Chapter 64 Everything Will Be Brand New
This statement really worked wonders.
After considering it all day, Evelyn agreed to it just like that. She didn't know what she could give to this man, but she continued to accept his help.
Life became much better after that. Even though they got married, they still lived next door to each other. It was a distance that made Evelyn feel safe. After all, this friend was like a gift from God, or at least that's how Evelyn always thought of him.
Sophie found Leo and asked, "If I wanted to find that woman, would you help me?" Clever women are skilled at using their vulnerability to their advantage.
Leo didn't know what she was planning, but he knew that whatever it was, he wouldn't hesitate if Sophie asked for his help. However, his answer to this particular matter was a definite no. "I'm sorry."
Sophie laughed at herself. "Haha, I get that a lot!" She looked at Leo and continued, "You could find her, couldn't you? But you didn't help Étienne find her this time. Why? Can you tell me why?"
Leo remained silent.
Sophie suddenly burst into laughter. "No matter what your reasons are, I'm grateful to you. Can I ask you for one thing?"
"What is it?" Leo asked.
Sophie spoke earnestly, "Don't help Étienne find Evelyn. Never, ever! Okay?"
Leo chuckled. "When Mr. Chevalier wants to find her, he'll find her. It's not up to me to decide. You overestimate my abilities."
Leo looked at the woman in front of him and wondered how he could have been infatuated with her for so long. In this moment, he suddenly let go. She had changed, or perhaps she hadn't changed at all. He just hadn't seen through her. Leo walked past Sophie. "Don't try to win someone's heart through schemes."
Had his intentions become so obvious?
Evelyn's departure had changed the lives of many people, including Antonio.
Antonio resigned from WE Company. At first, he felt lost. He hadn't anticipated that his life would feel like it was being controlled by Evelyn, and now that she had suddenly left, he didn't know what to do.
It was truly pathetic and terrifying.
He had also attempted to find her whereabouts, but how could he find clues to something she didn't want him to know? After struggling for a while, he realized that he couldn't continue working. He remembered a small dream he had chatted about with Evelyn many years ago.
Evelyn had said that if she stopped working, she would open a coffee shop. Although she rarely drank coffee due to severe stomach issues caused by her profession, she loved the aroma of coffee. So Antonio kept this small dream in his heart.
Now, with no plans in sight, he thought, "Why not fulfill this dream?" It would be nice. He pondered the name for the café, but there was hardly any hesitation in his mind.
It was decided - Firefly. A firefly, with its small flickering lights, is a symbol of hope in the darkness.
From the moment Antonio saw Evelyn, he knew that a girl like her would shine in this circle. Although it was really tough at the beginning, the two of them worked hard and gave their all even for a small opportunity. Looking back now, those times were really beautiful.
Antonio had also witnessed Evelyn's transformation. She became better and better, but also more and more silent. When they were shooting "Shall I Compare You to a Spring Day," Evelyn's condition really worried him. She only showed her smile in front of the camera; her silence and exhaustion were terrifying.
Antonio often wondered if he was partially, or even largely, responsible for Evelyn becoming like this. If he hadn't brought her into this circle, would she be happier? Whenever he thought of these things, he felt sad. In the end, resigning seemed like the best choice.
But that would be fine too. When Evelyn had rested enough and returned here, she would discover that her dream had already been fulfilled with his help. Wouldn't she be moved?
Étienne had just finished a case and drove back home. He didn't turn on the lights and sat quietly on the sofa. Half of the liquor bottle on the coffee table was already empty. His old friends asked him why he had lost weight when they saw him. It turned out that heavy drinking made it easier to become thin.
He turned on the television, and "Shall I Compare You to a Spring Day" happened to be playing. Evelyn's smiling face appeared in front of Étienne's eyes. He had already watched this drama five times. He could even recite the lines by heart, but he still refused to give up and watched it again.
He didn't know who he was tormenting.
The next morning, Leo couldn't reach Étienne no matter what. When he arrived at the apartment, he found Étienne lying unconscious on the sofa. The coffee table and floor were filled with empty liquor bottles. He had no idea how much Étienne had drunk.
After rushing him to the hospital, they discovered that it was a severe case of gastric bleeding. Was this person seeking death? Leo couldn't understand it. He really wanted to wake him up and ask him why he was torturing himself like this.
Sophie received Leo's phone call and hurried to the hospital. She looked at Étienne lying unconscious on the hospital bed. The person she cherished so desperately was casually stepped upon by another person. It was a terrible feeling. She looked at Leo with tears in her eyes.
"What should we do?" Leo was helpless too.
Sophie stood in front of Étienne when he woke up.
"I found Evelyn and told her you were dying. I asked her to come see you, but she refused," Sophie said.
Étienne glanced at Leo, who turned his head. Étienne was truly awake now. It turned out that this woman not only didn't love him, but she also didn't care about his life. In that moment, he truly felt a sense of relief, as if a heavy burden had been lifted.
Everything would be a new beginning.
