Chapter Thirty: Flashback

Few hours after Jonah fell, Amelia woke up to the thudding ache in her head, the earth seemed to act as a magnet, her body constantly slumped back to the floor with each attempt to stand up, after several attempt the finally lets herself lay unmoving, her weary eyes swaying from side to side as she tried to picture the image before her.

The ceiling too happened to be blurry, and she felt nauseous. But there was something missing.

When she could finally see well, she noticed she was in her room, tucked into the sheets of her bed, but somehow she couldn’t remember walking into the house, or getting into that position she found herself, it was very strange.

Her headache was even more, as she thought of any loop holes to recover her memory, but she couldn’t think about everything, the images in her mind were hazy, and unmatched.

Just as she searched the environment in a slight panic, the flickering light from the refrigerator caught her attention, her heart skipped a beat, as she anticipated what must be outside her door, whoever or whatever must be out there might give her an answer to the question she asked herself.

Gradually she leaned down from her bed, her hands supporting her weight so she doesn’t make a sound, she wouldn’t want to cause awareness incase whatever was outside there happened to be a threat.

Whilst drowned in anticipation, she tip toed towards the exit, not making a sound her eyes peaked through the door, the light was still on, and there was no sign of anybody, her door was closed so it was either the person was inside or outside.

She walked even further after minutes of surveillance, the house seemed to be void of anyone, she walked towards the refrigerator and that was when she saw Jonah laying on the floor, with a pool of water beneath him.

“Jonah” she screamed, running towards him, she tugged on his shirt, her fear was boundless, she thought of all the bad things that might have happened to Jonah, feared if he might have been slammed to the floor, her head occasions starred beside her shoulders to make sure no one was going to attack her in her house.

“Jonah please” she begged, she checked his pulse, then confirmed by placing her her head on his chest, his heart was beating fine and there were no sign of struggle, the water pooling beside him was also a confirmation that he must have fallen down, and slammed his head.

She checked his head for sore or any badly open wounds, but there was none which also meant he didn’t fall quickly, he must have stopped himself from falling and landed on the floor gently. ‘He fainted, ’ Amelia asked herself.

Jonah wasn’t the type to just fall, he was a man of great stamina, and ate occasionally to have the strength to go without feeling weak throughout the day… except…

Though she felt pain, she didn’t have any sore, on her body, but she had blood stains on her clothes, which also meant she was the one who must have sustained the injury and Jonah must have healed her.

He drained himself while he tried to heal her. She opened the friend then pulled a bottle of water, opening it she sprinkled a handful on his face as she kicked him while calling his name.

How do one wake a spiritual being?

She had no idea what happened before now and also knowing Jonah she knew involving the police or medical team wasn’t in the list of things to do so she persisted in her attempt to wake him up.

After several attempts to wake him up Jonah finally woke up, but he was still weak and reluctant to say even a word.

“I saw you laying on the floor, how are you feeling, haven’t I told you to rest?” She began with her lectures, but instead Jonah stared at her while she spoke, not uttering a word.

Seeing her active was ecstasy, he could not express how much he felt relieved just seeing her, if she had died, he would not know how to leave with himself.

“Why are you looking at me like that ?” Amelia asked when she noticed Jonah was barely listening to her.

“Jonah, answer my question”

“You” he replied, “you are fine now”

“What?”

“When I saw you laying on the road, I thought you had died, but after I healed you, you didn’t wake up. I was worried,” he concluded, that was all he could say, as he could not tell her the depth of his joy.

“On the road?, why?” Amelia asked.

“When you texted me, that you were in trouble” said Jonah, he tried standing from the floor but Amelia gently pushed him down.

“Rest a little” she said, her brows creased as she tried to remember when she texted him, but she couldn’t connect the dots.

“I didn’t text you Jonah, someone else did”

“Who?”

The question acted as a catalyst, the last time she was with her phone was when she was coming back home, she saw Maxwell, and he tried talking with her, then he attacked her.

“Maxwell” she whispered.

The mention of his name made Jonah clenched his palm in sheer agitation, he stood up from the floor, full of life and anger.

“That bastard I will kill him!”

“Jonah calm down you don't know yet,”

“No, he must be the one, or do you remember anything else?,” he asked Amelia, but she gave no answer, everything was taking form in her mind now, Maxwell was the one behind all this he must have been the one to call Jonah.

‘Asshole’ she muttered beneath her breath, mdge despised him even more, but whatever she felt wasn't as harsh as what Jonah was willing to do to Maxwell she already knew they had an issue before now and knowing Jonah was already battling with the keepers, it would be bad to let him do anything out of his own will.

“You would not touch him and that's a demand, not a request”
