Chapter 65 Return, Passing By
Five Years Later, at the Airport
A handsome and delicate little boy stood in the airport hall. His fair and tender skin, exquisite features, and bright, sparkling eyes scanned the surroundings. He stood confidently, unaffected by the bustling crowd around him. Suddenly, he seemed to have spotted something and hurriedly ran toward it.
Today, Sophie and Étienne were going to France to discuss a cooperative case. She arrived at the airport early and was waiting in the hall for Étienne and Leo. She looked at the flight information on the big screen: Melbourne. Ever since she learned something a long time ago, whenever she saw anything related to this city, she couldn't help but be lost in thought.
Suddenly, Sophie felt a small force pulling on her suit jacket from behind. She turned around but didn't see anything. However, she heard a soft voice, gentle yet slightly peculiar in its foreign-accented English, calling out to her, "Auntie..."
Sophie lowered her head and saw the small figure in front of her. She was surprised as she looked at this handsome child, who seemed to be of mixed race with attractive features. It felt like she had seen him somewhere before. "What is it? Do you need something from me?" Her voice softened unconsciously as she squatted down to meet him, mesmerized by his exquisite face.
"I found your wallet," he said as he extended his small hand and passed a deep blue leather wallet to Sophie. "I didn't look inside. I just wanted to return it to you." He explained while looking at Sophie fixated on the wallet, with an expression that was incredibly adorable.
"Okay, thank you." Unable to resist, Sophie reached out and gently touched his silky hair. What a well-behaved child! She hadn't even realized that her wallet had fallen. It was fortunate he found it. "What's your name..." She was about to ask the child's name when she suddenly heard Leo's voice. She turned her head to respond and then looked back at the child in front of her, but he had already disappeared without a trace.
Leo approached and handed the plane ticket to Sophie. "What were you doing crouched on the ground?"
"It's nothing. I just dropped my wallet, and a little boy found it and returned it to me." As she spoke, she raised the wallet in her hand. Leo nodded in understanding. Seeing that there was no one else behind Leo, Sophie asked, "Where is Mr. Chevalier?"
"He's over there."
Sophie followed behind Leo, thinking about the child's appearance. It felt so familiar, as if she had seen him somewhere before. Not far away, Étienne, dressed in a suit, sat with crossed legs on a seat, looking at his phone. His expressionless face didn't reveal what he was thinking.
The gaze of the young women around this man assessed him continuously, but the intense aura of killing intent emanating from him made people hesitant to approach. They could only observe from afar.
Sophie walked over and sat next to him, getting a little closer. It turned out he was looking at stocks. It seemed like she could hear the hearts of the surrounding girls breaking. Leo looked at Sophie and felt speechless. Over the years, all she loved to do was...
Such boredom. How could Étienne not know? But he let her go.
Those around him could all feel that Étienne had undergone tremendous changes over the past few years. His company, For Dream Company, had become the strongest in the domestic gaming industry. He also held the powerful WE Company, as well as a series of subsidiary investments and industries, making him a titan in the eyes of many.
Being low-key and rarely appearing in the public eye only added to his mystery. Outsiders thought of him as an elite in the business world, low-key and mysterious. Some said he was single, while others claimed he already had a beautiful companion by his side. Everyone was curious, yet no one could provide any accurate information.
Leo glanced at the time and said to Étienne, "It's about time."
Étienne then put away his phone, stood up, and caused a sigh of admiration from those around him. So tall! And his physique was so impressive! Absolutely perfect. The three gradually disappeared from sight.
Evelyn took hold of her luggage but couldn't find Luis anywhere. She looked around and called out, "Luis... Where did he go again?"
"Mama, I'm here." Luis heard Evelyn's voice and quickly ran over. This woman was so reliant on him; he really had no way to refuse her. He waved his little hand as she turned around.
Evelyn wore a fine striped shirt, paired with blue denim shorts, and a simple pair of white shoes on her feet. Her fair and slender legs were exposed. She had trimmed her hair a little shorter before returning, and now it reached just below her shoulders. Even though she was already a mother of a five-year-old, she still looked youthful and naturally caught people's attention.
Evelyn touched Luis's hair and said, "Let's go. Vivian is waiting for us outside." With that, she dragged the suitcase toward the door.
Luis, with his short legs, followed closely behind Evelyn. The thought of seeing Vivian filled him with excitement. Since he was very young, he had always longed to go to America because every time he asked Vivian where she was going, she would always tell him she was going back to the United States. He also remembered her telling him that his mom had grown up there.
Luis wondered if his dad was also there. Even though his dad treated him well, he knew that he was not his biological father. So he really looked forward to coming to America.
As soon as the two stepped out the door, they saw Vivian waiting by the roadside. When Vivian saw Luis, she ran over and hugged him. But then she quickly remembered something and put him down. She said with a serious expression, "Luis, did you miss me?" She didn't even glance at Evelyn.
Luis had already been instructed by Evelyn on the plane that if he wanted to have a feast, he had to be sweet-tongued. So he planted a kiss on her cheek and said, "Of course, I missed you. It's been so long since you last visited me." He even pouted to make himself look pitiful.
Seeing the little guy's appearance, Vivian felt guilty and immediately hugged him in her arms. "Alright, alright, I was wrong. Get in the car, and let's go home. We'll go eat something delicious."
Luis had a triumphant look on his face. He turned to Evelyn, blinking his eyes. Evelyn suddenly felt that he had definitely learned from her. His acting skills were really good, so she smiled and nodded at him.
Once they got into the car, Vivian started giving instructions to Evelyn. "Charles has already arranged your house. It's in the same community as mine. But considering that you probably don't want to see me every day, there's a little distance between us. Let's go have a meal first. Are you hungry?"
"Hungry!" Luis leaned against the car window, marveling at the scenery outside. He really liked it here, even though he had never been here before. There was an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
"Great! I'll take you to eat something delicious." After saying that, Vivian turned to Evelyn. She was still staring at the unfamiliar yet familiar city in front of her. "How about it? It's been five years. There have been a lot of changes here, right? But you finally agreed to come back. That's great. Five years can really change a lot of things. I wonder if you've changed."
Evelyn's thoughts drifted somewhere else. She paid no attention to Vivian's sentimental musings. She was still thinking about things. Coming back like this, a lot of questions popped up. They didn't have any source of income for both of them, and Luis needed to go to school.
Vivian noticed her for a while and said, "Hey! What are you thinking?"
Only then did Evelyn turn to look at her. "Is there an elementary school near the apartment? Luis needs to go to school."
Vivian glanced at her and said, "Sure enough, having a child is different. You're constantly worried about your child. Don't worry, we've already thought about this. There's a school right next to the community, and it's one of the best in the city. Luis can conveniently go to school there."
Evelyn nodded and said, "Okay." If it weren't for this good friend, she couldn't imagine her life. Looking at Vivian, who still had a childish look, it was no wonder her son liked her so much. After all, they were able to play together. "So, have you and Charles not thought about having a child yet?"
"Oh? Children? They're so troublesome. I don't want them; at least not now." Vivian scratched her head. In fact, when they got married a few years ago, both their parents had been urging them to have a child soon. Charles also went along with Vivian's preference, so they kept finding ways to avoid it.
"Charles is helpless with you." Evelyn held back her laughter. "It's been five years. I'm sure you've thought of every possible excuse."
Vivian pouted. That was indeed true. Their parents were about to force them to go to the hospital for a check-up. Seeing Evelyn's relaxed demeanor, she asked, "How about Antonio? When are you going to meet him?"
"I'll tidy up first, then we can talk. How is he doing?"
"Antonio has been managing his coffee shop peacefully. But talented people are always impressive in whatever they do. Now the coffee shop has become quite an iconic place. It used to be crowded all the time, so Antonio implemented a membership reservation system. Even so, business is still booming."
Evelyn nodded, relieved to hear that.
"Don't let your guard down so easily. He's been living like a hermit anyway. But you, my dear, have committed a great sin." Vivian still had some reservations about how Evelyn handled things with Antonio. Five years is not something that can be resolved overnight.
Evelyn remained silent. She knew exactly how Antonio felt about her. She just felt that if something couldn't work out, she shouldn't let him have too many expectations. But she didn't expect him to live like this. She truly felt sorry. However, matters of the heart cannot be resolved with just a few words.
As she looked at the towering buildings not too far away, her eyes caught sight of a sign in big letters–For Dream Company.
Vivian suddenly realized that while she had been thinking about how to return home conveniently, she had forgotten about this. Looking at Evelyn, who seemed unaffected, Vivian felt a bit relieved.
