Chapter 76
“I think that there must be some reason why Dahlia helped you have the vision. I could only see that someone was being killed without any reason and I could feel the pain as if I was in his body. I did not know that you could something of this sort,” I said as Serafina looked at me and said,” Neither did I. I should not be able to do things like this because they are not supposed to be the powers for the witches.”
“I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing but there is something that we need to be discussing once we are done with the interviews and then we have to make a plan. There might be a way that we can avoid the bloodshed and still do the right thing,” I said and she raised her brows and then she said,” I am sure that you are thinking of doing something epicly stupid and I would have to listen to it to even think about that right thing of yours.”
She put the right thing in air-quotes and I rolled my eyes. Serafina was literally my sister except being connected by blood and she almost knew everything that I could be thinking. So I waited to look at her and said,” Fine, let us begin by talking to people who met with the Red Queen or came in contact with her from the day before till the time that she was discovered to be dead.”
“I have made sure that the Royal Guards are present in the room at all times and are stationed outside the door,” said Serafina and I nodded.
“It is a wise choice. But where is Drima?” I asked. She should be here.
“She said that she is making all kinds of strategic plans and also creating the next news feed and the bulletin because the news that the palace had been infiltrated and that you were attacked is no longer a secret. She is busy doing damage control. There is a man who is a vampire types but not quite as such. I mean, that he is cold but not very cold and looks pale but again not very pale. He is sitting beside Luke and is doing all kinds of touching and feeling and nodding and murmuring. And then noting down stuff. I thought that he was a goner but he said that he had been summoned by Lord Credence so that he could check out Luke.”
“Is there someone present in the room? I mean, I know that we are mates and I can feel everything that he is feeling in the back of my brain but still it doesn’t mean that I am not going to care for Luke,” I said and Serafina smiled.
“The Healer is with them, I mean the Pack Healer and also Drima is sitting there in a table opposite and doing her work from her tablet. She said that by the time we finish the interviews and the communications she would have a speech ready that you would need to tell the people of Amorentia,” said Serafina.
“Great. Then I think we should begin without any further delay,” I said. Serafina waved her hand and the door opened. It was the head cook who was standing there and I nodded at Dan to let him enter. He curtsied and said,” Your Royal Highness, you have my compliments on your coronation and my eternal gratitude in retaining my services as the Royal Cook.”
“I love your cooking, so no worries. Just keep plying me with meat and sugar and I am going to owe you one,” I said and then said,” Please can you tell me or rather give me a list of all that the Red Queen had eaten and drunk from the day before her death till she was no more?”
“Of course, your majesty,” he said and then went ahead to give all the details of the breakfast and the luncheon and then dinner and I found that he was telling all vegetarian stuff and I said,” Hold on…Are you trying to tell me that the Queen did not have any kind of meat?”
The cook nodded and said,” No your Majesty, she had stopped eating meat from the past year and said that she was going on a cleanse. She ate vegetarian things and juice as well and drank tea only once a day.”
“Tea….now that is something that I am not going to believe. The Queen drank coffee and coffee only, how can you say that she was drinking tea?” I asked in shock. What on earth was wrong with the Queen? And if something was wrong then why did we not know anything about it?
“No your Majesty, I am telling the truth. She only drank green tea without sugar and some herbal stuff as well. We were all worried for the Queen and her health but she seemed perfectly fine and so we only followed all the instructions that she gave,” said the cook.
“What happened that morning that she was discovered to be dead?” asked Serafina and I found that she had brought out the enchanted cup and placed it on the table before me.
“That morning was no different. I made sure that I made her tea and then poured it in the kettle and then asked her maid to take it to her. She had said tahts eh was going to take her tea in the library,” said the cook and then he looked like that there was something else he wanted to say and I said,” Go on…”
“After a few minutes, Kia, her maid came back and said that her Majesty, the Red Queen I mean, I mean no disrespect….” He stuttered and I said that it was fine and gestured him to proceed and he said,” She had asked for a bowl of sugar and a new cup.”
“Is it so? Did she say that who was going to be joining her?” asked Serafina and he nodded his head saying no.
“No she did not tell me anything and I did not think anything also as of them and then I just gave her another tray with an empty cup and then she was gone. I started preparing her majesty’s breakfast then and I did not know anything until the bells were rung and we were all said that the Queen was gone,” said the cook and he looked absolutely genuine. I could feel his emotions and then I said,” Can you come a bit closer so that you can check if this is the cup that you had given her Majesty or not?”
The cook did not know that the cup was enchanted and I just wanted to see what happened when he came closer. The cook reached me and the table and then he looked at the cup and said,” No Your Majesty. This is not the cup that I had given the tea for her majesty. This is not. Her majesty wanted everything in red and black and this cup has purple flowers on it.”
“Maybe this is the second cup you sent?” I asked him prompting to get some idea that what might have happened and then he said,” No, your Royal Highness we did not have any this kind of cup or saucer in the Royal Kitchens. You can check the list and the cookware and the crockery and there also you are not going to find this cup.”
“Find Kia now,” I growled as soon as he ended the sentence.
I was starting to see all red in front of my eyes and that was not a good thing at all.
