Chapter 79 Hang in There a Little Longer

In the scorching summer, the sun was unbearably hot, and people didn't want to leave their air-conditioned rooms.

So Evelyn considered herself lucky, as she wasn't filming during the hottest period. Antonio mentioned that negotiations for a new film were underway. Madelyn spared no expense for Evelyn this time.

Naturally, Evelyn was touched. Recently, she had only taken on some advertisements and endorsements, and it was evident that Madelyn was working hard to provide her with good opportunities. Evelyn was curious about the reason behind it, but she didn't ask Madelyn. She thought that the main reason was probably Antonio.

Deep down, Madelyn felt indebted to Antonio. Although it was a mistake of the previous generation, the moment she first saw Antonio, she knew he was her younger brother. Antonio never acknowledged their relationship before, so Madelyn cherished this opportunity even more. Madelyn could clearly see how much her brother liked Evelyn and how Evelyn didn't have much affection for him. If she could help Antonio, it would be for the best.

However, what troubled Madelyn was the divorce contract signed by Morgan. It truly weighed heavily on her heart. She had thought that the events that night had moved him, but his first action after waking up was to divorce her.

Originally, not having a contract was her final gamble to let go. But facing Morgan, Madelyn had never won, not even once. It was truly tragic.

Madelyn had cast Alan as the male lead in Evelyn's new drama. Alan's popularity was high these days, and the drama he filmed with Morgan was expected to be released soon. After that drama, they would release their collaboration. It was a way to ride on Morgan's fame, as it was necessary for a producer to consider the investment return. She also thought that Alan's drama would be ending soon, so this matter had to be brought up on the agenda. She then dialed the number.

Alan answered the phone. He was on the set and happened to have a break. "Is the shooting finished?" she asked.

"It's almost done. The next scene we shoot will be the final one. Miss Adams, don't worry. I've cleared my schedule for you. How could I not prioritize your matters? Plus, I've worked with Evelyn before. We're all friends, so rest assured," Alan assured her.

"Okay, thank you," Miss Adams replied.

"Well, if you insist on thanking me, then I won't be polite about accepting it." Alan chuckled warmly.

After thinking for a moment, Madelyn asked, "What about... the director?"

"Oh, he's around. Do you want to talk to him? I'll go find him," Alan offered.

Madelyn quickly said no, stopping Alan in his tracks. Her heart was racing, and Alan's casual words made Madelyn even more unsettled. Alan deliberately lowered his voice on the phone and said, "Miss Adams, let me ask you. Is the director sick? His mental state seems particularly poor. He's forcing himself to work." Alan paused, then continued, "Miss Adams, I think Morgan might have... depression." He stayed quiet, waiting for Madelyn's reaction.

"I've seen him take medicines before. My friend with depression also takes them, so I couldn't help but suspect. I was just curious. Is it really true?"

"No, it's not. He's probably just exhausted from work." Madelyn didn't have time to think. She just didn't want to hear any negative rumors about him.

Understanding Madelyn's position, Alan dropped the subject and didn't say anything more. "Alright then, that's good. I need to start working now. Goodbye." Alan hung up, still as lively as before.

After ending the call, Madelyn felt heavy-hearted. Depression? Could Morgan really have depression? She pondered this question, and the more she thought about it, the more frightened she became.

Silence, lack of communication with others, insomnia, and occasionally finding medicine bottles in the room. Madelyn always thought that artists were prone to some sleep troubles and such, so taking sleeping pills didn't seem like a big deal. She had never thought much about it until Alan brought it up. It truly surprised her.

She immediately grabbed her car keys and rushed home. She headed straight to the guest room where Morgan often slept. She searched through drawers, desperately looking for answers. Finally, she found a small medicine bottle in a drawer and immediately took a photo. She sent it to a doctor friend she trusted, asking what illness that medicine was for.

As she held her phone, waiting for a response, her heart almost started racing out of control again. This was too terrifying. If it was true, how could she, as his wife, have been so incompetent?

The phone rang, and Madelyn almost trembled as she picked it up. "What is it?"

"This is a commonly used medication for treating depression, and it is generally taken long-term because of its slow efficacy and patient dependency. So it is not used unless absolutely necessary. How did you get hold of this medication?"

Madelyn completely lost her ability to speak and had no idea what the other person was saying. Morgan had depression! And it had been a long time! She tried hard to think about it, but her mind couldn't calm down. "Let's not talk about it now. I'll tell you next time."

She hastily hung up the phone, grabbed her car keys, and left. Regardless of anything else, she navigated and searched for the location. She had to confirm with Morgan, and as for everything else, she really had no extra energy to think about it.

When Madelyn arrived at the set, she shouted Morgan's name and rushed onto the set. Morgan was standing next to an assistant, holding a phone. He was startled by Madelyn's thunderous roar. When he saw Madelyn standing not far away, he thought he was dreaming.

But clearly, it was not a dream. As soon as Madelyn saw Morgan, she ran toward him. Her foot tripped on a wire, and she almost fell, but Morgan quickly reached out and pulled her over, holding her steady.

Once Madelyn regained her balance, she immediately said, "Morgan, I have a question for you!" It was the first time Madelyn had been so assertive. Everyone around was dumbfounded.

Aware of the curious gazes around them, Morgan looked at her helplessly and said, "Let's talk outside."

Madelyn followed him, and the two stood in front of a car on the set. When they realized there was no one around, Madelyn finally said, "Why didn't you tell me?" She took out the bottle of medication.

Morgan held it in his hand, realizing that she had found out. He didn't say anything. He just looked at her, neither confirming nor denying.

"Morgan, I'll ask you one question. In five years of marriage, have you ever liked me? Even just a little bit?"

"The divorce agreement has already been signed. It's not important."

"No! It's important to me! You tell me." His response was still silence.

Madelyn gathered her courage. "I know now, and your silence is the answer!"

This time, Morgan had no response. What kind of logic was this? Madelyn continued, "I won't divorce!" Madelyn felt that if she didn't know about this, then divorce would have been possible. But now that she knew, she couldn't let Morgan go like that. She couldn't do it.

"What does it have to do with whether or not I have depression and whether we get divorced?"

"Yes, it doesn't, but I get it now. It's not that you're ignoring me because you dislike me. It's because you're exhausted and don't want to deal with people. It doesn't mean you don't like me. I just need to confirm this, that's all. Just let me be stubborn this time," Madelyn said.

"I have depression," Morgan finally spoke.

"I feel like there is still hope for us. Morgan, I solemnly tell you, I will not divorce."

After Madelyn said this, without waiting for Morgan's response, she grabbed his collar and pulled him down completely. She tiptoed and planted a kiss on his lips. After releasing him, she looked straight into his eyes and said, "I'm telling you, you can't escape."

Morgan was left speechless. Is this still the Madelyn he knew?

Madelyn blushed and ran out of the set. The onlookers who were peeking nearby were all stunned. Morgan was actually forcefully kissed!

This incident was truly shocking. Alan wanted to laugh. He truly played a good role. He unintentionally discovered this secret. Clearly, Morgan never told anyone about his depression. He didn't even tell Madelyn.

Alan took a gamble, hoping to help Madelyn.

Madelyn's face was burning. She had already turned the air conditioning to the lowest setting, but it didn't alleviate anything. She actually... Oh my, if Morgan had slapped her, she would have definitely committed suicide. But Madelyn soon thought of Morgan's depression.

It seemed like she needed to put in a lot of effort. She had heard people say before that depression was terrifying. She must not let Morgan face it alone.

Morgan was speechless. What was going on? But he didn't ponder on it any longer. He was tired now, and the filming of the movie had also ended. It was time to rest. Seeing Madelyn run so fast, he didn't care anymore.
