A monster
Adrian POV.
I looked down, and I realized that what he said was right. I swallowed a deep breath as I managed to gather myself and ran towards the houses that were burnt by my fire. My heart was pounding so fast as I raced with the little strength left in me. I felt my heart pounding so fast and couldn't help but wonder if Zakuski was the one responsible for the fire. I recalled the threat he had made before he had left.
When we eventually reached the village, I saw that many people were scampering for their lives. A young woman had a child at her back as she fled, but she was already surrounded by the fire. I rushed towards her and tried helping her. When she saw me, a look of horror was in her eyes as she started moving backwards. "You monster, you caused all this. You are the reason our only village is on fire and all the people in my family are dead, all because of you."
I felt my heart racing frantically at the thought of what she said. I don't know why it hurts when people see me as a monster, but I won't blame them.
"Please just follow me; I won't harm you."
"I'd rather die than let you touch me." She said as she turned towards the fire and leaped forward, I swallowed hard as I jumped into the fire and managed to bring her out while making sure that she was safe. To my utter bewilderment, I felt pain as the fire burned my skin. I am a dragon; I shouldn't have felt pain. It isn't right. I tried crawling out of the fire, but the fire had increased and surrounded me. The woman I managed to help let out a laugh that made me furrow my brows; it was wicked and heartbreaking. Before I could say a word, she disappeared into thin air. I let out a cry of pain until I blacked out, letting myself be burned by my flames.
"I never knew that capturing you would be so easy, Adrian." I heard a familiar voice, and I felt a sharp pain in my head. I managed to open my eyes, only to find myself still in the mountain while Zack placed his index finger on my head.
"I don't understand; you mean everything that happened was just an illusion?" I asked, looking confused.
"Yes, and it made things easier for me and for anyone around me, so now I can have Garcia to myself, and no one can stop me, not even you, Adrian."
"You are a coward who left her when she needed you the most, and now you are back in her life, like nothing ever happened." I let out a scream; my fist was clenched. I tried standing up only to realize I was tied to my heavy chains. The chains weakened me, which only explains why I'm unable to stand on my feet despite having the strong urge to put Zakuski in place.
I turned to look at Zack. There was a clear look of disappointment on my face. "You know what? I thought you were the best among my trusted savants. I never imagined you would be the one to use your powers against me. I'm very disappointed in you."
"And you think I gained your trust because I wanted to be your savant? It's because I wanted to be close enough to you to help bring you down." He replied with no ounce of regret in his voice. I shook my head, not believing what I just heard. Before I knew what was happening, Zakuski, who watched silently, grabbed me by the collar. I have never been so helpless in my life. His gaze was intense as he landed more punches across my face. "I can't wait to make Garcia realize that she's mine alone."
The dragon within me whimpered in pain at the thought of Zakuski ever touching her in the first place because Garcia was meant only for me. But knowing fully well that Garcia still cared about this bastard makes me sick to the bones; I just wish that she could completely forget about him.
I swallowed hard without saying anything else. But I was burning with rage, and so was my dragon. He then let go of me and instructed Zack to kill me, then he turned to leave, and Zack had a sinister smile on his face as he pulled out a sharp dagger.
"This is the only dagger that could kill you, and I will be more than happy to use it on you."
I looked up at him, still wondering what had happened to the innocent man I once knew, and the way he had once been so loyal to me made me confused about whether it was the same person.
He leaned beside me and said, "So you remember when you had brutally killed my parents with no remorse, despite the plea? Yes, that's me, and I swore revenge, even if that's my only purpose in life."
My eyes widened, all the memories seeping in, recalling how long it had been a long time. I can't help but recall how small he was, barely five years old. I could still remember his name as I intently looked into his eyes, "Elliot? And you changed your name to Zack all because of a revenge plot?"
