Chapter 51
Those push ups in the school gym on my knees with ankles crossed seemed a lifetime ago, and in some ways they were. But today it was not going to be any battle of wits or who could do more push ups than each other. Today was going to be a battle of life. And I intended to win it no matter what was the situation.
There was an insulated pocket in this dress that I was wearing and I had the anti-dote of the poison of Salazar’s teeth in that pocket. I could not allow to get Luke harmed no matter where and in what state I was. Since we both had been training for this day for such a long time, it did not matter any more that today was the day of the final test. It was just the beginning of all my battles.
We all reached the training arena. It had been converted into a real arena in order to adjust the setting for the battles to take place. Since I had the maximum points till now I was the one who had the choice of a secret weapon. And I knew that Serafina was correct in saying that it was going to drive Rubina crazy. We all took our positions.
Ambernette had been too much hurt from her encounter with the Ambrosia Crystal so she had withdrawn from the contest and she was just another spectator. She was still extremely weak and it was visible in her entire demeanour. I wished that I would have gone and checked upon her when she was in the infirmary but I was too caught up in my own issues to see how another pack’s head was doing. Drima had told me that one of the other younger wolves of the royal family of the Yellow Blossom pack had already issued a challenge against Ambernette. So once she returned home she would have to fight her or she would have to submit and she would lose her position as the Alpha of her pack.
Then her life would be only limited till going to parties and becoming eye candy and a brood mare for creating more royal members after she had mated with another wolf. And from the looks of it, the knight who had been taking care of her since the night of the dinner was still by her side. She was truly lucky to have found someone to be with her for eternity. But I did not have the luxury of choice at this point of time. I knew that I had to win this match with whoever I might be fighting.
The Council had arrived and had taken their position near the podium where a table had been placed. I did not know if there would be any referee to the match but I hoped not. Because then things were going to be really out of control. And wolves did not fight fair because that was not in their nature.
“Welcome everyone to the final contest of the choosing of the next crown of the wolves. This will be the last battle to see if the one who is set to become the Queen is really going to become an Alpha or not…and for that not only a test of wills and wits, a hard core battle will ensue between our candidates,” said Mason out loud in the microphone and his voice boomed through out the hall.
There were a lot of spectators today in the hall to see the match and the adrenaline levels were rising. I was getting more and more pumped when I saw the crowd. When you think about a fight in your head and keep on training and pratising and sparring you never know how it was going to feel like when you were going to fight in front of a live roaring crowd. This sensation of live crowd might be overwhelming for a few but for my wolf it made her purr with pleasure.
She wanted to rip out Rubina’s throat in front of everyone and prove that we were not the ones who could be messed with.
“Since Blossom and Rubina are the candidates who have been tied at the second position for the same points they are the ones who will be fighting first and then the winner of this match is going to be fighting Synthia of Red hearts Pack. The same Red hearts pack from which our beloved Red Queen belonged to,” said Mason and the entire auditorium cheered out loud with him. I knew what he was trying to do and I was grateful to him that he was looking out for me.
“You are going to get a better vantage because she will be already tired from fighting Blossom,” said Drima and I nodded.
“Why do you think that she is the one that I have to fight and not Blossom?” I asked.
“I am your counsellor and your guide, Sin. I am never going to lie to you or lead you astray. I am giving you the facts and the fact is that Blossom is a strong and good fighter but she isn’t in the league in which you and Rubina belong. Rubina is deadly with Salazar and I have seen them fighting, you cannot even feel complacent for a moment and Luke is going to have to lift you up at all times,” said Drima and I nodded. She was telling the truth and her thoughts on this were absolutely perfect.
Rubina and Blossom both were standing close to the arena on their respective corners. Blossom’s familiar was a possum. No one knew how useful a possum was when it came to fighting but we were all keen to see.
I could see that Rubina was looking at Blossom and then looking at me. And the look in her eyes said clearly,” After her, you are next. I am coming for you.”
And seeing that the wolf in me snarled viciously because she was ready to rip her heart out and eat it raw. But I did not show her for once that I was getting riled up. Because never show your enemy that you are gradually going to finish her.
The match between Blossom and Rubina began. It was a hand to hand combat which meant that there were no weapons. And also their familiars were ready and poised to fight and then the bell rang with a loud gonging sound and both the contestants snarled and attacked it each other. With their wolves ready to bare their teeth it was nothing but a blur of motion of teeth and of punches and kicks. While Salazar was trying to grab Blossom’s familiar Buddy and grip him in the coils of his muscles and then squeeze life out of him.
But Buddy was quite smart from the looks of it, it did not give Salazar one chance to catch hold of himself and jumped from here to there. It might not be extremely aggressive all by himself like Luke but it was definitely fast and agile. Salazar was also neither slow and neither sloppy but definitely energetic, the power that he held in his coils was exceptional and I could understand that just from seeing.
Blossom was a skilled and trained fighter but the only thing that was missing in her case was she did not have that hunger that Rubina had and what I saw in her in that arena shocked me to the core. I knew that Blossom would become sloppy if she noticed it as well. Her eyes were not the normal black as they were earlier but they were now absolute pools of black. There was no white left in them. This was the deal that Rubina had made with the demon. Under no circumstance was she going to balk down or submit or even,……I had no words…if she could draw on her strength from a demon in order to fight dirty then what chance did I have of destroying that bitch?
I looked at Serafina who was having the same realization as me and she could see the panic in my eyes. So she closed her eyes and then suddenly I could see that her irises were not blue any longer but they were bright pink. It spooked me for a moment but I did not react.
She caught hold of my wrist and the bracelet which I had been wearing as an armour started glowing bright red, and then after a little while she opened her eyes again and said,” I have loaned my magic to you for the duration of the time that you will be there in that arena fighting her. This is not much but it will grant you protection against the demonic attacks. So don’t worry, with your power I doubt that you will need more than this. And remember one thing Sin, she might be cheating and taking the help of dark forces but you are the one who is going to triumph because you are nothing but pure.”
