Chapter 51 Finally Made the Decision

Evelyn didn't know how she returned home from the hospital. She sat on the couch, hugging herself and stared into space for a long time. Her mind was in a mess. Should she give birth to this baby? Can she do it? Will the baby blame her for coming into this world? But to remove it? That's too cruel, she couldn't bring herself to do it.

Evelyn felt like she was losing her mind, completely clueless about what to do.

Regardless of anything, Evelyn had made up her mind. She wouldn't; no couldn't terminate the pregnancy. It had nothing to do with whether she still loved Étienne or whether they would be together again. She simply wanted to keep this child, even though the idea seemed crazy. But she knew that no matter how conflicted she felt, this decision would not change.

Taking advantage of the fact that it wasn't too apparent yet, Evelyn quickly finished filming the TV drama. Luckily, for some unknown reason, the director was also rushing the production. So before long, Evelyn was "jobless" again. Silver Media was basically falling apart, and meetings were now held at WE Company.

Although Evelyn usually didn't pay much attention to these matters, she could still sense that Antonio's recent work was extraordinarily difficult. For two consecutive weeks, Evelyn had no work at all, and rumors began to spread like wildfire that she was being suppressed by unknown forces and was on the verge of being blacklisted.

Almost everyone in the company looked at her with cold eyes. Antonio was furious, but Evelyn knew that Antonio was also struggling for his own survival.

Even though she had no job, she still had to be present at the company from nine to five. This was truly tormenting. As the two entered the company gates in the morning, they could already feel that something was off.

"Do you know? Evelyn's new drama, which was supposed to be aired in a few months, has been banned again."

"Really? That's so unfortunate. I really don't understand. They don't want her to do any activities, so why keep her locked up in the company?"

"Yeah, I heard Lena got signed, so Evelyn has even fewer opportunities now. Weren't they good friends? Now her resources are being snatched away by her best friend. It's really unfair…"

"Hard to say, haha..." The discussions between the two continued, with Antonio fuming and Evelyn remaining calm. It was good that she had nothing to do and could enjoy her leisure time. However, her growing belly would soon become apparent, and she still felt it would be better to back out from this situation.

Evelyn informed Antonio and Vivian about the termination of the contract. Although they didn't say much, their disappointed expressions easily gave away their hidden thoughts.

Vivian couldn't help but think to herself, if it were in the past, Evelyn would never give up so easily. But why did things turn out this way now? After Antonio left, Vivian asked Evelyn, "Evelyn, what's really going on with you?"

Evelyn felt that there were some things she could no longer bear alone, so she decided to speak up and tell Vivian, saying, "Promise me you won't overreact, and I'll tell you."

Naturally, Vivian assured her once again, and then Evelyn spoke, "William, the current CEO of WE Company, is Étienne in France. I just found out that the woman he had been in love with for many years has returned. The moment he heard her voice, he apologized to me, and everything ended just like that. But now the trouble is that I am pregnant."

Vivian was completely stunned, not knowing what to say, just staring at Evelyn in disbelief.

"I don't want to abort the child. After all, it's a small life. Although his arrival wasn't what we expected, I have no right to kill him," Evelyn said as she looked at her own belly.

Only then did Vivian regain her senses. "But you need to think clearly! How old are you? Can you support him on your own? It's not realistic!"

"If you're trying to persuade me, then spare your effort. You know once I make a decision, I won't change it," Evelyn chuckled.

Vivian struggled to digest this fact. Just by hearing it, she found it incredibly cruel, let alone the fact that Evelyn actually experienced it. She could hardly believe how Evelyn managed to endure it. Vivian hugged Evelyn tightly, and tears started streaming down her face.

Evelyn also reached out and hugged her back. "It's okay, I'm fine."

Wiping away her tears, Vivian composed herself and said firmly, "It's alright, there's still a long way to go. Evelyn, don't be sad. I'll help you raise this child!"

This time, Evelyn couldn't help but laugh. "I can do it on my own."

"No matter what, he will be my godson. I have to share the responsibility," Vivian insisted.

Evelyn nodded with a smile at her best friend's heartwarming and profound words. There was never a need for many words between them.

Leo noticed that Étienne was extremely angry throughout the afternoon. Whoever came out of the office had a sour face. As Leo got off the elevator, he overheard someone saying, "I'm just a copywriter, why should I be scolded?"

The person next to her asked, "What did they say about you? Can it be worse than mine?"

"Definitely worse off than you, saying that I'm so terrible, are there random people outside who are better than me? With this level, why does the company keep me around?!" Leo walked by from the side, finally shutting them up. What happened? Although Étienne was serious and responsible at work, they would never insult or scold their subordinates. Leo had only been away for the afternoon, yet they brought over the copywriters and scolded them all?

Leo carried a cup of coffee into the office. From the voice coming from inside, it was clear that Étienne was in a bad mood, a very bad one. Leo put down the coffee and before they could say anything, Étienne, without lifting their head, scolded them, "I called you to work, not for the company to have you solely for making coffee!"

Leo smirked, "I thought you were getting tired of scolding people, was I wrong?" Leo saw a termination letter on the table and immediately understood why Étienne was so angry. Indeed, whenever they encountered this woman, they couldn't remain indifferent.

"Did Benny make the appointment?" Étienne coldly asked.

"Yes, the Mexican restaurant on Maple Avenue tomorrow night. He said he'll wait for you there, but since you just got injured, you probably can't eat that kind of food. Should we change the location?"

Étienne waved their hand, "No need, you can go now."

Leo nodded and couldn't help but playfully tease, "Can I take the coffee then?"

"I told you to leave!" Étienne scowled.

This time Leo really left. It's better not to provoke them while they're angry.

"Wait." Before Leo could even touch the doorknob, Étienne called him back.

"There's one more thing." Étienne tossed the termination contract on the table to Leo. "I want you to invalidate this."

"How do I invalidate it?" Leo looked helpless, always finding himself facing difficult tasks.

"Can't you figure something out with the contract?" Étienne's tone wasn't friendly, and he didn't consult with Leo either. All Leo could do was take the termination contract and silently step out.

Étienne didn't know what he was doing?! He just felt that as long as it was related to Evelyn, all his rationality disappeared. When he saw the termination contract, he suddenly found himself filled with fear. Would he ever see her again if they let her go? When he realized that he was still so attached, his heart was filled with resentment, hating her and hating himself.

Sophie watched Leo with great sympathy.

Leo's efficiency in handling matters was always high. It didn't take long for Evelyn to learn about the failed termination. Antonio approached Evelyn with a pile of documents, looking helpless. "Didn't you see this clause when you signed?"

"What? Vivian helped me review the contract, there shouldn't have been any problem. I guess someone didn't want me to quit," Evelyn said.

Antonio pointed to one of the clauses and asked Evelyn, "This termination fee is quite high, did you not pay attention to it when you first reviewed it?"

Evelyn didn't feel like going through those again. "Forget it."

Antonio didn't understand the implicit meaning behind her words. "What do you mean by 'let it go'?"

"Let it all go, just follow him for now. I still have some patience. When I can't tolerate it anymore, I'll naturally find a way," Evelyn knew that this was revenge, but what she didn't anticipate was that, to Étienne, everything was just beginning.

Vivian also rushed over. She had quit her job at Silver Media and luckily found a decent job. However, she didn't know how much time she had lost compared to before. As soon as she entered the company, she became very busy.

Looking at the contract in her hand, Vivian was certain. "This one has been altered. What about yours, Evelyn? Adrian seemed eager to take it away. I didn't pay much attention at the time."

Evelyn suddenly realized how foolish she had been. She thought she had seized a good opportunity, but it turned out to be a trap that had been set long ago.

Silver Media? He really went to great lengths.

Unable to hold back, Evelyn chuckled. Antonio and Vivian found it strange to see her suddenly laughing, but they didn't ask further. They both knew that it couldn't be explained by mere coincidence.

Finally, they arrived at the building of WE Company. The group welcomed Étienne like celebrities surrounding the moon. He confidently entered the building like this, a side of Étienne that Evelyn had never seen before. It felt so unfamiliar. Throughout the long time they had known each other, she truly knew nothing about him.

The other women in the building couldn't help but admire Étienne. How could they not be attracted to such a talented and charming young man?

"I heard he's single."

"Single? Forget about it. We can't reach his wealth and background. Let it go."

"Though it sounds harsh, it's true! But that secretary by his side is also beautiful."

"They probably have some other connection. They make a strange couple."

Evelyn looked at the crowd preparing to enter the elevator, and there she was...the woman he was determined to save. Her hand almost dropped the water cup, but she steadied her emotions before coming out of the pantry. Everyone fell silent upon seeing Evelyn because her aura was too strong.

"I really don't get it. Why is an idle person so arrogant?"

"Yes, nobody has cared about her for a long time. Hahaha..."

Evelyn found it a bit piercing, but since entering this circle, she had become accustomed to all kinds of voices. No matter what she did, she couldn't please everyone. If she constantly demanded perfection from herself in such circumstances, she would only become more exhausted.

Once you have a broader perspective, there are no words that can hurt you. Even doing nothing at times can be a mistake.
