Chapter 73 The Attraction of Unfortunate People

Upon arriving at Don Company, Vivian got out of the car and forced herself to cheer up. She pointed at Charles and said, "Wait for me here. I'll take care of your lover!" Vivian only had this much courage and could only show off in front of Charles.

Sitting in the car, Charles watched as Vivian rushed into the Don Company. Most likely, it was Lena's clothes that caught the attention of the reporters. Vivian came downstairs wearing Lena's dress. The press immediately swarmed around her. Charles panicked, realizing that Vivian was pregnant. He had completely forgotten about that. How careless of him!

Charles hastily got out of the car and ran toward the crowd, protecting Vivian. Vivian was speechless. Why was he here too? Their cover was blown. She stared at Charles indignantly, and the surrounding reporters, realizing it wasn't Lena, were somewhat at a loss. How could this happen? Clearly, Lena had entered the building earlier.

As soon as the reporters saw Charles protecting the person in his arms, they instantly remembered something. Could it be Mrs. Clark? They had never managed to capture her face. This news couldn't be any less significant than Lena meeting a director in secret, especially considering the risks involved with WE Company.

As soon as Vivian saw the flashlights, she quickly burrowed her head in Charles's arms and refused to come out. The reporters kept interrogating Charles, but they quickly got into the car and left. Vivian covered her pounding heart and realized that being a star was not an easy task. Instantly, she felt sympathy for Charles, Evelyn, and, of course, Lena.

Lena sat in the back seat. She saw Vivian grabbing Charles's neck tightly.

"Why did you get out of the car?! It'll be in the news tomorrow. Oh god, my mom will laugh at me!" Vivian was very angry, and the consequences were severe.

Charles held Vivian's hand and glanced at the back seat, signaling that there were other people around. Then, in a gentle tone, he said, "Let's talk about it later."

Vivian felt embarrassed. She had forgotten that Lena was there too.

She quickly regained her composure and sat down obediently. Lena, sitting in the backseat, felt extremely awkward. Well, it was her own fault for being so persistent. She finally spoke and thanked the two of them. "Thank you! If it weren't for you today, I would've been in big trouble." Her voice was delicate and beautiful, and she had tears in her eyes.

Charles remained silent, but Vivian didn't want to leave Lena hanging there. So she forced a smile and said, "It's alright. Are you okay?" Vivian caught a glimpse of the faint smile at the corner of Charles's lips, which made her both angry and happy.

Vivian chatted with Lena all the way, and they finally arrived at the entrance of WE Company. Lena thanked them again and got out of the car, saying she would return the clothes later. As soon as Lena turned around, Vivian glared at Charles. "I don't care! I don't want to be in the news. Find a solution quickly."

Since getting married, she had always resisted the idea of their marital relationship becoming known to outsiders. Charles couldn't quite understand this, but he also felt uneasy. So he asked cautiously, "Wouldn't it be better to take this opportunity to make our relationship public?" He was afraid of hearing excuses that he couldn't accept.

Unexpectedly, Vivian replied, "Publicize it, but I don't want to wear Lena's clothes!"

Charles was satisfied with Vivian's response. He immediately took out his phone and made a call. Then he turned to Vivian and said, "Alright, it's settled. So, you mean that if you wear your own clothes next time, we can make our relationship public, right?"

Vivian didn't understand what he was struggling with, but she nodded firmly. Then she thought of a more serious problem. "You're not allowed to be so helpful in the future! I can handle all the good deeds in our family. Got it? Don't help others with this kind of thing again."

Charles was about to burst into laughter. He nodded and said, "Especially not Lena, right?" He resisted making a joke. "Why are you so lacking in confidence? And why don't you have faith in me?"

Vivian was stumped by the question. She remained silent, bowing her head. Seeing her like this, Charles said, "Honey, we've been married for five years now, and you're carrying my child. So..."

Vivian looked at Charles, who was looking straight ahead, and said, "I understand."

After a while, she shouted, "What did you just call me?!"

"Honey, of course."

Charles spoke casually, but Vivian was excited as she listened.

The next morning, Antonio arrived at Evelyn's place early. Evelyn was busy preparing breakfast, so Antonio went to play with Luis. When Evelyn was done, she called them, "Let's have breakfast together. I will take Luis to school later, and then we can go get busy with the contract signing. Is that okay with you?'

Antonio nodded. He lifted Luis onto a chair and sat down himself. The two of them eagerly watched Evelyn, waiting for her to serve them breakfast. "I didn't expect to taste your cooking so soon. I'm really excited!" Antonio's hearty laughter was refreshing, uplifting everyone's mood.

The breakfast consisted of ordinary dishes, so Evelyn felt a bit embarrassed by Antonio's remark. "Give it a try! But don't keep your expectations high. You know, my culinary skills have always been lacking," Evelyn defended herself.

Antonio looked at the beautifully colored food on the table. He was aware that Evelyn was just being humble. He smiled and picked up the food, savoring it attentively. A sincere exclamation escaped his lips. "Mmm! It's really delicious. Great job! You have improved so much."

Antonio gave Luis a pat on the head. "It's all thanks to you. Your mother has made great progress!" Luis wasn't sure if he understood Antonio's flattery, but the praise made him extremely happy. He started giggling.

After finishing breakfast and tidying up, the three of them were in good spirits. Looking at the time, Evelyn exclaimed, "Oh no! Luis, you're running late. Hurry and get your little backpack. We need to go to school!" They had completely forgotten about the concept of time. It was Luis's first day of school.

They quickly sent Luis through the school gate and finally felt relieved.

"How should we plan our day?" Evelyn asked Antonio.

"First, let's go choose some clothes, and then do hair and makeup. The company has prepared a signing ceremony in the afternoon. It will take place at Don Company. This time, it's quite important, as the CEO of Matinal Company will also attend. We can't be careless with our appearance."

"The CEO of Matinal Company? Madelyn!" Evelyn was surprised. She couldn't believe that she managed to sign with Matinal Company. But why would Madelyn attend such a small contract signing event?

Madelyn is a legend in this city, a woman who single-handedly founded Matinal Company, a film and media company that has become the best company in the country in terms of reputation. Such talent is truly astonishing.

Evelyn asked Antonio for more details. "Antonio, how did you manage to negotiate this collaboration? Don't tell me they came to you. I don't believe it. Please tell me the truth." Evelyn was incredibly curious.

Antonio looked at her expressionlessly. After a while, he said, "Madelyn is my half-sister." Antonio never thought he would be able to say this so casually. It wasn't as difficult as he imagined!

"She is the oldest child in our family, and I guess I'm the illegitimate one," Antonio said lightly, as if it was just an ordinary thing. "But I didn't grow up in the family. I became independent at an early age. I met you right after I left home." He finished with a soft chuckle.

Evelyn struggled to conceal her astonishment. She was afraid that her expression would unintentionally hurt Antonio. All she could do was smile lightly and pat his hand. "No wonder they say unlucky people are drawn to each other. Don't worry about it."

Antonio also smiled. This was still the same Evelyn. Even her way of comforting someone was peculiar, but nonetheless, her words were comforting to him. "You're not wrong. But don't worry. I don't mind it anymore. I've gotten used to it a long time ago." Antonio's smile carried a hint of bitterness.

Evelyn couldn't miss the disappointment and desolation in his words. Not minding it anymore meant he used to mind it a lot before. It was only natural to become accustomed to the pain. That was the implication behind his words. "Then, this opportunity of mine, was it because of you?" Evelyn knew it would have been better not to ask at a time like this, but she couldn't help herself.

Antonio shook his head. "No, she asked about you, and I simply introduced you. Don't worry. Your problem is that you think too much." Antonio's smile returned to his lips. She remembered that when she first started out, she didn't understand many things and relied on Antonio for everything.

Thinking about it now, those times were truly beautiful. "Do you remember the first time I was caught having a meal with a male friend? Haha! I was so scared back then, but thanks to you, I managed to come this far smoothly. Yet, here I am, still relying on you without making any progress!"

Antonio laughed. "Actually, I didn't know much back then either. We didn't rely on each other. It was more about leaning on each other, right?"

The two of them chatted all the way, choosing their clothes and fixing their hair and makeup. Antonio sat on the couch, waiting for Evelyn. He looked up when she emerged. He was truly amazed by her beauty. Perhaps it was because he hadn't seen this radiant Evelyn in such a long time.
