Chapter 25 Speaking One's Mind When Drunk
Evelyn helplessly closed the door.
William had never been to this small apartment. It was tiny but cozy. There was a small bar counter where the kitchen and living room connected. William placed the alcohol on the counter and looked around the house, while Evelyn herself sat at the bar and opened a bottle of wine.
The stools were designed quite high, and Evelyn was wearing a slightly short dress today. Her legs, revealed from under the skirt, appeared even more slender. She lightly crossed her long legs.
William asked her to wait for a moment and opened the refrigerator, using the leftover ingredients to make two side dishes and brought them over.
Evelyn realized that the sense of taste had its own memory. After tasting something delicious that he made, she immediately felt hungry upon seeing him bringing the dishes.
The two of them sat together, eating the food and drinking the alcohol they had in their hands. Evelyn had a low alcohol tolerance, so she never drank outside. It was the only principle she had upheld since her debut.
William wanted to have a conversation with her and asked, "I've noticed that you've changed since I became your assistant. Can you tell me why?"
Evelyn was slightly tipsy, but her mind was still clear. "No one stays the same forever, right?"
"You're right, everyone will change," William nodded in agreement.
"Will you change too?" Evelyn suddenly turned her head, her eyes misty as she gazed at William, her tone serious.
"Yes, I will. Do you want me to change?" William asked.
"What will you become?" Evelyn didn't answer William's question, her eyes veiled with fog.
William felt that his heartbeat was too clear at this moment. "It seems like I will become more and more in love with you."
After speaking, he cupped Evelyn's face and kissed her.
There was no need for further words. They did what they wanted to do in this moment.
Evelyn remained still, her eyes widened, unsure whether it was the intoxicating liquor or the look in this person's eyes that was captivating.
For a while, just when William thought things would continue, Evelyn pushed him away. "I'm always scared, uncertain, feeling like everything is temporary."
Upon hearing Evelyn express the emotions she hadn't mentioned for a long time, William's heart trembled.
"It's because I haven't made you feel secure," William said, letting her go. He picked up the empty wine bottle from the floor and threw it into the trash bin. He told himself he could wait.
When he turned his head, he saw that Evelyn had already fallen asleep on the bar counter. Unintentionally, he chuckled. Got so drunk from just a little drink? Well, in the future, if he couldn't handle her temper, he could just get her drunk with a bottle of wine.
As he carried her to the room, William thought that in such a short time, he had learned another trick besides using a calculated plan.
The next day, when Evelyn woke up and saw her swollen face in the mirror, she suddenly remembered the chaotic night before. She still had to join the filming crew. She found William in the kitchen and immediately shouted, "Do you want to die? Who told you to buy alcohol? How am I going to look good on camera like this?"
William turned to look at her. Nothing major happened, just some slight under-eye circles. A little makeup would solve the problem. Then he remembered; this was just her morning temper. So, he stood there, holding a spoon, listening attentively to her outburst.
Evelyn couldn't do anything with him. Seeing him like that, continuing to argue felt like she was being the uncivilized one. She just sulked and went to the bathroom to freshen up.
William felt like he had some divine assistance on the path of pursuing his goddess after the amusement park incident. He couldn't help but feel secretly delighted. Success seemed within reach.
Vivian called, asking Evelyn to save her. Evelyn knew that Vivian wouldn't stay at home for long. Mr. Garcia and Mrs Garcia would definitely make her suffer.
"Evelyn, save me, and I'll do anything for you," Vivian said.
Evelyn had heard this line too many times. "You've promised me for this lifetime, the next lifetime, and even the one after that. You've run out of time long ago. Your schedule is full."
"Evelyn, I..." Vivian squatted on the balcony, tears streaming down her face.
"Give the phone to Mrs Garcia," Evelyn said.
Helpless to say anything more to her.
"Hugs, Evelyn!" Vivian finished nauseating her and went out to find her Mrs. Garcia. "Mom, mom, Evelyn's on the phone, let me go to her place!" Mrs. Garcia gave her a glare and she dared not speak.
"Hello! Evelyn."
"Auntie, are you busy with work lately?" Evelyn asked.
"I'm retiring soon, so not busy. I saw on the news that you've been shooting a period drama lately. You looked great in the costumes. Let us know when it's done, we'll go to the cinema to support you!"
"Okay, Auntie, thank you in advance! I called to discuss something with you."
"What's the matter? I'm listening, go ahead."
"Our legal department at the company is hiring interns, and I thought Vivian is just at home doing nothing, so I wanted her to come and try. The conditions here are quite good in all aspects."
"That's good. She's quite mischievous and still wants to stay by herself. Since you can look after her, I feel relieved. We'll send her over immediately."
"Well, alright then. I'll inform the legal department at the company and ask her to come over quickly for an interview."
"Okay, thank you so much for your help."
Watching Mrs. Garcia happily hang up the phone, Vivian couldn't help but sigh. Like attracts like indeed.
In the afternoon break, Evelyn was also too lazy to go out and wanted to stay at home for the whole afternoon. It was nearing autumn, with clear skies and refreshing air, and the sunlight outside was too inviting. This was the perfect time to stay home and watch TV, maybe even take a nap.
But after finishing lunch and before Evelyn could lounge on the sofa for a few minutes, William suggested going out for a walk. Evelyn decisively refused, not expecting William to insist this time. The two of them stood frozen in the living room, arguing back and forth.
When Vivian walked in through the door, she saw this creepy and eerie scene. She stepped back out, confirming multiple times that this was indeed Evelyn's house that she knew.
Evelyn stood awkwardly in place, and William remembered the girl in front of him from the hospital.
Vivian entered and put down her luggage, then rushed towards William. "Ah! It's you! Long time no see! You two..." Her gaze wandered between the two of them.
"He's my assistant."
"I'm her boyfriend."
Both spoke at the same time, and Vivian locked onto the key words. "Boyfriend! Wow, that's great! I've only been away for a short while, and you're already in love and living together?!"
"Before I throw you out, you better shut up!" Evelyn warned her.
Vivian knew Evelyn's temper, and she would definitely get angry if there was any awkwardness. So, she obediently closed her mouth, dumped her luggage, and went out, closing the door on her way.
Evelyn was truly speechless now, sitting on the sofa, unable to concentrate on the TV.
"I was afraid you'd get bored on set, so I wanted to take you out for a spin." Seeing Evelyn still ignoring him, William had no choice but to change the topic.
"She's called Vivian? Who is she?"
"Your memory is pretty good." Evelyn couldn't help but give him a sideways glance.
"I remember everything related to you, of course."
"If you keep talking nonsense like this, be prepared to be fired!"
"When are you going to give me a proper title then?"
Evelyn looked at him and almost vomited, "William, be normal!"
"What's wrong with me?"
Vivian wandered around the neighborhood for quite some time. She rushed out without a phone or wallet. She could only sit in the small square by the street and play on the swings with some children. This is quite an upscale neighborhood, according to Antonio. He said that there are celebrities and famous people living here, and they definitely have a high net worth.
After sitting for a while, Vivian understood that what Antonio said was true. The people passing by were indeed driving luxury cars, and occasionally some would come out for a walk. Their clothes and jewelry were not simple.
Vivian stared at the passersby in boredom and muttered to herself, "Come out, come out, I want to go in and find something to eat." She was really hungry. She only had breakfast at home and fell asleep in the car until she arrived here. Having not eaten anything, she felt exhausted.
She unintentionally looked up and saw someone coming in at the entrance. Although she couldn't see the face clearly, the figure and demeanor seemed familiar. Who is it? They were approaching closer, and she immediately recognized, "Charles!"
Charles, holding a kraft paper bag, was startled by this shout. He thought this neighborhood was quiet enough, and he didn't expect to be recognized by a fan. Taking advantage of the lack of people around, he quickly walked past Vivian with his head down.
Vivian persistently caught up with him and stood in front of him. "Charles! It's really you?"
"I'm on a break today, no photos, no autographs." Charles thought that by straightforwardly refusing, she wouldn't bother him anymore.
But Vivian continued to chase after him.
"I don't want a photo or an autograph. It's just a coincidence that we ran into each other, and I felt a strong connection, so I wanted to say hello. You must be too busy to remember me, right? We met at the hospital. I'm Vivian. Do you remember? I've watched several of your movies recently, and you're really good at acting..."
Charles already had a headache, and her noisy voice made him feel almost dizzy.
Vivian stood in front of him and only then noticed that his complexion looked really frightening. She tiptoed to touch his forehead. "Oh my god! You're so hot, you have a fever!"
"No kidding!" Even though it was meant to be a reproach, he said it weakly. Vivian was standing so close to him, and hearing his low voice made her legs weak. She was always so easily infatuated.
Seeing him in such a feverish state and buying medicine all on his own, her maternal instincts kicked in instantly. She directly grabbed his arm and propped it on her shoulder. "I'll take you home!"
Charles smiled wryly and wanted to shake her off, but he didn't have much strength left. Anyway, having a fan escort him back was better than fainting on the roadside and making headlines.
