Chapter 38 Blooming Heart

Watching Evelyn walk away, Lena realized she couldn't really understand this type of woman. On the surface, she appeared ruthless and domineering, but in reality, she was nothing like that.

She was incomprehensible, unfathomable. Yet, Lena had a faint feeling that this person wasn't as invincible as she seemed to be. On the contrary, she could be described as affectionate and righteous. She had ruined one of her movies, but it couldn't even be considered her doing since she had done everything possible to compensate afterward.

So, Lena always felt indebted to her, and it made her slightly uncomfortable.

In the end, both Lena and Evelyn won the Best Actress awards for the television drama and the movie.

During her acceptance speech, Lena glanced at Evelyn and said, "Actually, I want to thank someone special today, and that person is Evelyn. I think this honor should be shared with her."

The crowd was in an uproar. There were rumors about Lena and Charles becoming close due to this project, and Lena was deeply infatuated with him.

But in the end, Charles announced that he was dating someone outside the entertainment industry, and Evelyn was the matchmaker. In the beginning, it was all about attracting attention to the movie, but now it seemed like there was more to it.

A melodramatic scene unfolded, and Lena's few words of gratitude shattered the rumors. Finally, Evelyn stepped onto the magnificent stage under everyone's gaze. After a brief acceptance speech, she prepared to leave the stage.

The host playfully asked how she felt about Lena's public confession just now. Smiling, Evelyn lowered her head, stunning everyone with her mesmerizing expression. Each and every subtle movement of hers exuded enchanting beauty.

"These matters can be discussed offstage." Evelyn's words made everyone sigh in admiration. It turned out that the two had a deep private relationship. The rumors of her using her fame to threaten Lena were merely publicity stunts.

Some people in the audience who knew about this couldn't help but exclaim, "It was indeed just a rumor."

After the award ceremony, Evelyn followed behind Adrian and prepared to get into the car. Lena and her manager walked over together. "Miss Bennett, thank you."

"Thank me for what? Didn't you already thank me just now?" Evelyn lifted the skirt she was holding and let it fall back down, then turned around to look at Lena.

Lena felt embarrassed under such a gaze. "I wanted to ask if we could be friends from now on."

Evelyn was even more puzzled, but she still nodded politely. Adrian, standing on the side, was also completely confused. Finally, Lena turned around and left.

As soon as Evelyn got into the car, Antonio called. It turned out that he accompanied a new employee from their company to the award ceremony, and he was nearby. He just didn't greet Evelyn.

"What? Did Lena look for you?" Antonio's low laughter came through the phone.

"What are you laughing about? It's all because of you!" Evelyn suddenly understood something. She did mention something to Antonio about introducing Lena to someone suitable, but she didn't know what exactly Antonio did in this matter.

"What could I do? I just thought Lena's personality was good. I want you to make more friends." Antonio found an excuse.

"I didn't expect you to have this kind of hobby. It's a shame that I prefer men," Evelyn said deliberately.

"Okay, you win. But I watched the movie, and you performed very well. It seems like I, as your agent, didn't do enough to get you into films earlier. Otherwise, you would have received this Best Actress trophy a long time ago," Antonio said with a chuckle.

"You don't sound congratulatory at all."

"You got that wrong. Seeing you reach where you are today, am I not the happiest person for you?"

Of course, Evelyn knew all of this, but she didn't want to engage in that conversation right now. With her character, saying such sentimental words of thanks would come across as intimidating.

"Well, Lena is really great. Making more friends is indeed a good thing."

"Alright, if there's nothing else, I'll hang up." Evelyn has always been grateful to have met Antonio at the beginning, when she was the most ignorant. He has been by her side all along.

Many things feel like they're missing a pillar. It seems that gratitude alone is not enough to express her feelings for him.

When busy, she felt exhausted from social engagements, and when not, she felt bored. Evelyn spent her days at home, going back and forth. The TV was not interesting, the phone was not interesting, nothing was interesting.

She held the phone in her hand, turning it on and off repeatedly.

"Just call him if you want to! Why hesitate? You're in a relationship! You're not exchanging secret information like spies," Vivian said, sitting on the sofa with fruit in hand. Evelyn had been wandering around all day.

Evelyn finally sat down beside her, eating the fruit she held in her arms. "You talk too much."

"You should make the call! Don't eat my fruit, go already." Vivian pushed her toward the study. "Go in, I promise not to eavesdrop."

Evelyn felt helpless, but then she thought Vivian was right. She was in a relationship with him. Why make a big deal out of a simple phone call?

When the call went through, William was pleasantly surprised. He had been stressed dealing with Menier's matter, but now, all the hard work seemed worth it. The goddess actually called him first!

"What's wrong? Do you miss me?"

"In your dreams." Just as she made the call, Evelyn regretted it, silently mocking herself.

"I do feel a bit dreamy, haha!" William laughed heartily.

Hearing his laughter, Evelyn unexpectedly felt pleased. "Are you done being busy?"

"Not yet. I have no clue, and it's driving me crazy." William wasn't lying. He had searched everywhere and still couldn't find where Menier was.

He might have cultivated significant power in a place unknown to everyone, and that would be the most terrifying outcome. Anyone associated with William would be endangered and trapped in the unknown.

Evelyn naturally didn't know any of this. She just felt a bit disappointed that William kept hiding things from her. Why couldn't they share and support each other? Every time she asked him about something, he prioritized secrecy over transparency.

"What about you? How are things going? I saw you received many awards, well-deserved!"

"Oh, thank you for your blessings."

Of course, William could sense the unfamiliarity and irony in her words, but he still smiled and asked her about something else. "So, have you met someone suitable?"

Evelyn was surprised that he still remembered this. "Yes, Antonio introduced someone to me, and they seem quite nice. I plan to give it a try."

Suddenly, Evelyn thought of Lena. They had crossed paths again after the awards ceremony and exchanged numbers. It could indeed be considered a successful "blind date," thanks to Antonio's introduction.

This time, William truly panicked. He knew Evelyn's tone and knew she wasn't lying. Antonio was really giving him a headache. "This can't be! I've been faithful to you. How could you betray me like this?"

Evelyn saw that he was really anxious, so her mood improved slightly. "Things are progressing rapidly on my end. If you don't come back soon, I'm afraid..."

"Afraid of what? How dare you!"

"Do you think I dare?"

"Hmm! I was wrong, I was wrong. I will finish as quickly as possible and rush back. Just wait for me!"

A long pause made William think Evelyn had hung up the phone. Eventually, Evelyn's voice came softly, "Mm."

After the call ended, Vivian could clearly feel that Evelyn's mood had improved greatly. "I've tried everything, being here every day without a smile on my face. Yet a short phone call makes someone's heart bloom with joy."

Ignoring Vivian's triumphant look, Evelyn opened the refrigerator and took out a bottle of water. Vivian couldn't help but fall silent when she looked at the bottle of water in Evelyn's hand.

It was the same brand of water as Charles's. There are so many options at the supermarket, why does it matter?

However, Vivian was indeed a bit sad. After that day, they really didn't meet again. Vivian had intentionally checked his schedule, and whenever there was a chance of crossing paths, she avoided it altogether.

Not wanting to go home, she stayed at Evelyn's place every day, claiming to accompany her, but in reality, she also needed someone to be with. She didn't know what that night meant, or what her own thoughts amounted to.

Although Evelyn knew she must have encountered some problem, she pretended not to know. They had always had this understanding between them, where they didn't ask if they didn't want to talk, and when they wanted to speak, they listened attentively.

Looking at the time, Vivian said, "It's almost time to prepare dinner. Evelyn, what do you feel like eating? I'll go to the supermarket now."

"Then let's go together," Evelyn said, preparing to grab her coat.

Vivian immediately stopped her. The lesson they learned from going out together before was too heavy. It was safer and quicker for Vivian to go out alone. Going out together would attract too much attention. "No, it's fine. I'll go and come back early. Bye, wait for me at home."

With her shopping bag in hand, she went downstairs. The evening sky was painted red, and occasionally, there were pedestrians walking together, taking a stroll or returning from buying groceries. It was a very tranquil and comforting scene as she walked alone by the roadside.

Her work gradually stabilized. Although she didn't become a defense attorney in court, she felt that her current situation suited her better.

Charles immediately spotted her walking along the roadside. He said to his driver, "Park the car. I'll go back on my own."

The driver, seeing the girl walking with her head down and then looking at Charles in the car, immediately understood. "You mustn't get caught again!"

"Mm." He casually agreed, closed the car door, and walked toward Vivian without looking back.

He followed her the whole way without being noticed by anyone. Charles didn't know whether to be amazed by his own lack of charm or by Vivian's slow reaction and poor sense of safety. Anyway, the two of them walked together all the way.

Charles was just thinking, If it's her decision, then it doesn't matter to follow her footsteps. After calmly reflecting on these days, it seemed that he had unconsciously started missing her, but he was not sure if it could be considered love.

But since his heart was moved, there was no reason to hesitate anymore.
