Chapter ninety nine

Dallas

When it comes to planning dates, Oliver never cease to amuse me each time. Every dates, every surprise, every gifts, has always been greater than the previous one.

Most times it's not about the price of the gift or the luxury behind the dates, but the extreme thoughts he put into it. It's one of the many reasons I love him so much.

But this, this is something I never would have anticipated. My heart swelled as I took in the scene before me.

“A dinner on the rooftop?” I exclaimed, my mouth hung open.

He'd booked a local diner I had once told him about and arranged a rooftop dinner. Moondust Diner was one of the places my mum and I go regularly. I hadn't eaten there ever since I got back to Korea due to his costly their food was. I vaguely remembered telling Oliver about it when we passed the diner a few months back.

And he'd went ahead to plan a date af the diner. It wasn't a big candlelight dinner with rose petals decorating the floor. It was casual and low-key.

I blinked back the tears that gathered at the corner of my eyes as the thoughtfulness behind the gesture hit me. I didn't even realize when he prepared all these. We had been at the Jangs all day.

“Do you like it?” He asked.

I broke out of my trance, the words falling out of my mouth before I could think twice about them.

“Like it? I love it.”

I finally tore my gaze away from the setting in front of me and turned to him, a bright smile on my face.

“It's perfect. Thank you.”

His facial features eased into a smile. He took a few steps closer to me and wrapped his arm around my waist. He pulled me closer and placed a small kiss on my lips. I darted my tongue out, deepening the kiss, but he broke free.

“If we keep this on, you'll be the next meal, not the food on the table.” He groaned but he didn't pull away from me totally.

“Can't say I don't like the sound of that.” I drew my head back, a smirk tugging at the corner of my lips.

“Then it'd be a shame that I won't get to try the food here. Heard their food is really nice and they have a pretty long waiting list.” He groaned and finally took a step back.

He placed a hand on the small of my back and guarded me to the table at the center. That was when I finally noticed the waitress standing a few feet away.

I bit my lower lip, feeling the blush crept on my cheeks. She definitely saw us making out even though she didn't act like it.

Oliver's face was the picture of indifference. He didn't seem to care that the waitress witnessed us making out just seconds ago. He pulled out a chair for me like the perfect gentleman.

Dinner date on a rooftop with the man I love. Good food. Spending quality time together. It was everything I've ever dreamed of and more.

“When did you prepare all these? We weren't home all day.” I asked once we both sat down.

I flipped through the menu out of habit. I already knew what I was going to order. I've been placing the same order for years.

“Well, it was supposed to be a failsafe. I wanted us to have today to ourselves and do everything you wanted, but Incase anything got in our way or we ended up not doing anything during the day, we'd have the night to ourselves. I wasn't going to let anything get in the way of us spending time together today.” He said as he picked up the menu and scanned through it.

My heart melted at the thoughtfulness behind his gesture. He'd plan this whole day just to spend time with me. It was the sweetest thing ever.

I decided to push back all thoughts about everything that happened during the day. Jenna's words. Regina's subtle words. The impending wedding. I pushed everything back. None of it mattered now. The only thing that mattered was that he was here with me. He'd chosen me. That's all that count.

“And you couldn't warn me to dress for the occasion?” I smiled at him.

I was in a very casual wear, a short floral gown, my hair was pulled into a ponytail. The same outfit I wore to the Jangs house. We had come here straight from thefe.

While Oliver was in his usual suit and tie. He'd ditched the carefree Oliver look from this morning before we left for Jenna's house. He was back to being the business like Oliver, though his expression was slightly loosened it was when we left Ron Jang’s penthouse.

“You'll always look beautiful in everything, little monkey.”

I turned my face away to hide the blush staining my cheeks, and buried my face in the menu. We placed our orders and the waitress left to get them.

I took the opportunity and dragged my gaze around, taking in every detail of the diner. I've never been to the rooftop before. Getting a seat was quite hard enough, and the rooftop tables are usually the first to be filled up with people who made reservations months ago. The diner was that popular.

The view of this city from up here was very beautiful. City lights decorated the streets as people walked around going about their business.

I dragged my gaze around, enjoying the scenario. The gentle breeze up here, the distant sound of music, the people going about their businesses, I was lost in the scenery.

“This is so beautiful.”

I hadn't realized I said the words out loud until I heard Oliver say,

“It is. Very beautiful.”

I finally tore my gaze away to see Oliver lean back into his chair, his eyes on me. He had a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

I bit my lips to stop myself from blushing.

“Stop staring at me like that.” I flushed hard, but I tried to feign indifference. I failed terribly.

“Like how?” He asked, a cocky grin on his face.

“You know how.” I was pretty sure my face would be so red with how hard I was blushing.

“No, I don't.” He leaned forward. “Why don't you tell me how I'm staring at you?”

I sighed and shook my head.
“Like you'd cross the distance between us in two seconds.” I blurted out and instantly wished I could take it back when I saw the grin on his face widened.

“Pretty sure that's not a bad thing.” He shrugged.

“There are people around.” I said in a hushed tone.

“What people?” He arched an eyebrow.

I darted my gaze around and it dawned on me that we were the only one on the rooftop. The realization dawned on me. The cocky smile on his face confirmed my thoughts.

“You booked the whole diner?” I asked, my eyes wide opened.

I didn't know why it took me that long to realize it. The diner was usually bursting with people, but I haven't seen a single customer since we set foot in here.

He simply shrugged.
“I couldn't let anyone disturb our date.”

If my heart swelled any further than this, they'd definitely burst. He was being so very thoughtful and it was driving me to the verge of tears. Especially when I know how much trouble it must have cost him to plan everything within such short notice.

“Careful with the sweet gestures, Mr Kang. I might start to see you as a sweet person." I joked.

He let out a chuckle.
“Should I not mention what I have planned after dinner?”

I was about to ask what he had planned when the waitress returned with our food. We started eating and drifted into another conversation. It was the perfect night.
