Chapter hundred and fifty three

Oliver

“I can walk. I'm fine now. And I don't have any limp ” Dallas said for the umpteenth time since we stepped out of the car and I carried her.

“I know, but I'm not letting you out of my sight.” I said and held her tightly as I stepped into the house.

She chuckled but didn't protest further.

Dallas was finally discharged today and I couldn't be more excited. It's been four days since the incident at the Mirage but things had only gotten slightly better.

Tabitha had left the hospital yesterday with her family. She managed to come up with a good cover story about getting mugged for her mother and siblings, and thankfully, they bought it. I made sure that she got all the medical attention she could ever need.

I offered my apologies to her that she got caught up in this. I'd offered her extra protection as well and relieved her of her job. She wasn't very excited about it but I didn't want to put her in anymore danger. I made sure to give her enough money to sustain herself till she found another job.

As relieved as I felt about doing right by my now former assistant, my other problem still loomed over me like a storm.

Juliana was getting restless. She hadn't heard from her husband or daughter in four days. She was mostly worried about Jenna. The shooting at the Mirage hadn't made it to the news. Maybe because the area belonged to the Brothers and they basically have the press in their pocket.

I was thankful for the small reprieve because that meant Juliana didn't know of her husband's death. Yet. Jenna wasn't awake either which made everything more complicated. I didn't know how much her mother knew of the Brothers and I have no idea what to tell her.

The doctor had told us she was out of danger and that she would soon wake up. It's been four days but she's still unconscious.

My mum had insisted on seeing me but I kept turning her down. Ethan managed to calm her down by telling her I was taking care of a problem at work. I didn't believe she bought it, but she became less persistent.

I was going to deal with all that later. One problem at a time. Right now, all I want to focus on was making sure Dallas was safe.

I got to our room and set Dallas gently on the bed.

“Finally, an actual bed with no smell of medicine surrounding me.” She said and adjusted her sitting position.

I smiled and shook my head.
“You still have to take your medicine. You're not very well yet.” I said.

“Really? Do I have to?” She pouted her lips.

“Yes, young lady. You're not talking your way out of it. You have to get better soon.”

“I can think of something that would make me feel better instantly.” She lowered her eyelids slightly and gave me a smile that I know too well.

My smile grew wider and I inched closer towards her. It seems she was going to leap on me for a second, and honestly, I wouldn't have been able to refuse her.

“You're hurt, Little Monkey. I'll make sure to satisfy that little cunt of yours later.” I said but I didn't pull back.

She pulled closer to me and rose to her knees on the bed. She circled her arms around my neck.

“Why not now?” She said, her voice low and sultry.

“Because I can't fuck you the way I want to right now without hurting you. And the last thing I want is to cause you more pain.”

My gaze snapped back to the several bruises on her face. They weren't as red as the day we found her, but they were still there. They were a glaring reminder of how I failed to protect her.

Dallas seem to sense the shift in my mood as she tilted my head up so I was looking her in the eyes. Concern shone in her eyes for me.

“You didn't hurt me, Oliver. Ron did. And he's dead.”

I saw her swallow down at the remainder of what that meant for Jenna. After she broke down at the hospital two days ago, she had avoided talking about it, and I hadn't brought it up.

“You've never caused me any pain, Oliver. And I know you will never hurt me.” She said softly.

I brought my hand to her hair and ran my fingers through it, my eyes still on her.

“I don't deserve you.” I muttered. “But I'm going to keep you anyway.”

She smiled widely.
“Well, that's good. Because I don't plan on letting you go either, Mr Kang.”

She leaned in and placed a soft kiss on my lips, her arms tightening around me. My hands went to the small of her back and I pulled her closer to me to deepening the kiss.

A low moan escaped her lips going straight to my cock. Gods, I've missed her. The sound was my undoing. I pushed her slightly so her back hit the mattress. I was about to climb on top when I noticed the sight twitch of pain on her face that she tried to hide.

Guilt washed over me and I pulled away. She had just escaped torture and the first thing on my mind was to fuck her.

“Shit, I'm so sorry. Are you okay?” I sat on the bed beside her, concern replacing the lust in me.

“I'm fine.” She said, forcing a smile on.

“No, you're not.” I shook my head and rose from the bed. “Get some rest. We'll pick this up later.”

“But I'm really fine–” I arched an eyebrow, cutting her off mid sentence.

She furrowed her brows and glared at me. I fought a chuckle at her expression. I draped the duvet over her body. She opened her mouth to say something but stopped when she saw the look on my face.

“Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. I'll give you everything you want once you're fully healed.” I placed a kiss on her forehead. That seem to calm her down a bit as she nodded, but I could still see the desire in her eyes. I needed to leave the room or I would definitely go back on my words if she keeps looking at me like that.

Someone knocked on the door then.

“Come in.” I said.

The door pushed open and Heather poked her head in. The door opened wider to reveal Lisa standing beside her with a tray in hand.

Dallas chuckled loudly.
“At this point, I'm really going to combust from eating too much.” She said.

“Well, that's certainly a great way to pass on to the afterlife.” Lisa said.

“True.” Heather said and all three of them laughed.

I stepped out of the room, giving them space. But I could still hear their laughter as I walked away from the door.

I was able to separate Dallas's laughter from the rest. And it was the best skindive ever heard in a while. I made a silent vow to never let anything or anyone take that sound from her ever again.

I was going to protect her with everything I have. And this time, I won't fail.
