CHAPTER 73

EPILOGUE
*Olivia's POV*
I sobbed over his still body, feeling a part of me dying. He couldn't be dead. He just couldn't. I wrapped my arms around him, praying to anyone who cared to listen.
"Please don't take him away from me. I just got him back. I wouldn't let you take him away from me." I buried my nose in his chest, breathing in his scent.
I felt something brush my cheek and I lifted my head. A faerie was smiling at me, his eyes friendly. "You must be the mate." I curled my body over Julian's protectively, narrowing my eyes at the intruder.
The faerie smiled, shaking his head. His hair fluttered out like water behind him. "I am here to help you, Luna. I saw everything that happened. It went surprisingly well."
I stared at him, pulling Julian closer to my chest. "What are you saying?" "I saw everything that could have happened. The different possibilities. This path was surprisingly fortunate."
He looked at me and the look on his eyes made me shiver. "Do you wish to know what could have happened? You look curious." I shook my head, watching his hair. It didn't seem natural.
"Where did you meet Julian?" "In a cave. I only told him what he needed to know." He moved closer, his palms glittering gold. I instinctively shifted his body away, narrowing my eyes at him.
"Don't be alarmed. I am only making him better. I wish to heal him." Something in his voice made me trust him and I released my hold on Julian's body.
My wolf was whining around in my head, moving restlessly as the faerie placed his hands on Julian's chest.
My mate's entire body glowed gold and when it cleared, his eyes were opened. He started coughing, sitting up. I threw my hands around his neck, pushing him to the ground.
My laughter bubbled out of me, and I could feel the tears that had been on the brink of spilling finally running down my face.
Julian was laughing too, his fingers running all over my body. "What..How?" I lifted my head to look for the faerie, but he was gone.
I looked back into Julian's eyes, shaking my head. "I don't know. He was...He just came and left."
Julian wrapped his hand around me, pulling me in closer. I buried my face in his neck, closing my eyes.
It seemed like such a long time ago, but it was only a few days. I smiled as I remembered. I carefully placed the firewood in the fireplace, poking it with a stick.
A lot had happened after that. Niamh and Holden had come to find us in the middle of the battlefield and had promptly taken us back to base.
The tree had been destroyed, and I knew it was truly gone because I didn't feel the presence of Alexander Firadus in me again. I felt lighter. I felt more free. I didn't feel that hanging presence over my head again.
Her Holiness had come to visit us, stunning us with her presence. I smiled into the fire as I remembered how she had come.
Julian and I were still recovering, and we were with the warriors in the training pit. We were talking about how we wanted to help other clans build and reestablish their bases when all the warriors suddenly collapsed.
In the middle of them, stood a woman with the most bright aura I have ever seen. Her aura was so bright we couldn't see her face. She had walked up to us, and in that moment I swore she was smiling.
"You have done well, young ones. You can rest now. You have succeeded in doing that which you seek."
She had laid a hand on our heads, smiling softly. "Everything has been settled. You can now live in peace."
We had collapsed then and when we woke up, everything we lost was restored. It would seem the magic went all across the land, because lands were restored in the blink of an eye.
We held a general funeral for all the warriors who had fallen. It was a day I didn't like to remember, because the air was thick with grief.
The grief was so thick even families that hadn't lost any wolf were crying. I shook my head, clearing my head.
Leo's body was buried among them, and it was because Julian insisted we give his brother a proper burial.
Everyone else, myself included, wanted to burn his body or better yet, leave it rot. But family is family.
Jane, who had shown no indication of how she felt about the entire issue, still cried when his body was lowered to the ground.
Julian had wanted to burn the witch's body, but we couldn't find it. We did find a necklace made of bone where her body once was, so we burned that instead.
I smiled softly as I inched closer to the fire. Julian had brought me to his cabin in the woods for a vacation. We left any responsibilities to Holden and Niamh.
Julian didn't say it out loud, but I could tell he was planning to step down from being an alpha and had everything over to Holden.
I heard the door open and I smiled. I heard his footsteps and I turned around just as he walked into the room. His eyes lit up when he saw me and he came closer to scoop me off the floor.
We still hadn't said anything about Vanessa or the way he had left me, but I could wait. He had forgiven me and I had forgiven him. What mattered to me was that were in each other's arms.
My wolf sighed with happiness and I snuggled closer into his chest. We still hadn't slept together since everything had died down and my wolf was aching for his.
But I pulled away and smiled at him. "I missed you." He dropped the bag he held over his shoulder, bending down to untie it. "Sorry. The rabbit was being pretentious. It was nothing I couldn't handle tho."
