shouted in response with a heavy feeling from his accusations weighing down on me.

“However if you hadn’t come rushing into this place like someone who has lost their mind I might have actually been able to provide him with some help!”

Brian moved closer to me making the space between us smaller. I could see the storm in his eyes getting stronger.

He spoke firmly saying “I am committed to protecting this pack. In that way you are not superior to me. You believe you are a hero or a savior but all I can see is chaos and confusion that follows you everywhere!”

“Do you really think I’m chaos?” I said shaking my head in disbelief.

“I can’t believe you would say that! I’m not chaos I’m actually working really hard to keep our pack united and strong. Just think about it—how many times have I stepped up and fought for all of these people? How many times have I stood up for you?”

“Engaging in a fight is not the same thing as actually healing” he said with a fierce tone showing the disdain he felt with every word he spoke. “At this moment you are being seen as a danger!”

The atmosphere was thick with tension much like a tightly stretched rope that could break at any moment. Our opposing forces were clashing strongly creating an intense situation.

Just when it seemed that everything was about to come to a head and explode in chaos the door suddenly swung open once more.

At that moment one of the guards hurried into the room looking breathless and with eyes wide open as if he had just run a great distance.

“Alpha! We have a problem that we need to talk about!” he shouted looking very shaken and disturbed.

Brian quickly turned around completely directing all of his attention away from me. “What is it that you want?” he asked with a tone of impatience his forehead wrinkled in frustration.

The sense of urgency in his voice changed the target of his anger making it clear that something was bothering him deeply.

The guard swallowed really hard clearly feeling anxious and nervous. He looked back and forth between the two of us as if he was uncertain about what to say.

Finally he spoke up and said “There is an army that we do not recognize marching in our direction towards the pack. They are carrying weapons and they seem to be moving fast.”

As he spoke I could hear that his voice was shaking a little showing just how worried he was about the situation…
