Chapter sixty Four
"I'm listening baby, what's up?" He was so excited to hear my voice, and eager to hear what it was that I had to tell him. My heartbeat increased, I was getting nervous. "I... I..." I was no stammerer, but I just couldn't find the right words to break the news to him. Seconds passed, but I was still unable to say a word.
I turned to look at the man who kidnapped me, and he was obviously not joking with his threats. Swallowing a hard lump, I cleaned the sweat from my forehead with my elbow. "I got married, Keddy." I paused, as if waiting for him to react. There was dead silence from his own end. He said nothing, I couldn't even hear him breath.
From behind me, the man who had me in his custody whispered... "Keep going."
I nodded. I was still looking for words, not knowing how best to break the news to him. "Listen, Keddy. You have to move on." I took a few seconds to think of what I would say next, after which I spoke on. "It may not sound like the best thing for you, but I want you to move on." I took another pause and listened for a response, none came. It was still the uncomfortable silence that lingered. "Keddy, forget about me. Find a good woman, get a job, go to another city, whatever! I really do not care. All that I want is for you to forget about me."
I waited. For him to break the silence. Maybe with a whimper, or a giggle, whatever it was going to be. All I wanted was a response. "Oh, dear." He started, after a light scoff. "What sort of prank is this?" A roar of laughter followed. "I know you can be very crazy, but this wasn't funny. For a moment, you scared me. But then, I know it's impossible for you to say stuff like this to me."
He gave a sigh of relief. "So, baby... Where have you been?" He didn't believe a word I said, he thought I was trying to prank him. "How's your friend who is I'll, and how is Nancy?" He was asking more questions, but I wasn't allowed to answer. My new boss didn't let me, he threatened to starve me if I spoke a word.
Instead, he took the phone from my hand. "Good day!" His voice sounded as hoarse as it did, the first day that I heard him speak.
"Hello." I heard Keddy respond to him. The phone was still on loud speaker. "Who are you, and why do you have my girl's phone?" He was beginning to sound like he was about to threaten him. Keddy was a really jealous dude. Keddy waited for a response, but none came. "Who the fuck are you, bro? Give that phone back!"
I wished I could see Keddy and beg him to sound more polite. "I am her husband." He spoke with more emphasis on the word husband. Waiting for Keddy's reaction, but getting none... He continued speaking. "I do not want you to call this number back, ever! She's married now, please respect that. I will block you, and let it stay that way. Do you understand?"
Keddy started speaking, but the call was ended before he was done. He wasn't able to state his points clearly, but I did hear him say that if this was no prank, that he would find a way to save me.
The last thing Keddy would ever be involved in is a fight. He hates violence so much, and abhors Mafias. I know that so well, I least expected him to show up here. Even if he did, he lack muscular strength to do anything.
Except he was going to come with backup.
"Now that he's out of the way, finish up with the laundry and join me in the kitchen. You deserve lunch." I was really angered at him, but I dared not show it.
Not even my facial expressions.
I nodded, and turned to face the machine.
"Next time, you'll have to hand wash those clothes. Why the fuck would you stain my clothings and beddings?" He sighed in irritation, and then he walked out of the room. Leaving me to my thoughts.
Tears were beginning to choke me. I couldn't imagine how Keddy was feeling right now. He was probably somewhere, hurting so badly.
He was probably having suicidal thoughts?
Did he trust me enough to believe that I would never intentionally get married?
He ought to be able to figure out that this was a set up.
Was he really going to try saving me from the claws of this masked demon?
That was a tough question to answer. Especially because he didn't believe in violence.
Either way, I knew that I still genuinely loved Keddy. And I believed that he loved me too.
Fate may be twisted and jinxed at the moment, but nobody dares to stand in the way of true love. So I heard.
My lips parted In a grin. I was lost in infatuations of Keddy's good looks, the calm voice that I had just heard, the reassuring smile he used to flash me when things went wrong, I would never trade all of that for anything.
There had to be a way out.
The clothings were clean, and I gathered them to the bedroom.
I tossed them on the bed, and headed for the kitchen.
I wasn't so sure of the path to the kitchen, but I knew that I would find my way to it.
"Camilla, did you fold the clothes?" He asked, when he saw me at the door that led to the kitchen. He was eating when I walked in.
"No, not yet." I was really hungry, and looking at the food on the table made me want to sit down and start eating.
"Go and do that before eating. meanwhile, I'm still going to kill that guy. "
