Chapter sixty seven
Keddy's POV
"Why did you bring me here, it doesn't look like any ordinary bar to me. We passed almost thirty bars to get here, why this one?" We were seated and waiting for the waitress to come take our orders. The tables were wooden and outdated, the chairs were uncomfortable as well. It wasn't a minute since we walked in but my buttocks was starting to hurt so badly. "Aren't you gonna say something, Dave?" I was feeling so uncomfortable, I didn't mind running out of the kiosk, into the street and down the many kilometers we drove to get here.
"We are waiting ma'am." He ignored my question and motioned on the only waitress in the kiosk to come. The kiosk was choking hot with no proper ventilation in it, it explained why I was beginning to sweat so profusely. A little woman with her apron strapped around her waist paddled close to us.
"Hello sirs." She gave a broad smile. I could still spot deep dimples and cute dentition in the dark. "Good evening, what would you like to have?" She continued, passing us the menu. It was a long list of different kinds of drinks and meat to go with it. I had no appetite, but I ordered a bottle of stout. My accomplice ordered barbecue and really hot drink.
"Will be back soon, please exercise patience. I'm the only one on duty now, I'll get back to you shortly sirs." We nodded and watched her swiftly head for the kitchen to get our orders.
"So, tell me Keddy. What exactly attracted you to Camilla?" He asked while we waited. "I mean what is it that distinguishes her from all the other ladies in the streets?" He was glaring into my eyes like we were on a romantic date, I was grateful for the darkness. The light that was in the room wasn't so bright, I was grateful about that. I couldn't imagine myself sitting next to my fellow man in broad daylight exchanging creepy stares as this.
"I don't know what it is that attracted me to her but I know it's either her or no one else. At first, I loved her slender nature, I felt pity for her, I admired her facial beauty, I couldn't help but envision a future with her. But getting closer to her, I have to admit... It's not about any of these. She's just special to me. She has a spot in my heart and I can't bring myself to stop loving her no matter how hard I try."
He nodded. "I understand." He gave me a wide grin. "It's fine, man. You'll find peace and true love again. I believe that whatsoever it is that attracted you to her is in another lady. She isn't the only female in the whole world with characteristics as those you listed. So I suggest that you take your time to heal and then move on. You'll find true love again, I assure you. I have been where you are right now and I know how you feel. But I'm happily married..." He paused when he said that and gasped as if he had just recollected his thoughts. He turned again to look at me. "Listen man, I'm married." He knew it was wrong for him to get married without telling me, so he had to apologize the moment he realized that he said that. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about this earlier, it happened a few days ago. It's a contract marriage." He stared away while speaking. "I haven't known her for so long but we are happy together. My point is that you too will find someone who will spend the rest of her life with you" he stopped talking when he saw the waitress coming. I could see his mouth watering when he smelt the barbecue. "Oh my! That smells so good." He was literally salivating. The waitress flashed him a smile.
After she had served us both, she ambled to the next table waiting for her. "Did you get me brother?" He continued as soon as she was out of sight.
"Yes, I did. Thanks for bringing me out here, I appreciate. I don't know what I would be doing back at home if not for for you. You are a friend and a brother." I corked the stout and poured some of it into the glass cup that was provided. "I guess I really needed this, after all." I said with a sigh of relief, falling back on the chair that I sat to enjoy the calmness that the drink brought.
We stayed there till it was well past midnight. When I realized what the time was, I began to freak out again. "Do you think we can make it back by this time, considering how unsafe the city is?"
He smiled at my naive state. "This city is not as bad as you assume. I mean if it's that bad, you wouldn't be able to be out here by this time. We'll go back if you want us to. If you don't, that's fine. There's a little motel behind this bar that we can spend the night at. Quit freaking out, enjoy yourself bro. You deserve it."
He was right. I took another mouthful of the drink. It was my third bottle and I didn't feel in the least tipsy. I just wanted to let go of all my worries.
"Keddy." He called me when he noticed that I was almost dozing. I was beginning to feel really light headed, it wasn't safe for me to keep drinking.
"Yh, man?" I snapped my eyes open and responded.
"There's one last part of the plan tonight, and I know that you'll love it. Come with me to the motel, I have something to show you."
I staggered a little bit while we walked but I still had a clear vision for someone who just took three bottles of alcohol. I was wondering what the surprise could be, really excited and hoped it would help me heal.
If only I knew be had carefully planned my doom.
If only I knew he had kept a lady in that motel.
