Fear
Becky's P.O.V
My heart was beating rapidly in my chest almost like it was trying to break free from my ribs as I made my way through the crowd of wolves that had gathered in front of Rian's place.
There were so many wolves around me and they were all talking quietly to each other creating a low murmur that filled the air. The atmosphere was thick with tension and I could feel it as their eyes kept glancing towards the usual spot where Rian typically held his important meetings.
I felt a strong urge to move closer and I couldn’t help but have so many questions swirling around in my head. What was happening? Why was everyone here? I was eager to find out more.
I raised my voice and asked “What is happening?” My words broke through the quiet conversations around us.
A young warrior named Mark took a step forward looking very surprised as he opened his eyes wide in disbelief.
He said “I just heard that one of Jessy's men was discovered sneaking around inside Rian's study.”
His voice was so low that it was almost a whisper showing just how serious and important the situation really was.
I felt a deep furrow forming on my forehead as I hurriedly walked faster toward the front of the gathering.
There I saw Alpha Rian standing with his jaw tightly clenched showing that he was trying very hard to hold back his anger.
In the distance I noticed Jessy her bright fiery hair made her easily noticeable even among all the other people around us.
The atmosphere among the pack was really tense almost as if it were a tightly wound spring that was on the verge of breaking.
“What do you mean when you say you are sneaking around?” I asked trying to sound calm.
My voice was steady even though I could feel a growing sense of unease in my chest.
I knew it was important for me to stay composed especially since I was in front of Rian and Jessy.
At that moment Jessy walked over with a strong presence that made it clear she was in charge.
She commanded one of her men loudly saying “Bring him over here!” Her tone was firm and left no room for anyone to argue or disobey her.
The man quickly moved to go and get the captive they were holding.
In just a few moments a man who looked extremely messy and was shaking with fear was pulled into the light.
His clothes were torn and ragged and his face was covered in dirt making him look even more distressed. With a shaky voice he pleaded “Please... it wasn't me.” He seemed really scared and his eyes were moving rapidly from side to side as if he was looking for a way out.
“I just... I thought I could—” he continued trying to explain himself but struggling to find the right words.
Jessy interrupted him sharply her eyes filled with a cold intensity. “Did you really think that you could just sneak around and spy on my friend?”
She moved in a little closer her tone becoming very serious and low. “You were specifically warned to stay away from Rian's area and I expect you to follow that warning.”
The man nervously ran his tongue across his lips clearly anxious. “I promise Jessy I really didn't mean to do that—”
“That's enough!” Rian shouted in a strong voice stepping forward into the middle of the group. His powerful presence made the nervous crowd fall silent immediately.
He looked directly at Jessy and continued “What you have done is a very serious mistake. You really do not understand the extent of what you have put at risk here.”
“It was not my fault that this happened!” Jessy exclaimed with frustration almost shouting as she spoke.
Her eyes were narrowed showing just how angry she was. “Do you really believe that I would put my reputation and position with you at risk?”
“Can you please explain to me why your person was in my study?” Rian leaned in even closer standing tall above the shaking man.
His anger was so intense that it felt like it was surrounding him almost like waves crashing against the shore.
Jessy crossed her arms and looked thoughtful. She said “I really don’t know the answer to that. It’s possible that he was going too far and acting inappropriately. But I can’t be held accountable for every single wolf that seems to want to get into trouble or even put themselves in dangerous situations.”
“It seems that you are just as careless as you are ambitious.” Rian said quietly under his breath feeling frustrated as he clenched his fists tightly by his sides.
As each moment went by I could feel my worry and discomfort increase more and more. The atmosphere around us was filled with tension making it feel as if a heavy fog had settled in the space.
The man who was being held captive looked around with his wide eyes quickly shifting his gaze back and forth between Rian and Jessy.
He was visibly shaking as he stood there trapped in the middle of two strong and commanding leaders who seemed to be opposing each other.
“Please I promise I will share everything with you!” the man said his words coming out in a rush. You could hear the sense of urgency and worry in his voice as he spoke.
Jessy looked sharply at the person speaking. She firmly shook her head and said “No I can't accept that.”
Then she lifted her hand to emphasize her point. “We really don’t have enough time to listen to your excuses right now.”
“Jessy please hold on for a moment.” Rian said his voice quiet but filled with a strong sense of urgency. “I think there might be important information that he has and knows—”
Just as Rian was about to complete his sentence Jessy quickly pulled out a dagger that she had tucked away at her waist.
“I don't believe that will happen.” she said in a very cold and emotionless tone. In one quick and sudden movement she drove the sharp knife deep into the man's chest.
A loud shocked gasp spread through the crowd when he suddenly fell down to the ground. His eyes were wide open and it looked like life was slowly fading away from them.
The sight of this terrible event sent a strong wave of shock and disbelief rippling through the group of people watching. I felt my stomach twist in pain at how brutal and awful it all was.
My instincts urged me to step in and help him but I found myself holding back feeling the weight of my caution and hesitation.
“What have you done?” Rian shouted with great anger his voice rising and booming even more than it had before. “You have killed him!”
Jessy lifted her shoulders slightly showing indifference and a wicked smile spread across her face.
“He was more trouble than he was worth. And honestly without my help he wouldn't have survived to see another day.”
