Chapter 58 Embarrassment

Vivian spent an hour in the bathroom, cleaning herself and feeling famished. However, she realized that she had no clothes. She hadn't brought anything with her when she left. What a predicament! She had no choice but to pick up her dirty clothes. Just then, a knocking sound came from the door. Charles suppressed his laughter and said, "Here are some clothes for you."

Vivian opened the door slightly and extended a hand. It was fair and tender, waving in the air. "Give them to me."

Charles's eyes followed her hand and had a strange feeling. He handed her the clothes. "Come out quickly and eat. It's getting cold."

Upon hearing that the food had arrived, Vivian didn't think about anything else. She quickly put on the clothes and came out. Thank goodness.

He didn't hand her any women's clothes. Although it couldn't be concluded from this alone, it was a good sign that he was innocent.

The clothes on her were obviously Charles's, a sports shirt and a pair of pants. The hotel's air conditioning was strong, so she was definitely not cold. The top looked similar to a dress when it was on Vivian's body, but she hesitated and decided not to wear the pants because she could tell at a glance that they were too big.

As soon as Vivian walked out, she smelled the aroma of food and followed the scent to the dining table. She sat down and picked up the chopsticks. Charles, on the other hand, didn't know how to react when he saw Vivian like this.

The clothes were really big on her, loose-fitting. She tied her long hair up. Maybe she looked too disheveled before, but now that she had taken a bath, she looked fresh and beautiful.

Noticing Charles's gaze, she quickly straightened up her body. "Aren't you going to eat?"

Charles walked over and looked at her. "I'm not hungry, you go ahead."

"Oh." Vivian was starving at first, but being stared at like this, she couldn't eat no matter how good her appetite was. "Why are you looking at me?!"

Only then did Charles withdraw his gaze. "The hotel is fully booked."

Of course, Vivian understood what he meant, but how could she let him have his way? "Then I'll sleep in your bed, and you can sleep on the sofa." She even pointed to the not-so-big single sofa.

Seeing that he didn't speak or agree, Vivian continued to act pitifully. "Look, I've been on the road all the way here, looking like a beggar. I've been on the bus since last night, with so many people on board, all kinds of people. I didn't dare sleep. Look at my dark circles."

Speaking of dark circles, Vivian even leaned on the dining table and stretched her head towards Charles, blinking her big eyes.

But how could Charles still see her dark circles? From his angle, he could only see fair skin, delicate collarbones, and further down...

Charles coughed and pushed Vivian back to her seat. "Alright, I agree. Eat quickly."

Looking at his face, Vivian wondered why he suddenly felt unhappy again. She hadn't done anything wrong. It was really hard to come here like this. How could he be like this?

The more Vivian thought about it, the more wronged she felt. The food also lost its taste for her.

"I'm not eating anymore. You clean up, I'm going to sleep." Vivian wanted to sleep after eating. There was no choice. She had been staying up all night and hadn't slept for a long time.

Charles stood up with her. "Full?"

Vivian nodded and turned to the bedroom. But before she could take a few steps, she was pulled into his arms.

Charles's chin bumped against the top of her head, and his voice came from above. Vivian felt like she was hit by thunder. She only heard Charles returning to his previous question, "Is it my turn?" as he turned her towards him.

Vivian was speechless. Dressing like this, being so close made her feel insecure. "No, I can't..."

With a sigh, seeing her look of panic, Charles could only helplessly say, "Fine, if you don't want to, I won't force you." But I still picked her up, kicked open the bedroom door, and placed her on the bed, covering her with the blanket. I pressed a kiss on her lips, just a light touch. "Sleep now, goodnight."

Vivian, feeling a bit confused, grabbed onto him as he tried to leave. "Where are you going?"

From Vivian's perspective, Charles had his back to the light, and she couldn't see his expression clearly. It could be because of the lighting or something else, but she felt that he seemed exceptionally gentle. A muffled voice came through, "Taking a shower."

"Oh," Vivian let go of him and started worrying again. Did he film all day? Period dramas can be troublesome, and he must be exhausted. Finally, right before he entered the bathroom, she weakly said, "Don't sleep on the couch, it's too small. Sleep here instead, but..."

"Okay," Charles laughed happily.

By the time Charles came out, Vivian had already fallen into a deep sleep. This time, Charles believed that she really pushed through all the way.

Charles lifted the covers and lay down, reaching out to pull her into his arms. Lit by the warm light from the bedside lamp, he quietly gazed at her face. His hand gently caressed, involuntarily drawing closer.

Vivian slept soundly, undisturbed by anything that had kept her uneasy. She firmly slapped it away with her hand before finding a more comfortable position and falling deeply asleep once again.

Charles couldn't help but lower his head to look at her and couldn't resist smiling. How could he be so happy today?

When Vivian woke up, it was still dark outside. She wanted to get out of Charles's embrace, but before she could even move, she was pulled back again. Vivian could only look up and see his face, bathed in warm light, with a warm embrace, everything was perfect.

Charles opened his eyes, his voice slightly hoarse as he murmured into Vivian's ear, "Awake?" Vivian just looked at him, his voice was so pleasant to hear, and that face of his could thoroughly captivate her. When the words "for a lifetime" flashed through her mind, Vivian was momentarily disbelief.

Charles also gazed quietly at her, not doing anything, not thinking of anything. And yet, he spontaneously asked her, "Let's get married."

Vivian widened her eyes, confirming that she hadn't misheard. And Charles was serious too, taking a moment to think before saying, "Marriage? Marriage is quite troublesome, isn't it?"

This wasn't her excuse; she truly found it bothersome. Just thinking about all the things involved made her hesitate.

Charles was speechless in the face of Vivian's response. He proposed to her, and all she said was that it was troublesome. He playfully flicked her forehead, causing Vivian to feel the pain and tears welling up. Did he really have to use such force even though he got rejected?

That's what Vivian thought in her heart, but she relented with her words, "Let me think about it."

She never expected that she would ever consider it.

Vivian couldn't help but feel secretly delighted when she rejected Charles like that.

Charles held her tightly, smiling quietly. Vivian was pressed against his chest, listening to the sound of his heartbeat, momentarily lost in a daze. Did such an outstanding Charles propose to someone as terrible as herself? And was he rejected?

The sky was still dark. Vivian poked him and Charles responded with a grunt. She reached out and patted him, saying, "Go to sleep, you have to work when it's bright."

Charles chuckled again and gently touched her head. It was then that Vivian realized, dazedly, that he had been smiling so much today because of her sudden arrival, and that made him happy.

As dawn broke, Vivian couldn't resist her drowsiness and fell asleep again. The alarm went off and both of them woke up almost simultaneously. Vivian pushed Charles and hurriedly said, "Your phone is ringing, hurry!"

Charles finally became more awake and took the phone, turning off the vibration. So, she was still annoyed about waking up?

In annoyance, Charles messed up her long hair and then contentedly went into the bathroom.

Vivian was disturbed by a knock on the door, feeling extremely annoyed. It was just daybreak, so there better be some important matter. She stumbled to the door, and as soon as Charles opened the bathroom door, he saw a barefoot Vivian rubbing her eyes, about to open the room door. Outside the door, assistant Sam was calling out to her repeatedly.

Hastily, Charles held the door shut and pushed Vivian behind it before opening the door. He didn't want others to see Vivian like this. Outside the door, besides Sam, there was a crowd of people craning their necks to look inside. Charles held a towel in his hand, water still dripping from his hair. He was dressed in sportswear and sweatpants. It was clear that he had just finished showering.

Charles looked at Sam with just one glance, and Sam knew he was in deep trouble today. It wasn't his business for these people to visit before work started. Nervously, Sam looked at Charles and said, "Charles."

"What is it?" Charles asked.

"We..." Sam didn't have a chance to explain when another head poked out from behind the door. The hair was messy and the eyes were not fully opened. The face was completely natural and without makeup, with fair and delicate skin. The onlookers were surprised to find her unexpectedly attractive, with exquisite features and half-closed eyes, resembling a kind of lazy animal.

The crowd couldn't help but sigh. Indeed, she was Charles's choice, with such good taste. Why didn't he bring her out for everyone to see? They even made bets about it.

Vivian was caught off guard and Charles couldn't cover her completely. He could only do his best to block her body, which was wearing only his sportswear, from the view of the onlookers. Vivian looked at the group of people standing at the door, instantly startled, her eyes wide open, not knowing how to react.

Charles let go of her with one hand and gently touched her messy hair, lowering his head to whisper, "Go inside first, be good."

Finally regaining her composure, Vivian hastily ran inside.

In the room

The people outside the door looked at Charles in disbelief. How could he be so gentle? All the ladies present seemed dazed, and even the remaining men were stunned. Wasn't this the cold and distant Charles that everyone was familiar with?

Charles regained his usual coldness and looked at Sam with a gaze that could be described as chilling. "What's the matter?"

Sam resigned himself to his fate. "I'm asking you to start working early this morning."

Charles nodded and forced a smile at the crowd, though it could hardly be considered a smile, before closing the door without a word.

Sam turned around and looked at the crowd in despair. "Now you've seen it, right?" Everyone nodded, and some even said it looked good and patted Sam's shoulder in encouragement.

The crowd dispersed. "Did you see their couple's sportswear?"

"No, it was clearly Charles who wore it."

"This is the first time I've seen Charles like this."

"That girl looks so young, but she's beautiful."

"He seems to be in a good mood early in the morning."
