Chapter Fourteen: Like a god

“What do you mean you can't, you just assaulted a man”

“It's fine,” Jonah said in a slow mutter, he walked up to Maxwell, with his hands clasped, he bowed his head.

“I am sorry I tampered with your patient, I was trying to see if I could clean under the bed, doctor Amelia acted as a supervisor, but I won't do that again, I am sorry” Jonah didn't wait for him to utter another word before he walked out of the premises.

He was just happy he wasn't caught, aside that, there was nothing else attached, he hated that Maxwell would treat him like a nobody, but then again, everyone did the same thing to him, they disregarded him every time, so he accepted his fate.

Rather than dwelling on the things that didn't happen, he chose to settle on the fact that he had unlocked a new chakra, he could feel how long a person could leave, he felt in that patient inside.

His eyes dwelled on his palm, he felt like a god, like he could rule the world if he wanted to, it was a surreal ability for a man like him.

He went to the next task, cleaning the muddy vomit from a patient experiencing a fever. He heard the doctor talk about his vitals, but from where he stood he could feel the waves of energy.

It teased his sense, he could feel all the life stream flow through his veins, a slight moan escaped his lips as he moved a little closer.

It was taking hold of him, it was making him a mad man already.

“We need to place her under observation, it might be very serious,”

“It's not,” Jonah chipped in.

His confrontation pulled the attention of the doctors discussing by his side, on noticing who had spoken earlier, he became visible to the doctors.

Disgust flashed on their faces, but soon disappeared as they stared back at their patient like he had not just said something.

With a long sigh, he moved out of the ward, he was beginning to hate his job even more, everywhere in the hospital cried for his attention, they craved his divine healing, but he could not offer it to them because these doctors that happen to know it all will kill them.

Most of them had very little time to leave, and he could tell by the intensity of their energies that they were about to die.

The pain tormented him, his mind was busy and clouded that he didn't notice he was about to run into Maxwell, who was walking down with a fellow doctor, obviously distracted.

“Hey, watch it!” Maxwell yelled, as he pushed Jonah again, this time the bucket of water he held in his hands fell to the floor, and the musty water stained Maxwell coat.

“Damn it!” he slapped Jonah to the floor, but was instantly held by the other doctor.

“What the hell is your problem Maxwell!, do you want to be suspended!” he cautioned.

“He should be the one suspended” he berated even more, Jonah bowed once more.

“I was carried away, I am sorry”

He didn't say anything other than that as he began to clean the water on the floor, Maxwell was dragged away from the premises by the other doctor, as Jonah continued to do his task, he prayed for the day to be over, he just wanted to go back home.

He wanted to see Amelia too, but she was carried away from the upcoming surgery that was supposed to take place, other doctors were preparing for it, and with the little assistant he could render he hoped it was enough to take the patient away from the state she was in.

On the hand was Amelia, she was doing the best she could to stay focused throughout the whole process, but all she could think of was Jonah, the look on his face when he walked out of the ward, she almost implicated him.

She felt mostly guilty because she was the one who pushed him into healing this patient, she felt as though she was taking advantage of him and it made her heart squeeze even more.

Jonah was a good man, he has always done as she said, she had done more harm to him now.

The process of surgery didn't take much time, as everything happened to be a new discovery, the damaged part in her brain was almost healed and it seemed the analysis was wrong, it was as though they were experimenting on a regenerating organism.

Everyone left the ward in awe, and soon they were lost in their various conversations while Amelia was left looking for Jonah.

Maxwell took note of her abstinence, he decided to take advantage of the situation by approaching her.

“Hey, Ammy” he teased in a sly way, pulling her by her chin so she looked at him.

He had a fetish for her eyes, which made him stare intensively, “ lunch?, lets have lunch together i noticed you are stressed” he said.

Amelia wanted to refuse, she thought of every word to use to turn him down, but the only word she wanted to say was ‘jonah’

But Jonah must be agitated, any sane person would be angry with her, if they were placed in the position as she had placed him, so she nodded in response.

Lunch was held outside the hospital, and Amelia chose to have a beer. She wanted to ease her mind off the thought of Jonah but it wasn't working.

She was occasionally zoning out and constantly being snapped back by Maxwell.

“What are you thinking about? Is it the case of the surgery?” Maxwell asked, while trying to spark a conversation between them but she had her eyes glued at the hospital exit, she was always glancing back at the hospital with worries in her eyes.

His heart was boiling now, “Ammy, is anything the problem” he asked again, this time he was trying to pull her chin but she pushed his hands away, before gasping the words that set his entire existence ablaze.

“Jonah”
