Chapter Ten: Mere News
Jonah gave it another thought, first he was glad he could spend another day speaking with her, even though whatever they had to say would definitely be disturbing, but he chose to look at the bright side.
“Sure” Jonah said, slightly amused as he ate his food.
The rest of the day was spent in silence, as everybody within the hospital premises had their heart in their hearts, they were frightened by the unknown, whatever happened in the hospital wasn't natural.
They had spent their lives learning a skill to cure the sick, but somehow their intelligence was being played on, there was something or someone within these walls, and with the recent happening, it was going to determine their situation, either they top the charts or it brought about their demise.
On getting home, Amelia prepared a cup of coffee for her and Jonah, before they started on their intensive research.
“So tell me, whatever comes to your mind, because I am as confused as you are”
“I told you about the dream, that's all I know, aside that it's only but a mystery to me” said Jonah, he took a sip from the cup, letting out a long sigh.
She started doing research on her phone concerning supernatural beings related to healing, but it was all fictional, everything about his abilities seemed to have originated from a book, and it was tiring.
Every platform which seemed to have a clue to what she expected from the net happened to be unreachable, it frustrated them.
“During the weekends I will visit my grandma, will you go with me?”
Once again another opportunity to spend time with her, Jonah nodded without hesitation.
“She's a Buddhists, and she might have an idea why your ancestors possess these powers and why yours is happening out of the blue” she said.
Jonah felt hopeful, ans grateful that he was here for him, so he thanked her, as always their session came to an end and he has to leave, Jonah hesitated, he barely said a word after their intensive research, and amelia noticed it, at first she suspected he was cold because of the allein abilities he possessed so she approached him.
“Jonah, you know i will stand with you right?, you don't have to be afraid, for now you can see it as a good thing, a purpose and possibly when we are done, we will finally know what to do, if there's a way out, or if there's a path to follow, you don't have to be scared anymore”
“The nightmares keep getting worse, everyday, it gets a little bit worser, I find it hard to sleep because I would be chased today, and I am not used to it, it's scary and its lonely”
“You know you can stay here?, at least till we finally know what your path is”
Jonah thought about it, it had its peaks, but whatever happened to him wasn't her problem, it was solely his problem, he would be inconveniencing her if something worse happens while he was sleeping so he waved the idea off his mind.
“No, I would be fine, its better I stay at home, I would see you tomorrow,”
Without waiting for her to object to what he had just said, Jonah stood up and was about to take his leave when Amelia obstructed him, her eyes held so much emotion she stared directly into his eyes.
“Before you go I want you to have this”
She removed a necklace laced around her neck then handed it to him.
“It was a gift from my grandma, I want you to have it, maybe it will help with the nightmares”
Jonah's eyes settled on the little necklace on Amelia's palm; it has an emerald pendant, and a black chain; ever since he noticed her in the hospital, he had seen that same necklace around her neck.
He felt undeserving of it, but she persisted, she wore it around his neck then patted his cheeks.
“You will be fine,”
She escorted Jonah out of the building then to the train station.
That very night, to his surprise he had no nightmares, it was the most blissful night ever since he had these powers, and he could not wait to tell Amelia all about it when he finally got to the hospital.
That day he followed the same routine, a faded overall, and slightly dry hair, which he caressed with his hands before he walked out of the house, promising to have a decent haircut before he went to see Amelia's grandma.
On getting to hospital, he noticed there was a meeting held in the board room and he wasn't excluded from the list of workers, so he partook in the meeting .
At the podium stood Doctor Moxley, his face bore worries as he waited for the workers to finally settle down before he gave his speech for the day.
On the other side of the podium sat Amelia and Jonah, just a seat apart as discussed.
‘How was your night?’ a message tripped into his phone, from Amelia, but before he could reply to her text, Doctor Moxley started speaking.
“I would like to inform everyone one you here that the patient was miraculously heard and chosen not to say anything to either a family member or friend, so we are safe at the moment but not for long
“I don't know how or why we are having this weird entity in our midst, but whatever it is must be found and stopped,it must be experimented on so we don't her caught off guard
“I would like everyone to report any suspicious no matter how little it is, or who it might be, I need to know, and I would also like to inform everyone seated that a reward would be tagged to anyone who comes to me with a reasonable evidence, so everyone's a suspect and everything is a clue, but for now I would let you go to attend to your patience, maybe you might find something”
The meeting came to an end, and everyone returned back to their post, aside Jonah and Amelia, Jonah was petrified to the bone.
Everyone who walked past him casted a glance at him, he was sweating and obviously scared.
He was certain if he was caught he would be killed, that was the reason he was unsettled for days, the same reason he ran out of the hospital the day he was stabbed, the same reason he wanted a normal life.
As he walked back to his post, he thought about his life, being the centre of attraction.
“You don’t have to be scared you know?, it only gives you off” Amelia said from behind as she caught up with him, he yelped in shock, instantly tossing the mob stick he had in his hands.
“Hey!, you scared me,” he said.
“Calm down, you will be fine”
Unlike everyone in the hospital, Amelia seemed to be the one who wasn’t affected by the news, she was overly cheerful, and calm compared to anyone in the hospital.
It confused Jonah.
“What’s so funny?” he asked.
“Your reaction, you are jumpy because of a mere news”
“It’s not just mere news, my life might be at stake, if anyone finds out, so I can’t help it, it’s weird that you find it funny”
His eyes constantly glanced over his shoulders, checking for the nearest ear, but they were in the storeroom, no Doctor had any business with the store room.
“Well, I have a plan to stop the search but you have to heal one more person”
“Are you out of your mind?”
“Yes, I am, but listen, I have a Patient who I am close to, you will heal him, and we would strike a deal that he would testify that it was some mystical being and he saw it, with that no one would suspect you or anyone, it will kill the search immediately, what do you think?”
It wasn’t convincing enough, he was at the verge of losing his identity, but Amelia seemed to be certain about this plan of hers”
“What are the odds if everything goes wrong”
“You might get killed— just joking,” she bluffed.
Jonah wasn’t certain, but he proceeded to the ward after more convincing, and promises.
Now both of them stood in the room, the old man seemed to be scared for his life, but Amelia held his hands as Jonah healed his wounds.
He had a failed kidney and sore skin, in a minute his bruises were healed and he was back to being absolutely normal.
“My boy, are you a god?” the man asked Jonah but he remained silent, he was still scared that he might be exposed so Amelia stood up for him.
“He's not, but I want you to keep your own side of the promise, and we would settle you”
The man waved his head in excitement, he had been sick for a year and already accepted his fate, but noticing his flexibility he wasn't going to trade his freedom with money.
“I don't need it, I will do as I promised, but my boy, why don't you help some other people out?, it will make you a lot of money, and look at the bright side, you would do more good in the society”
Jonah thought about it, he waved his head in disapproval. While on the other hand Amelia saw it as a way to do more good.
“We will think about it”
“What?”

Both of them were back home, and Amelia chose to make pancakes, it was the best day of her life. She could already think of the good things she would do with Jonah but he wasn't in line with her vision so she chose to coax him with food.
She prepared pancakes then served him, with a honey spread.
Jonah never liked honey but he didn't resist, he could not tell her he hated it, because of the effort she placed into making it, but soon he took a bite of the pancakes, the moment he tasted it, everything went sound, he blacked out almost immediately.
