CHAPTER FORTY NINE

DALLAS

“You did what?!” Lisa squealed, her eyes glistening with excitement.

The hair stylist flinched slightly at Lisa's squeal. I threw the woman an apologetic look.

“Keep it down, Lis.” I hushed.

We were getting ready for the wedding, but my best friend wouldn't stop squealing about my ‘one night of fun’ - her words.

Lisa had insisted I tell her everything that happened last night.

According to Ari, Oliver basically walked up to them and told them I'd be leaving with him. He didn't give much explanation, but Ari was persistent. He had no choice but to answer all her questions.

My best friend, on the other hand, was too drunk to notice I was being shipped away. She gave her consent immediately.

What if Oliver had been a kidnapper? I'd probably be halfway across the world by now, prepping to be sold to human traffickers.

“I'm sorry, but I can't contain myself. It's not every day I hear that my best friend kissed the hottest man in the whole world. It's worth squealing over.” She giggled.

I was grateful Lisa didn't mention Oliver's name. I didn't want to imagine what would happen if anyone got their hands on that piece of information. Oliver has a big reputation in Korea and America so it would definitely result to a scandal. I couldn't afford that.

The hair stylist, however, made a slight crunch of her nose. Lisa was getting married and she was still calling other men ‘hot’ on her wedding day. That was so Lisa.

“It was just a kiss, don't make a big deal of it.”

I didn't tell the Lisa that things escalated and we did more than just kissing. She wouldn't let me hear the end of it.

Also, I didn't want to think about it. I didn't know even know what to think about.

After he refused to have sex with me and walked into the bathroom, I waited for him to come out, but I ended up falling asleep. I woke up to an empty hotel room. He didn't leave notes or anything that could inform me of his whereabouts.

I decided to shrug it off even though it hurt a bit. But then, room service showed up with a set of new clothes, shoes, and… underwear?

Strangely, it hadn’t bothered me much that he changed my clothes. But it was slightly embarrassing that he bought me under wears. Although the anger I felt because of his absence overshadowed the embarrassment but it was still there. No girl would want her boss buying her panties.

I appreciated his gestures despite that I was mad at him. And I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Heat crept on my cheek as I remembered he stripped me naked just a couple of hours back.

But the nice gesture didn't reduce the rage I felt when he abandoned me. Technically, an empty hotel room didn’t mean abandonment. Maybe he left to attend to something important.

Also, I knew better than to assume our relationship would evolve to something more after one night of ‘almost shagging’, but he could have at least stayed till I woke up.

“Hello! It is a pretty big deal.” Lisa scoffed.

I sighed. There was no convincing her otherwise, so I gave up.

The hair stylist stepped out of the dressing room for a while and Lisa scooted closer to me.

“First, it's kissing. Next time, you'd be fucking each other into oblivion and popping cute babies.” She teased.

“Nah, not happening.” I laughed.

But the idea of actually birthing a child for Oliver crossed my mind. His genes would definitely produce good-looking spawns. I shook the thought away as fast as it came. I shouldn't wander that far.

“But think about it. You’re gorgeous as hell, and he is so friggin’ hot. Your kids would be the epitome of beauty.” she said, a dreamy look in her eye.

“I really don’t understand why we’re talking about my kids when you’re the one getting married. I don’t even have a boyfriend.”

“Yet.” she added with a smile “and I already visualized how the children Dae-ho and I have would look like. But I really hope they get my blue eyes. I’ve been told I have extremely pretty eyes.”

A smile tugged at the corner of my lips as I stared at her dreamy expression. My best friend deserves all the happiness in the world after everything she’s been through, and I want her to have it.

“But your kids would look so cute with your striking green eyes.”

I groaned.

“Dear Lord! I did not sign up for this when I asked for a best friend.” I said loudly and shook my head.

Lisa laughed.

“But you love me anyway.” She nudged me slightly.

“Sadly, I do. Even if you drive me crazy most of the times.” I chuckled.

“Aw, that's what best friends are for. To drive you nuts.”

“I don't drive you nuts. And didn't you say best friends are there to encourage bad behavior? You’re switching roles now?”

“A best friend can be both. Example, me. You’re welcome, darling.” she patted my back and we both laughed.

“How are you now?” I asked when the laughter died down.

We both understood I was talking about her nervous breakdown at the bachelorette the previous night.

I hadn’t had a chance to speak with her privately since I arrived. We’ve been surrounded by guests, make-up artists, hairstylists, and other people.

She flashed me a genuine smile.

“You don’t have to worry about me. I’m fine now. I spoke to someone yesterday and he really helped.” her smile widened as if she was recollecting a memory.

My brows furrowed at the mention of the stranger and my best friend’s current reaction.

“He?” I asked.

“Uhm…yeah. Just a guy I met at the club last night.” she sighed “sometimes talking to strangers is just what you need.”

I nodded, agreeing with her.

“Anyway, I’m fine now. And I can’t wait to tie the knot.”

Her voice sounded more confident this time. I was happy for her.

I hugged her tight, squeezing her.

“You’ll make a great bride. I’m so happy for you.”

We hugged each other for a while, silently comforting each other.

“Okay, that’s enough. I don’t want to ruin my make-up.”

We shared a laugh and let go of each other. Ari walked in, her brows slightly creased.

“There is someone waiting at the balcony for you, Dallas.”

My brows furrowed.

"Who is that?"

“Your grumpy boss.” she shrugged

Oliver is here?!
