Chapter Forty Three
Nancy said she wasn't going to make it. So in other words, she was about to trade her life for Shully's.
If in the end, Shully survived, I would be grateful. But the fact that Nancy had to be the one to donate her kidney didn't sit well with me.
How sure was she that she wasn't going to survive? I shook my head.
And then I dusted the gun. I had found it when I had inhabited the Mafia sisters house, before they came back. And I have never really put it to use.
Only then didn't dawn on me that I have never actually committed murder.
Did I really have what it took to pull the trigger?
I sighed.
Eleanor was standing in front of the door to my bedroom. "Cammie." She pushed the door open, creating a wider room for her to walk through.
"Yh?" I tried refilling the gun's bullet while we spoke.
I retrieved a bullet from the drawer, and tried hard to load the gun.
Eleanor watched me, and spoke on. "I just found a letter in my room, and it's from Nancy. The content of the letter has it that she has travelled, and wouldn't be back anytime soon. She even included that if after three weeks, she doesn't come back, that we should go ahead and mourn her"
My face wrinkled, I wore a frown. "Is this all?"
"Yes!" Eleanor stretched out her hand to give me the letter.
"Okay, thank you."I retrieved it from her, in a manner that suggested we were both enemies. Perching on my bed, I skimmed through it carelessly, although it wasn't easy, I suppressed the tears bravely.
"I have heard you, thank you for bringing this to me. I'm busy as you can see. " I sneered at her, and she turned to leave. I regretted my unkind tone, and words almost immediately. Asides the fact that it wasn't her fault things were going the way they were, I also had a peculiar fondness for Eleanor, from the first day we met. I admired the fact that she was reserved, and I wondered secretly if she had any scars.
"Cammie." She paused halfway to the door, and called me.
"Eleanor!" Unintentionally, I gave a cold response.
"I understand that you and Nancy were very close, and that you miss her. You may be trying to act brave, but you are still a very little girl. I'm going to be twenty four soon, and I have more experience than you do. Tell me the truth, where is Nancy? What is really going on, why would she leave in a manner as this?"
I sighed, almost giving in to her convincing words. "I don't know much. Please leave now, I have a gun to load." I got back to trying hard to load the gun. I could have asked her to help me, but I didn't want to.
I continued making futile attempts, until I successfully loaded the gun.
My mother replied to my message from earlier today, she wanted to know what I meant when I said that I was going against the plan we made. I knew how sugar coated her words could be, and how hard convincing her was. I ignored the message.
She called instead. "Camilla, what's going on? I want to know.
What are you planning on doing?" I picked up the phone call, but I had no plans responding to her questions. Eventually, she would get tired, and hang up the call.
"Are you there?" I said nothing, I was thinking of a way out. A way to get to Pedro, a way to sneak back into the base of the sherlock head mafia gangsters. Her questions were the last thing on my mind, and providing answers to them was the last thing I'll do.
"Cammie, whatever happens, please do not kill your father. He has a lot bottled up, and he would share it someday, but please. Don't kill him."
"Mum!!!" I screamed. I was tired of hearing her plead on his behalf, she was beginning to sound like she was his accomplished. "Mum, I was the one who was raped. I was the one whose childhood was ruined. I was the one who almost got killed. I am the one whose best friend is sick. I know you think you understand, but you don't. If you were in my shoes, you'll probably take revenge too."
I was about hanging up, when she began speaking. Although sure I wasn't going to heed to her counsel, I chose to hear her out anyways. "Baby, I thought we have talked about this." She sighed in exhaustion. "Wherever you are, and whoever you are with, has probably brainwashed you."
"No, mum. Infact, one of them has gone as far as donating her kidney to my best friend, Shully. I have my mind made up, I'll take revenge. Besides, I made a promise to her, I told her that I would avenge her death. I have absolutely no choice, other than to do as I promised."
I didn't realize that Eleanor hadn't left yet. She stood transfixed at the door, her mouth cupped with both hands.
"Goodbye mum!" I tossed my phone on the bedside drawer, and sighed.
And then my eyes met with Eleanor's.
"Camilla?" Eleanor strode close to me. "Did you tell us all lies? It's obvious you did. Didn't you say you have no mother, and no relatives??? No doubts, you you're nothing but a spy. have a mother, and a father, and a best friend, and a lover, and everything you told us that you don't have."
"Eleanor!!!" I slapped my face with my hand. "Eleanor, why the fuck would you eavesdrop on my conversation? I'm trying to get things done, is it necessary lurching around, and eavesdropping???"
Eleanor swallowed. "I am going to tell all the sisters what you have done. You are going to be punished for this, I promise."
"No, you aren't." I picked up the already loaded gun, and kissed the butt just like villains do in movies. "I will shoot you, and you won't do anything about it."
"You don't have what it takes to pull a trigger." She said with gait.
She shouldn't have, because that upset me so much, I pulled on the trigger. The gun didn't make much noise, and I watched her duck the bullet. I repeated the act multiple times, until I saw blood stains on her body.
"It would have been easier for you to shut up, but you didn't want to. Now, you get things the hard way. Good night, Eleanor. Goodbye, sisterhood. I have a gang to fight and a father to kill." I walked out of what used to be my bedroom, after taking a few things I thought I'd need. On my way down the stairs, I ran into Kate.
"Do you have any idea where Eleanor is?" Kate's question was directed to me.
"She went out to buy something, although I'm not sure what it is. She should be home soon." I lied, and prayed silently that she wouldn't smell the blood on my skin.
She nodded, and walked ahead. Vivian who was seated in the living room, with her phone and cigar asked the same question. "Where's Eleanor?"
I sighed. "I don't know." And gave her a different response.
"And, where are you headed?"
I turned around to face her, taking a quick glance at the living room of the Mafia sisters, because I knew this would be my last day in it. "I have a Pedro to kill, and Sherlock Head Mafia Gangsters to deal with, remember?"
"Oh, yeah. Don't come back if you don't have good news." She teased.
I smiled, and walked on, muttering under my breath. "I will never come back."
