Chapter 56 Everyone's Doing Well

Sophie's ears were filled with that name. At this moment, she truly felt jealous. She pushed Étienne away helplessly, looking at him with a heartache, not knowing what to say. His suit jacket was off to the side, tie crooked around his neck, but his shirt was still neat. Seeing him in such a despondent state was really hard. With a firm resolve, she picked up the glass of alcohol on the table and poured it over him.

Étienne gradually sobered up and saw the person in front of him, wiping off the stinging alcohol from his face.

Sophie wanted to go forward and support him, but he pushed her away.

"Thank you. You made me sober up," Étienne stood unsteadily now. He knew Evelyn had left, regardless of the reason.

Even if he was completely drunk, he still had to find his way home. This night, Étienne understood what he wanted and realized how foolish he was. The cool night breeze on the empty street completely woke him up. In this relationship, only he kept sinking deeper and deeper and ended up in this situation.

Ridiculous and pitiful, he mocked himself in his heart, imagining that Evelyn at this moment must be mocking him as well.

Sophie followed him like this, watching his sadness and embarrassment on the desolate street. If indulging himself like this could make him feel even a little better, then let it be. She would accompany him. She envied the woman who left, able to make Étienne so sad, while she would never have such a right again.

Not knowing how long she had been with him, Sophie just felt someone sneaking around.

From behind, Sophie saw Étienne fall to the ground and couldn't help but quicken her pace, eager to go and help him up. However, the people behind her dragged her into a small alleyway by the street.

In the pitch-black surroundings, Sophie felt fearful and uneasy. She shouted Étienne's name over and over again, almost hoarse, but these people didn't give her a chance anymore. Eventually, those people left, and Étienne didn't come either. Sophie tightly clutched her torn clothes, sobbing silently, unsure how long she had cried.

Sophie's voice became hoarse from crying. She looked at the sky gradually brightening with extreme astonishment. She put on her clothes and hid herself in a thick coat, slowly standing up against the corner of the wall. Biting her lip and covering her ears tightly, she wanted to scream, but no sound came out. She didn't even know how she managed to walk out of that alley.

Looking at Étienne still lying on the ground, she stumbled over and took out her phone from his pocket. While still on the call with Leo, Étienne woke up and stood up from the ground.

Sophie handed him his phone without saying anything and turned to leave. Étienne sensed that something was wrong with Sophie and caught up with her. It was then that he noticed her tear-stained face, swollen eyes, and dirty coat covered in stains, with her shirt seemingly torn.

Understanding the situation, Étienne looked around at the chaotic surroundings. Without asking too much, Étienne lifted Sophie up in his arms. Sophie couldn't hold back anymore, and tears flowed freely once again. It didn't take long before Leo's car arrived.

After getting into the car and seeing the two in the back seat, they were filled with anxiety.

"Leo, find out about all the men who were here on this street last night," Étienne said to Leo, who was driving. Then, he turned to look at Sophie, "It's my fault, there's no need for you to be scared."

Sophie continued to cry endlessly. She clenched her fingers tightly, closing her eyes firmly. She was in pain, her entire body hurting and feeling exhausted. But there was a deeper feeling than pain and fatigue, a feeling like she just wanted to die. She wished she could just die and let it all end. She felt like she could hardly breathe anymore.

Étienne didn't take her back home. Instead, they went to his apartment. He opened the door and Sophie, who had been silent the whole way, finally said, "I want to borrow your bathroom."

Étienne nodded, and Sophie went into the bathroom.

Outside the door, Étienne glanced at Leo and said, "Go find a doctor. A female doctor."

Leo turned around in agony. How did it come to this? It was just one night, how did things end up like this?

Étienne waited for a long time outside the bathroom. Sophie had suffered such an ordeal, and he couldn't absolve himself of blame. She must have called him many times last night, but he didn't hear a single one.

Sophie must have hoped deep down that he would wake up and save her, but he didn't. How could he have let her follow this drunken fool around the streets?

Both of their hearts were in turmoil.

Inside the bathroom, Sophie repeatedly rinsed herself.

Wearing her heart on her sleeve, she felt her tears wouldn't stop flowing. Every time she wiped them away, more would come. Until she heard Étienne knocking on the door from outside.

After seeing Leo buying clothes and getting the doctor and servants together, Étienne started panicking and knocking on the door. No matter what, Sophie refused to open that door. Étienne took out the spare key and handed it to Calliope and the doctor.

"Bring some sedatives," he said to the doctor after a moment of thought, then went into the study with Leo.

"Find out what happened." Leo nodded.

Finally settling Sophie down, who was still deeply asleep, Étienne asked the doctor about her condition. The doctor only said, "Physically, the wounds are easier to recover from, but there will be significant psychological trauma. Pay close attention to the patient's mental state and call me if anything abnormal occurs."

When Sophie woke up, she didn't cry or make a scene as expected. She just lay on the bed, staring blankly at something. As usual, when Étienne returned, he asked the servant, "How is she?"

The servant replied, "She still refuses to eat or drink. I found that she's not sleeping either. When I went in, she pretended to be asleep. The situation doesn't look good."

"I see," Étienne nodded.

Pushing the door open, Sophie turned away and closed her eyes. Étienne sat down beside the bed, "If you wake up, eat something. Let's go downstairs for a walk, alright?"

Seeing her still silent, Étienne continued, "Everything will be okay. It will all pass." He didn't know what else to say to comfort her.

Tears overflowed from Sophie's closed eyes. "I was so scared. I kept calling for you, but you never came."

Étienne reached out and patted her, "That was my mistake. Don't think about it anymore. Things will get better from now on."

Finally, after coaxing her to eat, Étienne went to the study to handle his business. The game company was just getting started, and he was busy and tired, but this kind of busyness made Étienne feel more at ease. He no longer had to think about things he didn't want to remember. During the quiet night, Étienne would also think that this kind of busyness was not bad.

It seemed that everything was slowly falling into place.

In the end, Antonio issued a press release, announcing Evelyn's temporary withdrawal from the entertainment industry, with no fixed date for a comeback. Despite the pressure, the TV drama "Shall I Compare You To A Spring Day" followed the trend and aired. The public was in an uproar. How could Evelyn announce her withdrawal when she was so successful in films, even amidst the scandal?

Various speculations were buzzing around. It seemed that everyone was like this, never satisfied when things were in full swing, but always nostalgic when they took a break from the limelight. This ultimately resulted in the TV drama's skyrocketing ratings, pushing Alan, who had acted in the drama, to become a leading actor overnight. He received numerous awards for his performances.

In the drama, Evelyn was lively and cheerful, so completely different to the icy cold demeanor she always portrayed. Both on the catwalk and in the streets.

The play depicted a story of a bright young girl pursuing a wealthy nobleman. However, their astonishing acting skills left the audience in awe, and Evelyn's final performance before retiring completely shattered everyone's expectations.

At this moment, Evelyn's loyal fans also came forward to remind the public that she was just a 23-year-old girl. As a result, the whole world mourned. Even Antonio's resignation from WE Company was brought up, with people speculating that he had been with Evelyn since their time at Star Agency. Evelyn was his first star, and now that Antonio had resigned, it was assumed that Evelyn would no longer appear in any events.

Vivian conveyed all these things over the phone to Evelyn, who couldn't help but laugh and cry. She wondered why she hadn't realized that she had so many fans before. "That's just how this industry works. It will blow over soon," she said.

Vivian couldn't help but speak up again, "And what about Antonio? Are you really keeping this from him? You should know how he feels about you, shouldn't you?"

How could Evelyn not understand? It was precisely because she understood that she acted so ruthlessly. If there was no hope, she couldn't let him continue like this. "Just don't tell him anything." she replied.

Vivian sighed, saying, "You're doing it for his own good."

"What about your significant other?" Evelyn asked.

Embarrassed, Vivian replied, "What about him? He's filming at Napa Valley Film Studios."

"What's there to be embarrassed about?" Evelyn remembered something and continued, "I also need to remind you of something."

"What is it?" Vivian became nervous as she heard the seriousness in Evelyn's voice.

"Be careful of Lena," Evelyn warned.

Vivian didn't understand what Evelyn meant, "What?"

Evelyn couldn't help but facepalm. There seemed to be a communication barrier with this person. "She has feelings for your significant other."

"Really? That's terrible, it's too late now," Vivian sighed.

"What's wrong?" Evelyn asked.

"Lena is also at Napa Valley Film Studios, and they're both filming the same movie," Vivian snorted.

Evelyn chuckled softly. Finally, she had a sense of the impending crisis. "Well, you'll have to handle it yourself. I have to go to bed now," she said.

After hanging up the phone, Vivian thought about Charles's expression when she mentioned Lena before he left. Could there really be a problem?! Evelyn wouldn't joke about such things, so Lena must have some interest in Charles. As a strong rival, Lena successfully caught Vivian's attention.

Lena was so charming, what if she managed to steal Charles away? Vivian couldn't stop thinking about it and immediately dialed Charles's number. It was already past eight in the evening, unsure if he was still at the set or had already returned.

At the Hotel

After a while, someone finally answered the phone, and Vivian nervously asked, "What are you doing?"

Charles heard the strange tone in her voice, but still responded, "Just finished taking a shower."

"At the hotel?" Vivian quickly asked.

"Yes," Charles replied.

"Oh, okay. Are you alone?" Vivian said.

Charles wanted to tease her, so he replied, "There are others."

"Who?!" Vivian instantly raised her voice.

Charles was satisfied with her reaction and said, "Who do you think?"
