Chapter forty one

Nancy listened quietly, while I spoke with my mum.
"Are you at the base now?"
"Yes mom."
"Did you get into trouble?"
"No, I didn't."
My mum paused for a moment, as if she was thinking, and then she said goodbye. I heard her hang up the call, and I turned to face Shully's many questions.
"Mum???" The one word asked the question.
"Yes, mum." I waited for more.
"But you told me..."
"I know, I know." I stood from the bed, and ambled to the door. After I had securely locked it, I came back. "Listen, I found my mum today"
"Hmmm." Shully didn't look convinced.
"I'm serious. And honestly, I want to back out from both the operation, and the gang." I looked at her, but her eyes still portrayed disbelief. I spoke on, "on my way to the place where Peter Mack took me. You remember where he took me?"
She nodded. "I don't know the place, but you did tell me that he took you somewhere."
I continued, "on my way there, I thought to make a quick stop at the hotel I used to say. And say hello to my attendant friend, who actually turned out to be the owner of the hotel. Not only was she the owner of the hotel, she was also the owner of me "
"You mean?" Nancy furrowed her left brow.
"Yes" I held her hands. "Nancy, a lot of things happened today. A whole lot of things that I can't tell the sisterhood. That was the main reason my facial expression was dull earlier today."
"Does this mean there is no Shully?" Nancy asked quietly.
"There is a Shully."
"Is she sick?"
"Yes!!" I screamed aloud in despair. "With cancer and kidney failure."
Nancy looked at me sadly. "I'm sorry you had to go through any of that."
"Thank you."
Silence lingered. I was lost in my own thoughts, and Nancy in hers.
A while later, she broke the silence. "Are you seriously gonna leave the gang?"
I felt like leaving them was biting the finger that fed me. And I knew they were going to find it hard to forgive me too. "Yes!" It was a tough decision, but my mind was made up.
I watched her trying to note her thoughts through her facial expressions, but she stared away. "Not now, but yes! I'm going to leave the gang." I continued.
"When?"
"After I find out what really happened with my father."
I knew the question she was going to ask next, so I answered without waiting for her to ask. "Yes, Pedro is my father."
"Then what do you mean after you find what really happened with your father?"
"Well, he was pressured into becoming a mafia gangster." I waited for her to ask another question. But when she didn't, I volunteered more information. "I'm not so sure, but my mum thinks so."
"Does this mean you aren't going to end him like you promised us all? Don't you think this is selfish. You are meant to do this for all of us, Camilla. It's not about you. In a way, I think Kate was right. You are a member of the Sherlock Head Mafia Gangsters, and Pedro is your father. What were we think trusting you with something as delicate as this?"
"Shut up!!!" I didn't mean to yell at her, but I felt relieved after I screamed into her face. "Nancy I least expected you to be the one spilling stuff like this. I have found my mum, something you know I have secretly prayed for. I think I am beginning to love for the first time in my life, and you know how hard it was for me to be willing to give love a chance. Every missing bit is falling in place, all but Shully who is hospitalized. Didn't you also tell me you would leave if you had the chance to?"
Nancy sighed. She looked away, avoiding eye contact with me. "Your father killed my father, you know." She whispered this calmly, I wouldn't be saying this as calmly as she was, if I were the one in her shoes. She continued, keeping her gaze fixated at the open window.
"Do you now see why that operation meant the whole world to me? Not only did he kill my father, he went ahead and raped me. Do you really have any reasons refusing to kill this man, Cammie? I thought you told me that he stole your life and childhood. Is it logical to keep making findings? What else do you wish to know about him?"
She was right. My mum only made assumptions that he was pressured into this life style, but he didn't behave like someone who was. Everything he did was proof that he enjoyed it.
Nancy tapped me, and when I turned to look at her, she spoke on. "Cammie, make me a promise. Promise me that you will avenge my death."
I frowned, and raised an eyebrow. "Your death?" I didn't mean to, but I giggled lightly too. "Stop pulling my legs, dear."
Nancy smiled. "Just promise me that you will kill Pedro no matter what." She then grabbed my hands, and kissed my left hand.
"Do you promise?" She was almost in tears.
"Fine, fine! I do." I didn't think it through, but I made a crazy promise to her.
"Thank you. I have limited time, but I have a bargain to keep to"
"Bargain?" I was unsure if she had heard my question. In little time, she was at the door.
She banged it behind her. Left with nothing else to do, other than think, I refused to over think what was going on. Instead, I picked up my phone, and logged in on Instagram.
Keddy had left lots of messages. Kind words, understanding texts, and lastly, "I love you so much, and I promise you, you were the only thing on my mind today."
I smiled. I wouldn't tell my mum, but I'd go ahead and kill Pedro. If possible, the Mafia lord. Then I'd probably elope with Keddy.
I meant it this time, and nothing would change that.
