Chapter hundred and forty five
Oliver
I clenched my phone tightly, almost cracking the screen as I stared at the picture Ron had sent me.
The picture was of Dallas and Tabitha tied up and badly bruised. They seem to barely be hanging on. The thoughts made my guts churn.
I turned to Jenna, my voice low and menacing.
“Whatever you want to do, now would be the right time.” I flashed her the phone screen but she didn't even blink.
She nodded and turned her face back to the map on the coffee table. She had provided us with the layout of the Mirage. We were planning on how to break in and how many men to take with us.
“I'm taking my car. Park your van under the tree twenty yards away. It's in the area camera's blind spot.” She explained.
She sounded confident as we went over the plan again, but I caught sight of her subtly wiping her hands on her pants. She was nervous and rightfully so.
We were planning to break into one of the most top secret location and kill the leader of the Brothers. So many things could go wrong. The chances of us coming out of that building alive is very low and that's if Jenna doesn't betray us.
I didn't trust her one bit. But I was running out of options and time. If she ended up betraying us, I would shoot her point-blank on the spot.
“Are we all just okay with the fact that she's an assassin now?” Ethan asked, disbelief evident in his voice.
To be honest, I wasn't expecting it. Despite her stony personality, she doesn't have a hard edge like most criminals. Not to mention, she was a supermodel. That's the most unlikely career for an assassin.
But I guess her cover worked really well. I suspected she knew who her father truly was since when was helping him with his plan, but I didn't suspect she might be a Brother.
“For the last time, blond one, being a Brother doesn't make me an assassin.” She snapped at him, clearly pissed at Ethan's repeated question.
“Then what do you do for them? Aren't you like the heir since your father is the leader?” Ethan asked.
“It doesn't work like that. Leadership is earned not given. And what I do for the Brothers is none of your business. Now, are we doing this or what?” She rubbed her temple gently and clutched her purse closer to herself.
She had done that alot in the past hour. It was as if she was stopping herself from taking something out of her purse.
Ethan didn't seem to notice her uneasiness or he simply didn't care.
“So you don't kill people then?”
“If you must know, I know how to make extremely chatty people disappear, especially blond ones.” She glared at Ethan, probably thinking it would scare him.
My cousin glared right back. That seem to frustrate her as she huffed and looked away. She didn't know Ethan thrived on violence.
“You said leadership is earned. How's that?” Xavier asked.
He'd barely said much ever since the conversation started, but he had certainly been keeping eyes on everything.
“If you're insinuating that I want to kill my father to earn my seat as the leader then you're sorely mistaken.” She replied.
“Is that what you want?” I asked.
“No.”
*Then why?”
“I have my reasons and I'm not sharing it with any of you.” She was clearly getting annoyed by the questioning.
“I think you have to. This entire operation depends on you. And I don't trust you at all. You might be mad at your father and want him dead, but he's still your father. You could change your mind any minute and turn on us. So yeah, you should definitely tell us why.”
I was pissed that she was acting secretive when we have no choice but to trust her blindly.
She sucked in a breath and ground her teeth together.
“If a leader is killed, the mantle of leadership automatically goes to the person who killed him, that's if the killer is a Brother. But if the leader dies a natural death or is killed by a non Brother, there is fight over who the next leadership goes to and a lot of killings are involved.” She said.
“And that's what you want?” Ethan asked.
“What I want is to take advantage of the chaos and leave the Brothers. The new leader would have a lot in his hands than worry about a Lost Brother.”
She directed her gaze at me and I immediately understood what she was referring to.
That was how my father left the Brothers too.
“And you're going to sacrifice your father for your freedom?” Ethan asked again.
“You might think me heartless, but I have my own reason for wanting my father dead. And I'm not sharing them with any of you.” She said dismissively.
We all exchanged looks but didn't say anything else. I wondered what Ron did to her that made her this resolved to kill him. But I didn't push.
I had just one priority now. Saving Dallas.

I watched from the van has Jenna entered into the Mirage, her long brown hair swept to the sides to hide her earbuds. The earbuds were almost undetectable, but I could tell she was paranoid. She managed to hide it well though.
Aside from the visible tension emitting from her body, she looked like her usual supermodel self. And that was exactly the plan.
She would drop by the Mirage and act like it was a casual meeting, then she would ask to see where Dallas is being kept. The visit wouldn't be unusual as Ron was planning our engagement anyway.
Jenna advised it was better this way since there were many underground rooms there. It would save us time and also lower our risk of getting caught.
It would be a foolproof plan, if we weren't all holding out breath and waiting for her to turn on us. She hadn't given any signs of backing out but it could still happen.
“I'm in. Tell the computer guy to activate the camera in the brooch.” Jenna said through the earbuds.
“I have a name, you know. Use it.” Ethan huffed in annoyance.
Out of the three of us, he was the least thrilled about this plan, but he was helping us anyway. He had planted a camera in the brooch Jenna currently had pinned to her shirt. Ethan didn't like her and he doesn't hide it.
The camera feed went live just as Jenna stepped out of the elevator and rang the doorbell.
Ron opened up after a few seconds and frowned. He clearly wasn't expecting her. Seeing his face brought back the rage I'd buried hours ago to focus on the plan. Now that he's so close to me, I wanted to fucking kill him.
“Why are you here?” Ron asked. I could see his displeasure clearly on the screen.
“I came to see you about ‘the girl’, Father.” Jenna said firmly. If she was nervous, she didn't make it obvious in her voice.
Ron's lips pressed together but he gave her a small nod.
“Where's mother?” Jenna asked, but all of us already knew the answer.
Jenna didn't want her mother caught in the crossfire so she had called her out of the house hours before we arrive. Juliana was safely at the manor with my mother.
I'd filled my mother in with the vaguest details, and I knew definitely that she would pester me for more if we survive this. I didn't want her jumping into trouble thinking she could save me.
“She had to go to Regina's for preparation of your engagement.” Ron said. “What do you want with Dallas?”
“To kill her by myself.” Jenna sputtered, slightly stumbling on her words.
My guts tightened despite knowing she didn't mean it. It was what we agreed on for her to say. It was convincing enough that Ron would take her to where Dallas was.
Ron's answering smirk was proof that it worked. He really wanted his daughter to be a heartless monster.
“If I'm going to marry her boyfriend, I don't want any issue in the future and I would like to eliminate any nuisance now.” Jenna said more confidently this time.
“Does that mean your obsession over her is done then?” Ron asked.
Obsession over Dallas? She didn't mention anything like that. What does it mean?
“It was merely a passing interest.” Jenna said, swallowing audibly.
“Alright then. Follow me.” Ron nodded and turned around.
They walked to a corner in the house and Ron pushed slightly against the wall. It parted, revealing a small door. The door led to a set of staircases that went down and down. It was dark so we could barely see anything except Ron's back.
They finally got to a place that looks like a basement but also a prison, judging by the metal doors lining the hallway. They walked down a long corridor before finally stopping in front of a large double doors.
Jenna leaned up slightly so we could read the inscription on the door. “BR-C 2”.
Xavier immediately brought out the map and traced the cell on it.
“There's an exit close to the sewer grates. We have to crawl through the sewer to avoid the cameras then take out whoever is guarding the door. Our men has already taken positions around the building.” he said.
I nodded and immediately grabbed my gun. I checked to see my other weapons are stashed exactly where I put them.
“Xavier and I are going in. Ethan, stay in the van.”
“You guys never let me have any fun.” Ethan grumbled.
“Someone needs to get the van ready so we can leave early.” Xavier said.
Xavier and I were about to step out when something caught my eye in the feed.
Ron had a gun pointed at Jenna.
